Dayton tied for #168. Well done!

That means they had less than 0 points...The same as Traffic Cone would have scored

The article provides an interesting breakdown for the point system. I think this will truly illustrate that Xavier is worthy of being included in discussion of a team that is constantly in the mix for national ranking. I am excited to see tomorrow's list of teams.

I have us at 207 points (reading the article, I don't think they take account for ties in best conference record)...but we will see...

I think that puts us #25

I had the same as XU11 plus 2 for Brian Grant being the #8 pick; so 195.5 or 203 if they give full credit for a regular season tie (note: I had 93 as a tie for 1st and 95 as outright).

Tyrone "Tea Time" Hill was a top 10 pick, no? Off top of my head he was #7 overall.

So over the past 24 seasons, we've had:
17 NCAA berths (10 past the 1st round) and 20 post-season berths (13 past the first round)
19 20+ win seasons
12 regular season titles
9 conference tourney titles

I think our program has a lot to be proud of.

I'll admit it.....it's a nice feeling.

Just visited the UDPride board and OUCH.

A rude awakening to say the least for some and others just in plain denial. Some feel this is just ESPN doing their offseason thing, which it is, but typically ESPN doesn't put in place a value system. Normally it's just subjective crap.

Here are some highlights from the UD Board.

"Also, we finished ninth in the A-10 behind all but Fordham, St. Bonnies and Duquense. The top 8 were X, St. Joe, Richmond, Charlotte, G.W., La Salle, Rhode Island, and St. Louis."

"It is hard to complain when the Flyers haven't won an NCAA tournament game in over 20 years. But, times are a changin. I believe that UD will be talked about in a different manner soon"

"168 is pretty pitiful, given the rich history and tradition that UD has. I wonder what the ranking would be if they went back to the 50s-60s."

"This may help the confused on why we don't play the big boys at UD Arena."

"Absolutely pitiful. I'm at a loss as to why a university like ours that devouts just about all of it's resources to men's basketball is floundering as we are...."

"3 of our first 4 games are against 225 or worse teams... and wofford isnt even on the list. way to add to our prestige"

"Relax guys. They should re-name this poll the "What Have You Done for Me Lately" survey.
Had they taken this poll at the end of the '50s or the '60s, I would like to think that UD would be ranked a helluva lot higher. "

"What can you really argue with here? They're simple, factual numbers. But hey, the 50's and 60's are right around the corner for all you old guard. All you need is a DeLorean, design plans for the Flex Capacitor, and some low grade plutonium you received in trade from some Libyan terrorists."

"If the poll was for the past six years I would say it could be considered what have you done for me lately. 20 years without an ncaa win goes way beyond lately for me."

"I equate it to some of what's going on with the Big 3. UD is like GM, once great in the 50's and 60's, but are now trying to maintain relevance in a changing market."

"The fact that so many of you are trying to mathematically spin this ranking is what bothers me. It is what it is....is it flawed, maybe...but we have not won a tourney game in 20 years. That is what is flawed."

"Sobering and disgusting at the same time."

The Dayton fans need to wake up. BG is recruiting kids that were born in 1989-1991, unless they grew up a fan of basketball history, they know nothing about UD's history.

Recent success matters and Dayton will never be able to close the gap unless they start making it into the tourney and win some games.

I think the funniest thing about those ud fans is how they view their program. The line "Had they taken this poll at the end of the '50s or the '60s, I would like to think that UD would be ranked a helluva lot higher. " is a good example. ud had one NCAA tourney appearance prior to 1960, just one, in 1952. So if they took this poll at the end of the 50's, it would have been worse.

They had a nice run in the 60's, making the tourney 4 times in 65, 66, 67, and 69 and getting to the NC game in 67. But after that, their appearances in the NCAA tourney were sporadic at best. They have only made the tournament 13 times total (to Xavier's 19) and 6 of those appearances came in 1970 or earlier. Since 1970 they have had one elite 8 appearance and made it out of the first round just 3 times in their 7 appearances.

Since 1967 they have won a total of 5 NCAA tournament games--3 of those coming in their elite 8 year of 1984. That is 5 wins in 41 years of basketball, and 9 total NCAA tourney appearances. They did have some nice showings in the NIT, but if we don't talk much about our NIT championship, and if people measure success on the performance in the NCAA tourney, then dayton has no reason to bring up their NIT success.

Yet the dayton fans want to wax nostalgic about the "glory years" of ud basketball. To me, these weren't glory years, they were fluke years in between a whole lot of suck.
