Who in world would racewalk for fun? How can that even be an Olympic Sport?

Some things are harder than they look. I suspect speed walking may be one of those things. Have you ever tried it?

BTW, I doubt those who compete in the Olympic speed walk race do it for fun. It is about the competition.

Well personally, I am training for the 2012 olympics in London. I am averaging 10 miles of racewalking per day averaging 8 minute miles. I am looking at starting a Racewalking Club here at Xavier University. The trick to racewalking is how fast you can wiggle those hips everyone!!!

racewalking is excruciating, to do and to watch. This from a pretty hard core track fan. Race walkers break into a trot when then finish, its so painful.
Judging is another pratfall. Two basic rules: one foot touching the ground at all times, and each leg must be straight, not bent, as it passes through the plane of the body, i.e. when its right under your hips. Try it for a quarter of a mile, then imagine doing it for 50 kilometers/30 miles.

When I first saw this, I thought it was stupid. Why would you not just run and get from point A to point B as fast as possible? But swimming the butterfly, for example, doesn't get you from one end to the other as quickly as possible. I guess it makes a little sense and it's another way to be competitive, as vee said.

Shhh. This might encourage the backwards run, the crossover drill run...the possibilities are nauseating.
