Miami (Ohio) just finished up a recruiting run that makes just about every other mid-major school envious.

The remarkable run of commitments began with the commitment of combo guard Orlando Williams in early August and ended on Wednesday, when Coles received a pledge from Drew McGhee, who was also considering Penn State, Davidson and Butler.

The RedHawks also landed combo guard Allen Roberts while at the football game against Vanderbilt last week, power forward Drew Kelly and wing Mark Anderson while on their official visit this past weekend. Roberts is one of the top shooting guards in the state, Kelly had offers from Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky and Anderson was being pursued by Big Ten and other BCS schools.

I agree with this guy, Coles needs to go. Charlie is a nice guy and has done a decent job but he has put that program in a mediocre limbo. They need someone to take that program somewhere.

Knowing Charlie Coles and having had a long-time association with Miami University I'm sadly in a position to react to the seen and the unseen.
I think for some reason, Charlie wants one more year. And from what I know of Miami and its people, he's likely to get it, unless his doctors tell him "Absolutely no.," and I don't think they'll do that.
Plus, basketball at Miami has been and will always be second-fiddle to football at the cradle of coaches.
I suspect that Henderson and Miami have already an agreement in place that he will succeed Charlie when the good man calls it a day.
All that said, I can really hope Charlie calls it a day before the season starts. Have the big party after his final game as coach and let him go quietly into the sunset. For one thing, I doubt he can stand any more of those horrendously long bus rides to and from Buffalo which the MAC insists be made for basketball.
In the highly likely event he does get the one more year, I'm certain Henderson will run the practices, do the advance planning for recruiting and the AD will do the scheduling. Charlie will be the head coach in name only, as he'll be working the sidelines at home and handling the post-game conferences, but Henderson will handle the rest. Just a thought but damn I hope he retires while he still can.:D
