View Full Version : Miami, LH's Grammar, name-calling, & milfs
One of XU's biggest yearly rivals is Miami (OH). In my opinion, their program has dropped significantly in the last 3-5 years under Cole and now I see this in today's paper:
http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20081008/SPT0103/310080073/1062/SPT&referrer=NEWSFRONTCAROUSEL
If I were a Miami fan I would not be happy with Cole in this lame duck status. It can't help recruiting one bit to not know who your coach is going to be next year.
Also, since Cole is not long for Miami, who do they look to as a replacement? Would Chris Mack be on their short list?

Would Chris Mack be on their short list?
As a Xavier fan, I hope not. The way recruiting has been going lately, the top players aren't going to teams who have the kind of tourney resume that Xavier, and many other teams, have as much as they used to. I would fear Chris Mack would take away so many potential recruits from Xavier. And it's a reasonable fear. He's an excellent recruiter, and putting him that close to xavier is just scary.
Now after saying that, I do hope Mack gets a head coaching job in the future; just not Miami....or UC, or Wright State, Dayton, etc...

Such a HUGE rival!
I'm glad to see Charlie is getting better though.
Outside of UC and UD, Miami is XU's biggest non conference rival. Sure XU's program is currently much better than Miami's but it was not so long ago that both were about on the same level and Miami did beat XU last year as well as pretty consistently throughout the Prosser years.

Charlie Coles has landed the best recruiting class in Miami history in the 2009 class. I do not think recruiting is suffering.
When was the 2009 class signed? He is now just making it public that he is not sure if 2008-09 will be his last year. That kind of uncertainty is a red flag to any recruit and will certainly not help Miami's recruiting.
Outside of UC and UD, Miami is XU's biggest non conference rival.
UD is a conference rival - it's true, they joined the A-10 a few years back.
I never wrote that UD was a non conference rival. Just that they are a rival.

The 2009 class will sign in November. I'm pretty sure the recruits that signed know the situation a little better than we do. I know Jermaine Henderson recruited the majority of those players and is the likely replacement for Coles. I think Miami will actually be better under Henderson from a recruiting perspective because he is young and will open up Miami's offense a bit.
That's great news for Miami then.

Jermaine Henderson has already been told he is Charlie's replacement. He4 was interim coach last year in Cole's absence and will be the assistant head coach this year. While Charlie feels good now, the stress of a season could kill him. With his history of surgeries, he can't stand many more.
Still, he deserves togo out on his terms. But I'm sure Miami's AD and others will step in if they feel he is endangering his life.:D
Miami has had to deal with Charlie's health for several years now. It is not the most serious problem they have to deal with. (Father Savage forgive me for dangling all over this post.)
Not many seem interested in the basketball team in Oxford. Big school, nothing else to do for students, yet there are always plenty of seats for us when we play up there. I'm not going overboard to say we should draw a full house.
Having to play so many away games is a symptom of that problem. A once proud program in distress.
Mack would be an unlikely candidate for Miami, even if Henderson had not been pre-selected. If like Skip Macks needs head coaching chops to come back to X as head coach when Sean eventually goes to Pitt, he will go to some (warning, look away you M*d M*jor phobics) top program in a "non BCS" league. Siena. Holy Cross.

I never wrote that UD was a non conference rival. Just that they are a rival.
In all fairness, they way the sentence was written inferred that Dayton was a non-conf. rival.
Either way, saying that outside of UC, Miami is the biggest non-conf. rival isn't saying much. There aren't any more. X hasn't played anyone else on a consistent enough basis to develop a rivalry.
Jumpy,
Nothing was implied as you stated it. Also, even if XU struck up a home and home series with say Butler for 10 years, the Miami rivalry would be much bigger.

