From Starnews (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080728/SPORTS0601/80728062)

"Indiana University men’s basketball coach Tom Crean has agreed to a two-year extension, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Terms of the extension, which would run through the 2017-18 season, were not immediately available.

Crean initially signed an eight-year deal worth $18.24 million, the largest for a coach at IU."

Shouldn't Indiana wait to see if he's successful before doing this?

He just became coach. What's the point?

He got an extension because he kept all the returning players happy and made sure that no one transferred due to the coaching change

Is it technically an extension if he hasn't even coached a game yet? Wouldn't it be better to call it a reworked contract?

Bizarre.

Bizarre.

Calling it an "extension" appeals more to the female readership, a tough demographic in sports journalism.

Two words come to mind in the wake of the news that Indiana has tacked on two years to Tom Crean's original eight-year IU basketball coaching contract. Uh oh...

If they do have a postseason ban looks like Crawford might have a better case to play this season.
