I usually talk XU sports here, but today I thought I'd hype something that I think is one of the coolest things about Cincinnati. For me, and many I know, it's like a holiday.

Cincinnati again becomes the indie music headquarters of the heartland as the Midpoint Music Festival (http://www.mpmf.com) returns this weekend with a growing reputation as one of the nation's most exciting band showcases to be found in a compact, walkable urban setting.
From Thursday, September 25 through Saturday, September 27, more than 180 bands and solo artists will showcase at 16 different venues throughout Downtown, OTR and Newport.

Seabird Kicks Off MPMF with a free Concert!
http://www.mpmf.com/images/artists/seabird.jpg (http://www.myspace.com/seabird)
Cincinnati's Seabird (http://www.myspace.com/seabird) is set to soar. After the June release of their debut CD 'Til We See The Shore the band has signed with Credential/EMI, toured the nation, gotten mucho love from MTV, and is now set to...
... kickoff MidPoint this Thursday at 6 p.m. with a free Fountain Square concert.
A lot of the attention has come from the band's single "Rescue" which was recently licensed by ABC's Pushing Daisies to be the Emmy-winning series' new theme song. The song starts with: "I'm pushing up daisies..." Read a nice Cincinnati Enquirer feature here (http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080921/ENT03/809210313). And check out "Rescue (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uqhGa54l0U)."

Scion Streetcar Shuttle
Spend less time walkin' and more time rockin'
http://mpmf.com/images/scion_greencity.jpg
MidPoint wants you to come out for the music, enjoy the city and move your feet. Scion wants you to keep your feet focused on the dance floor.
Twenty Scion xB's will be dispatched along Cincinnati's proposed streetcar route, offering a taste of what the service would bring while lightening the load in festivalgoers' loafers. Look for streetcar stops at locations running north on Main Street, west on 12th Street, back south on Walnut Street, and east on 5th. Wristband holders ride for free

Check out the national acts performing at the Southgate House
http://www.mpmf.com/images/artists/boston_spaceships_200x160.jpg (http://www.myspace.com/bostonspaceships)
The historic Southgate House, just across the Ohio River in Newport, KY will feature sets on the Dewey's Pizza Stage by established national acts each night, including the debut of Robert Pollard's Boston Spaceships (http://www.myspace.com/bostonspaceships) (pictured). Pollard has been an iconic force in the indie-rock world with his last band, Guided by Voices. The September 25 show, with opening act The High Strung (http://www.myspace.com/thehighstrung), kicks off a national tour supporting his new band's highly anticipated first album, Brown Submarine. Other featured headliners on the Dewey's Pizza stage include The Sadies (http://www.myspace.com/thesadies) (Toronto) on September 26 and Mates of State (http://www.myspace.com/matesofstate) (Stratford, CT) on September 27. Advance tickets are on sale for each of these shows at southgatehouse.com (http://www.southgatehouse.com). A limited number of admissions are reserved for Midpoint 3-day bracelet wearers.

There are too many good artists to mention all of them. I'll only add that if you're into hard rock, jazz, hip hop, country, folk... you can find something you'll like.
Plenty of out-of-town talent coming all the way to Cincinnati to entertain you. China, Israel, England, Canada, Mexico.
And a ton of hometown talent along with ex-Cincinnatians coming back to party.
For the younger music fans there are three stages that are all ages. And the Southgate House is always 18 and older.
I hope this post is not viewed as SPAM. I'm just really excited about it and want to spread the word.
