13 years of hard work and persistence from Willie.....cut him.
Way to honor the guy. Gah.

Give me a break. I know it's the popular thing to do on this board lately, but at least save the bashing for when it's warranted.
They offered Willie a contract negotiation, and even upped the offer when he first refused. He made the decision to be cut, not them.
They wanted him to play for a lower base salary and make the rest up in incentives. A fair offer for a guy making that much money in a backup role. He chose to turn it down.

Yep. They gave Willie every chance in the world to remain on the team. He declined, which is his right.
If they use the money (from all three big cuts) to lock up TJ and maybe Stacy Andrews, job well done.

Yeah you are right Jumpy, I didn't read the article about what happened. I like Willie, but he should have seen the writing on the wall about this.

It does suck to see him go like this. Arguably our best offensive lineman ever, and he goes out unceremoniously because he refuses to accept the fact that he isn't the player he used to be.

Ahead of Munoz? I don't think so.

This is sooooooooooo wrong, it's irresponsible.
jumpy, sorry but NO. Anthony the Great was a far better llinemen than Willie. I am not saying that Willie isn't good but "best (Bengal) linemen ever". ( not a direct quote but get over it) is a bit much. While Willie is/was good he is no..........Top Ten linemen in history. ANTHONY HE I S NOT
DC, eat it ( I can't resist the soccer dig, I'm a child.............I know), A the Great could play European Football but Beckham can't play O-Tackle (just pushing "soccor guy's" buttons), there is ABSOLUTELY NO validity to that statement, except that Beckham can't play football and deep down I wish I could have curved my corner kicks (seriously) with greater accurracy.
This DRUNKEN statement comes down to this: Euro Trash Futbal sucks :D and A the Painful was and still is the only O linemen in Bengal history that matters.

There are MANY that consider Munoz the best offensive lineman EVER.
Willie couldn't carry Munoz's jock.

The Bungles are beginning to look like the Reds.

Exactly why I put in the conditional "ARGUABLY". I don't care to argue who was better because, in the end, they were both VERY good linemen.

You are the only person in this planet that would even attempt to argue that Willie is better than Anthony. Willie is a very good lineman and nationally will never get the respect he deserves because of how bad the Bengals were during his time here. But come on, Munoz is the best Tackle ever.

I'm actually most confused by Deltha O'Neal getting cut. The other back up CB's did not look very impressive in the pre-season and our starters are pretty young.

This has been the best Bengal offseason since I started following them. Now hopefully that won't draft anymore Auburn players.

Jumpy.............sorry. Wow, Jim Beam is a hell of a drug. Willie was good but is definately replacable. However he was/is a good lineman and the Bengals will miss him.
Bottom line........the Brown family is in need of serious help and the Bengals will suffer until they relinquish control.
Mike is NO Paul Brown.

You really can't win in this town as a sports team owner. When Carl tried to do the "right thing" for Barry Larkin, Larkin took his undeserved 27 million over 3 years, then still made a stink at the end about how he wanted to retire here after another year.
I really can't blame Mike Brown much for witnessing time after time players looking out for only themselves and taking everything they can get. Mike refused to play that game with Willie. I do think it's a shame, because Willie was about the only consistently good thing about the Bengals in the late 90's and early 2000's, but it ultimately came down to his choice.
The Bengals are not a charitable organization. They are a business.
