This according to Mike and Mike. Not sure what they got for him. Apparently he has to decide if he wants to go.

Jeff Brantley next to go?

If you believe Bob Castellini in the paper this morning than we got some good stuff for him.

I bet the return will be pretty small but I am ok with that. Anything we can get for him is just fine. He clears a roster spot/position for Bruce to move to right and Hairston to play in center. Dickerson can move up from AAA, and he is hitting the ball pretty well lately. The Sox are now responsible for Griffs option next year as well, so they have to either keep him or pay his 4 million fee not to play for them. I like this trade more than trading Dunn, even if Dunn would get a bigger return.

they can give us a ham sammich and a warm Coke and I'd be happy as long as they take his contract.

i am little dissappointed that he got traded because I wanted to see him play this weekend in DC. Oh well, this should help out the Reds in the long run, if he oks that deal.

Its official. The Reds get Nick Masset, a pitcher, and Danny Richar, a 2b. Both have average stats and are fairly young but definitely not prospects anymore.
Are there any White Sox fan who go on this board that have better info or have seen them play?

This reminds me of the start of Major League, "Who the fuck are these guys?"

Don't forget, they are getting cash too. I hear he is a pretty good reliever.

Richar is hitting .230 with 6 HR's and 15 RBI's in 56 games and 187 AB's this season. He should fit in well with the other .230 hitters we have on the team.

Well I hate to see Jr. go even if his production is down. But at least he has a chance to make the playoffs this year and possibly win a ring. Coming home was kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't spot for him. Almost all of his injuries occured while hustling to make plays. Alot of fans hated on him for being injured because of his big contract, but my guess is just as many would have hated on him had he not gone full out. But I wish him the best of luck in Chi-town.

Nick Masset was doing a very good job out of the 'pen in the 1st half, and looked to be on the verge of maybe cracking the rotation, but he's been fairly lousy in the last few weeks, as have some of the other relievers.
Richar looked like the 2B of the future last year, but has been injured much of this year, and looked like less of a prospect as time went on.
This might be a "we'll take your expensive, over-the-hill guy and you take our underachieving, less-expensive youngsters" trade.

I am ok with that. I would rather have some depth at AAA and in the bullpen than some guy decomposing in right field eating up a huge salary.
I really like Griffey but the time definitely had come for him to go.

I'm completely fine with this trade. It frees up a ton of cash, which I think is the most important thing for the Reds right now.
It's being reported that Grif is going to be playing CF for the White Sox. I wonder how long he will last out there again.
Last night was the first time I watched a Reds game all the way through this year. Kind of glad I got to see Grifs last homer as a Red too, and it was a bomb.

I thought so initially, too, but I just heard on the radio that they are still on the hook for $58 mil. in deferred money. they are only saving $4 mil. by getting rid of him now.

Totally agree about damned if...but damn, we never did get our money's worth. I don't think Griffey ever dogged it, he was a great centerfielder, but in terms of leadership, a total zero. He is concerned first and foremost about his own stats on the batting side; and at the time was feeling friend in Seattle and just wanted to come home. This late burst of "ring" fever is pretty lame.
Won't Ozzie eat him alive? Griffey has always been handled with kid gloves.

Wasn't Pinella his manager in Seattle? I doubt Pinella treated him with kid gloves.

Yeah but he did not face the pressure and scrutiny in Seattle that he did here because he was younger, healthier, and he produced more in Seattle.

Remember back when he came to Cincinnati how everyone said it was such a great deal because of the deferred piece...and I always used to think "what does that matter, we still have to pay it."
Now, all we'll hear is how the deferred money is hampering our efforts to spend more...guaranteed.

I'm pretty sure I've read that they have been setting aside money to pay Griffey's deffered comp.

This is my understanding as well. I believe if you look at Griffey's salary the past few years on any of the sites that list such information, they list his salary WITH the deferred money. It isn't like the Reds will have to now suddenly come up with $58 million for him, I am pretty sure they have been setting it aside each year and counting it towards that season's budget.
This was always part of the problem for me and having Griffey on the team. He had all of this deferred money, but we never used that deferred money on other players that would upgrade the club. Griffey offered to defer even more a few times if the Reds needed to use some of his salary for a late season push for the playoffs.

It sucks to see him go. Just not as much as it would suck to have him stay. Good luck Junior.

Is Ozzie Guillen crazy...yes? Does you believe him when he says this...I do:
"I'm going to put the best guys I think we have to give us a better chance to win the game," Guillen said. "We brought Junior to play, but if Junior don't play the way we think he should be playing, then we're going to have guys here to replace. We are here to win, and we will see how it works."
I wish we had management like that...you know Oz will have no issues with benching him if he's doesn't produce. Our manager simply say "His name is Ken Griffey, what can we do?"

I'm guessing he won't be batting third.
Ozzie...put him in CF, and let him show you his defensive prowess. That'll get you hot and bothered to play him 4 times a week.

I personally like Ozzie Guillen. He talks a lot but he usually backs it up unlike a lot of managers. I think he will do exactly what he says with Griffey.

Having Grif bat 7th? I never thought I would see that though.

I picked up Direct TV's Extra Bases so I could watch the White Sox for the rest of the season. It's so strange to see him in a Sox uniform, and even stranger to see him sporting #17. He's appears to be pretty happy though. I'd love to see the White Sox make it to the World Series.
