I pray that this means that I will never have to hear from this creature again....and that maybe Xavier, Memphis, Gonzaga and others continued play has caused CBS to come to this fantastic decision.

Thank God "Fudge" is gone. Let's hope his "other basketball interests" means that he limits his broadacsts to DOOK and Carolina games only. Like Dookie V, his true love has always resided in the ACC so he, and all the rest of us, should be thrilled if he were exiled to Carolina.

....no Pierre...what will we do without scapegoats?

Oh wait, Kellogg + Matta = a (w)hole new fertile OSU field to plow. Whew!

Packer's know it all tone and his dismissive presumption about the major conference teams being better than the rest finally rankled even me the last few seasons. But he knew the college game, I give him credit.

It won't take long for X fans to complain that Kellogg doesn't hate OSU and Matta as much as they want him to.

Packer will end up with ESPN and its affiliates ESPN2, Classic, ESPNU, the Ocho, on and on. Can you imagine that? Packer with Vitale?

If that happens, I will never be able to watch any college basketball on ESPN again.

Even if they're hated by America, ESPN would do it in a second if it meant higher ratings. Just like the Bob Knight promos in March, I could imagine ESPN getting behind Fudge in a heartbeat.

Packer will go ESPN if given the chance, but he could do the ACC games on Raycom as well, which might suit him better. That way, nobody would complain about his ACC bias.

I was not a fan of Packer, but at least he had original-sounding opinions.

Clark Kellogg always seems to be "Mr. Obvious." He never tells us anything we don't already know. I find him extremely bland and not really an analyst at all. I don't see this distinguished position lasting very long. But what do I know? Maybe that "vanilla" will sit well with viewers.

I'm sure others will disagree, but I always enjoyed the games with Doug Gottlieb and Tom Brennan. They usually had fun and at the same time could find complementary things to say about every team's skills and talents. You would be informed about what was good about a team's offense or defense. On the other hand, they weren't afraid to call something out when it stinks.

Clark Kellog went to the Boomer Esiason school of broadcasting when it comes to obvious statements.

My favorite line of all time "If they hit this FG here that's another three points".

Tom Brennen is horrendously awful. He should be confined to the obscurity of Vermont for the rest of his days.

They wouldnt put them both together alone it would have to be a 3 man team of broadcasters because neither is a play by play guy. But yes that would be awful.

It's just from CBS. He could be broadcasting basketball for years to come, right?

Most of the games I watch are on on Fox Sports or ESPN anyhow.

So glad this guy is gone. He palyed for a lily white Wake team in a lily white ACC and he thought he was among the pantheon of ACC greats. A royal pain in the ass. Goodbye Billy and good riddance. :D

I'd rather get rid of Berman and Bill Raftery. Here are a bunch of his 'trademark' remarks. I apologize in advance for posting them.

* "Shoulder ... shake ... a little lingerie!"
* "A little pirouette, and they said this was a beer town!"
* “I wheel the wheel barrel down the street to the tin!”
* "Give it to the big fella!"
* "Send it in, Jerome!"
* "The Big Guy"
* "With disdain to the tin!"
* "Send it in, Verne!"
* "...with the kiss!"
* "With the sweet kiss, off the glass..."
* "With a little dipsy do"
* "Dagger!"
* "Onions!"
* "Nylon!"
* "The vegetable cart"
* "Put a little english on it"
* "With the teardrop, that'll make you cry"
* "Panties on the deck"
* "We got a little nickel-dimer here"
* "The small change"
* "With the blow-by"
* "With authority!"
* "Send it in, big fella!"
* "From the Right Wing!"
* "There's a little lingerie on the deck"
* "The bounce to ecstasy"
* "You might call this Newton's Law!"[1]
* "Most unattractive but beneficial"
* "With the dribble drive"
* "Attacking the tin!"
* "Strong... to the goal!"
* "Bring your lunch!"
* "Elevation!"
* "(insert co announcers name), (insert team name) goes man to man!"
* "They're playing a (insert zone defense name) zone with man-to-man principles!"
* "A little ricochet romance!"
* "Get the puppies set!"
* "He can do it all; let him into the band!"
* "(insert player's name) with some early onions!"
* "Fill the lane! Provide the lift!"
* "He can make you ask for your mommy."
* "Walter at the altar: High Mass!"
* "Bottle of blackout!"
* "Deployment!"
* "Divine intervention!"
* "With a little smoocher!"
* "Protect the women and children!"
* "Chubby Checker Do the Twist!"
* Verne Lundquist: "I hope Dwyane Wade likes cajun cooking!" ... (dramatic 5 second pause) ... Bill Raftery: "JAMBALAYA!"
* "A Large Edifice!"
* "He's got the puppies sent off the bus."
* "Why the lefties look so pretty its amazing."
* "Count your Chiclets!"

You beat me to it Smooth. McCarver is the next who should go. That guy is the king of the obvious and belabors every little point he thinks is important.
I also have found Chris"Boomer"Berman more than a little annoying lately. In my youth when Sportscenter was new my friends and I loved the nicknames he came up with on the morning highlights.
Now he just seems lame and used up.
And I disagree with the knock on Raftery. I'd take him and his "tavern league shove" over Dickie V any day.

does anyone remember this line of genius from billy packer during the national championship game?? i'm paraphrasing because i don't remember the exact quote, but it was along the lines of:

"kansas has experience in intense, overtime games like this. they've been here before. they were in that thrilling triple overtime game against north carolina in the 1957 ncaa championship game."

i guess the fact that most of the players in the game weren't even born until the late 1980s was lost on billy.

Actually, if I recall correctly, he said that "We ALL remember" that game. Which compelled a sarcastic reply "Yea, Billy, of course we do" as I was watching with my friends.
