I wanted Braswell as much as everyone else, and it sucks to miss on a kid, but it happens.

So, what is the next move of the staff?

By my count, we have no PFs on the roster for 2010. For 2009, we should have McLean, and I'd say a 50% chance that we still have DBrown (still needs to work on his handle and his jumper).

Some people think Frease and Love can be on the floor together as PF/C. I guess I'm one of those that do not agree. I don't they have enough quickness to defend a 3. I would think a guy like Doellman would step out and take open jumpers all night against a PF like Frease.

I think we could manage through 2009 without a PF by using Love, Frease and McLean in a PF/C rotation, but fouls and injuries could be an issue. As it stands, only Parrom looks to be able to even possibly fill in at PF if we absolutely needed it.

So what's next? I'm thinking a top notch JuCo could be very helpfull for our last 2009 scholarship. I'm not talking about a raw JuCo or a project. I'm talking about a kid that is a known commodity and comes in ready to play. A kid that sees immediate PT in his first year, and likely a starting role in his second year.

If Brown goes pro, then I think we probably pursue a raw, project PF. By the time he goes pro, most of the top PFs are already gonna be committed anyway.

Our list of 2009 PF targets is getting smaller each day. James Still just committed to Providence, and I'm not sure where we stood with him anyway. not alot of other big names on our list of prospects, although I'm sure the staff has some leads that we don't know about.

Then there is the Russian Kyryl. I think he's obviously our new #1 target, and frankly I'd love to get him PROVIDED HE'S ELIGIBLE. I view this kid as having some "Churchill Odia" risk. He's a new prospect, and who knows how good he really is. He might get the attention of Florida, or Duke or UNC or Texas, etc and move right past us. He might have eligibility issues, including test scores or transcripts. He might play one year and decide to got to europe to play there (or do a Christian Drejer and leave in MIDSEASON!). Then again, he might be Dirk N. He's worth the shot in my mind, and if Brown leaves, maybe grab a JuCo then to have some insurance....

Anyone got any guesses or insight?

Agree... although I am not sure that Brown is the surefire lottery pick that others see (at least not yet).

X has big men targeted in 2010 (Justin Martin and Donnie Hale). Could we survive one season with McLean and Frease? Probaby. We did so with no help for Love last season (we had players playing out of position).

The staff has not recruited James Still in about 8 months. Here are the likely candidates to fill the last scholarship: Kyryl Natyazhko, Hassan Whiteside, Andrew Fitzgerald, or Jarrid Famous. I think the staff is probably going to take more of a Center/Forward combo player, because in 2010 we are in great position with Weatherspoon and Hale who are combo 3/4 players.

We are going to get another big guy, and if Brown comes back I would not be suprised if that big guy to a red shirt year.

Where is xu95 on this? He is always in the know when it comes to recruiting.

Fan summed it up pretty well.

It wouldn't bother me if we held out if need be and see who ends up being on the transfer list next year.

I think some may have their eligibility mixed up. For the big men, here is when the players senior year will be.
2008-2009: None
2009-2010: Derrick Brown & Jason Love
2010-2011: Jamel Mclean & Andrew Taylor
2011-2012: Kenny Frease

I would expect X to add one more big from the 4 listed above and then likely 2 "bigs" in either a combo forward or a true big.

For 2008-2009, CJ is a senior. I count him as one of Xavier's bigs.

Just saw on Scout.com that Jordan Williams, who was expected to choose between St. Johns and Maryland, is now looking to take some more time and hinted on expanding his list of schools.

XU is mentioned as a school he was previously interested in, and could easily be one of the schools back in the mix. UMass, IU, and Arizona were also mentioned (one or 2 others, too).

Williams would fit nicely as a PF for us in 2009....

Wow. I thought he was Maryland bound for sure.

Wonder what happened.

Maybe we should ask Brian Walsh?!?

(Not suggesting he had anything to do with it, just that he was another believed to be headed to Maryland.)

Gary. Williams. Period. The guy puts ZERO effort into recruiting because he feels he has tenure after the National Championship in 2002. He gets drunk and plays golf at Congressional in the summer while other head coaches are doing their jobs, and as a result, Maryland goes from one of the most elite programs in college basketball to a perennial ACC middle man in half a decade. Very disappointing, but I do thank him for Walsh and wouldn't mind getting Williams at that expense as well.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Jordan were take a visit to X. If his best options are St. Johns and Maryland we definitely stand a chance.

Unfortunately nothing to add. I believe the coaching staff is willing to wait until the spring and take the Russian if he wants to come.

I really thought Braswell was going to be a Muskie.

Andrew Fitzgerald is off the board. Going to Oklahoma

In better news, Baylor got a commitment from a PF named Crump, and already have a center recruited in 2009. Kyryl Natyazhko had rumored to have Baylor in his top 3 before he recently expanded his list to include 3 others. This is positive for XU (I hope).

I'd like to see something with Jordan Williams. I'm not too excited to hear that the staff may wait until the spring. Too much can happen.

When it comes to Kyryl, Arizona State and Xavier are in the best position to land him.

When is Wall going to commit to Baylor?

<<I'd like to see something with Jordan Williams.>>

As of 3 days ago, NY/NJ blogger Adam Zagoria says it's probably down to St. John's or Maryland for Willams.
