I'm about to donate the set of irons that I learned to play golf with. These clubs are probably about 40 years old by now, but I believe they were nice clubs at the time. I haven't seen the clubs in several years, but I think they are MacGregor MT's, and I think my dad purchased them new in the 60's. They are in fairly good shape for something that old.

I am fairly certain it's a full set - 3-PW.

They are full size clubs. I'd think you'd want to be at least 5'8" or so.

I'm going to give them to the veterans tomorrow unless someone here wants a set of irons for someone learning to play golf.

Those of you that have golfed with me might take exception to my statement that I "learned to play golf."

Shut up.

Oh. Um, I'm not interested.

I would be interested. I suppose I need to actually learn how to attempt to play golf...

Giving them to veterans is a good idea. You might also want to consider what I've done with various clubs (and hundreds of golf balls) which is to donate them to a City high-school golf program. They always need clubs, balls, etc.

Donate them to The First Tee. They are a great organization sponsored by the PGA, teaching kids of all demographics the rules, and more importantly the values, of golf.

Do they teach you how to properly wrap your club around a tree? How to properly curse at the ball for not doing its job? How to curse in jibberish? The importance of setting your brake on the cart?

And most importantly, sit down with a cold beer and talk about how good of a day it's been and then plan the next tee time.

Jumpy wins. The clubs are going to First Tee.

The Vets have the advantage of picking up at my house, but I suspect the overall value of the clubs will be much better utilized by first tee.

Rep points to Jumpy. (edit) well, if I could. Can someone rep Jumpy for me?

I took care of repping Jumpy for ya Kahn's. It will cost you one Budweiser.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the rep, but most importantly, I know some lucky kid will appreciate the vintage clubs more.

I was actually amazed when I got the clubs out. They are in really nice shape for anything 40 years old. I took them down to Reeves this morning. First Tee had a huge group - I bet about 50- of kids out there. Most of them will be a little small to use those clubs, but the clubs I handed off were much nicer than what most of them were using.

Thanks for the idea Jumpy.

Are you sure the PW is in there?
