A Different View of an Old Sweet Song

My mom, God rest, was fond of reading a column by a Dr. Crane which ran several times a week in the Post newspaper. She was especially fond of a saying the doctor used to have: “Everyone has an invisible stamp across his forehead which reads, 'I need to feel important'.”

Mom would often cite that particular column and its familiar phrase whenever we'd wonder aloud why people do and/or say certain things.

Recently our brother and sister posters became quite agitated over the comments and actions of one Josh Howard, the Wake Forest product who in a video “disrespected the national anthem.” The reactions of posters ranged from “what do you expect...?” to the citing by ATL Muskie of the refusal of some of his students—both black and white—to recite the Pledge of Allegiance which he makes them stand for, regardless, to the outright condemnation by others under a headline that labels Howard a “Douchebag" (read more here (http://www.xavierhoops.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5562)).