Not to get in the middle of an LH thread, but I am curious to how you define a "rival"?
Xavier has played Miami more than most any opponent in our history, the only team we have an older series with is ud, and our games are fairly even given the amount of games we have played. It seems like a rival, but I would clasify it as a "friendly" rival as opposed to an opponent we hate more fiercely.
The series stands at 49-46 in favor of Xavier, and we first played them in the 1920/21 season. They may not be a heated rival, but at least the series is fairly close. We have split the last 2 games with them, and the series has been much more competitive than our series with dayton (for example).
Are you asking me or asking anyone?
I think it is important to a rivalry for both teams to win every so often but not the most important factor. When UC dominated the series with XU for 20 seasons, it was still a big rivalry.
I think proximity of the schools can play a part but again is not the only factor to consider. XU does not have a rivalry with Wright State.
I do think you have to play a team on a consistent basis to create a rivalry as XU also does not have a rivalry (on the court anyway) with OSU.
Outside of UC and UD, Miami is XU's biggest non conference rival.
I can safely say in this one and only instance, over years of reading and posting, that I am uniquely qualified to arbitrate this very important issue. B.S. English, minor Education (Xavier, 19somethingorother, TG Savage pedigree). 5-1/2 years of correcting 150-160 themes a week, 40 weeks a year.

Granted, you may not feel that is equivalent because when reconstrcuted it makes it obvious that it isn't what you meant to say.

The way you constructed the sentence is wrong. Grammar is not something that can be debated and in this case you are merely incorrect. Deal with it. After 10 additional posts to back up your original statement, we get the gist of your argument. And you shouldn't have included a non-conference with a conference opponent in your sentence if that is what you were trying to convey to the XH's family.

Hey, no judgments coming from me by any means, but if I EVER find Kathy Bates sexually attractive in any way, that will be my cue to tie a cinder block to my legs and toss it into the Dayton River. This is what we like to refer to as worst case scenario. I am not arrogant enough to think my life is immune from spiraling out of control at some point, but the day Kathy Bates makes it move even the slightest bit is the day I put on a T.O. jersey and donate my bank account to PETA.

In addition to Miami, UC and UD, I'd like to add St. Joe's and UMass to LH’s list of top non-conference rivals.
Regarding LH's grammar, young English students should read, learn from and appreciate LH’s insistence on using active voice in his posts. Excellent examples include: Stay on topic … Please stay on topic … Thanks sh_t head … Please stay on topic and I was not wrong … That was not the topic of the thread jack@ss, though you really should have inserted a comma between “thread” and “jack@ass.”
Regarding name calling, like LH, I’d also like to call Xeus a “sh_t head.” I know that not to be true, but I struggle calling people names and since that one was already out there…

Turtle,
Please answer the question.

Uh, because it's a question? Isn't that what question marks are for?

OK, someone shave off about the last 20 posts and let's archive this bad boy.

<<What's "pleaze".>>
He may be referring to
(1) the party music CD "Neezie Pleaze" http://cdbaby.com/cd/neeziepleaze or
(2) the Ryan Leslie song "Pleaze pleaze pleaze" http://www.lyricsmania.com/lyrics/ryan_leslie_lyrics_7430/just_right_lyrics_25104/pleaze_pleaze_pleaze_lyrics_350455.html.
No turtle. The "caps" in your post commonly suggest that you were yelling and therefore you should have used an exclamation point, not a question mark. Your sentence was a command not a question.

I love how this thread has single handedly brought LH's rep into EastsideJ status. Congrats LH!! You are one of the most hated posters on this board!! I commend you in waiting this long to demonstrate the kind of dumb things that rattle around in that tin head of yours.
If they keep track of such things, my guess is you would have to rank in the top 5 of the worst reputations of all of the posters in the archives.

Nuts,
First, nothing I wrote was or ever is "dumb". Second, I could care less about rep points and third, no one's actual rep could be any lower than your rep.

Outside of LH, Tonya Harding is the fattest, ugliest thing on this thread.
To think that years back I unleashed some Krazy swimmers while watching her wedding night video now makes me ill.
It is not premature to call LH a lock for the douchbag of the year award.
You already won it KK. It was a landslide ealier in the year.

Somewhere, in someone's basement, _LH weeps.
That would be his mom's. I heard him down there when I left this morning.
My mom has been dead for years KK. You sick bastard!
First, nothing I wrote was or ever is "dumb".
LH, for the love of God, the period goes inside the quotation marks!

What amazes me is that Lenscrafters ever hired you in the first place, LH.

It seems that I, an amateur grammar Nazi, am being lectured about grammar by a retard. My day is made.
