The Crawford thread on the IU scout board recently turned ugly.
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=170&f=2353&t=2665152&p=1
I'll give them a break with the disapproval of the scholarship situation (But it is an internal matter).
BUT ITS COMPLETE B.S. FOR THEM TO CRITICIZE CRAWFORD IN THIS SITUATION. His coach screwed him over and the team. I can't believe that some posters would call him a traitor.
The bottom line is that even with Crean at the helm, the situation remains very ugly at IU. They should recognize that and give some credit to Crawford for getting out of that dismal situation.

For years, IU has been out of touch with reality...this is just another example

The main hang up seems to be that for awhile the IU masses assumed Crawford was going to stay. He didn't initially transfer like Holman and those guys. I think they were shocked honestly. Indiana fans believe they have a Top 5 program (and they may well have one historically), but they still believe in days where people play for them because it says Indiana on the front of the jersey. They can't fathom why anyone would want to leave.

Great now they're calling Miller unethical.. "this is the third scholarship he's pulled for a transfer"... uh... who would that be?

Yeah, I really don't think diehard IU fans realize how much they will suck in the next few years.

Muskie, I just read that post. It's so rediculous. I thought about posting it. But its not worth it.

Come on guys, give the IU faithful a break. Alot of it is probably them still licking their wounds from that ass whooping we gave them last year!!!!

I find it kind of ironic that anybody from IU would be posting about ethics. I mean they hire a guy (Sampson) who was a known cheater and now they're all upset about the legacy he left behind.
Do they really think that one of their coaches wouldn't find room for top-of-the-line talent if they were full on scholarships?

Put it this way...it makes me feel good about the quality of player we are receiving if they are that up in arms about losing him.
They wouldn't have this reaction if we were getting Eric Knopp (no offense Eric).

They'd be pissed if they were missing out on the pride of the REAL St. X.

I can understand why they are so pissed, Xavier welcomed the only returning player worth a lick, and took a four star pg recruit from their 2008 class. I would be pissed if that happened to Xavier, but we did not hire Sampson which lead to all the sanctions and lost scholarships.
Its also very comical that the same IU fans four months ago wanted Miller to bring the program back, now they are throwing under the bus for 'pulling' a scholarship to make room for Crawford. I hope that Dow does an article about Andrew Taylor so that we are able to clear up the perception that we are trying to run kids off of Victory Parkway.
Taylor was brought to Xavier do provide depth and a body to make the guys better. I think his role might increase his junior or senior year as a situational 3 point shooter, but he is a glorified walk-on for the most part. This is not a knock on him but it is the reality, he is a great teammate obviously.

Somebody needs to tell that one clown on their board this '3rd rate' program whupped that arse back in December of '07 when everything was rosy in 'Hoosier Land'.
Oh well Hoosiers. Best of luck rebuilding.

As a person who lives and is from Indiana, I can attest to how delusional a lot of IU fans are. Anytime I bring up Xavier to my IU fan friends they just look down on us like a cute little puppy or something of that ilk. Or it's the "I'm happy for you" line, but in a very condescending tone.
Oh well, remember that one time we beat them by 15? yeah.....me too. Oh, and that one time they backed out of playing us this upcoming season in freaking Indianapolis?! yeah......me too.

There is some seriously funny stuff over on the A-10 board as well...UD fans are flocking...wow is it sad over there

how can you blame a guy for getting off the Titanic? XU is turning heads, starting to get more coverage (most of our main gripes) and great players are looking at us. We have the best recruiting class on paper we've ever had. He went from a team with a big name who is going to SUCK (for a while) to an "up-and-coming" smaller school with a GREAT schedule, a decent NBA resume (specially with Posey winning titles and DWest being an allstar),the most saught after coach before not lying and resigning with us, and the coolest looking court in the nation. although, i heard they just modeled it after my beer pong table...
I couldn't resist joining the IU board. The "3rd rate program" comment was too much.

Some IU fans are like that. They shroud themselves in the five banners hanging at Assembly Hall. You're not going to earn their respect. It's not even worth it. When X wins one, they'll say IU has four more etc.

IU is where UC was, although they should recover more quickly. I give them 3 years before they are back where they are today.

Guys, we need to relax. Look at the first couple of posts. They were very magnanimous in their firt couple of posts. I can't blame them for lashing out, even if it is misplaced.
And I ask you guys who are over there, why poke the bear? You will get one kind of response, and one kind of response alone.
They will degrade Xavier, Miller, our conference, and our recruits.
Just ignore it, let it go, and be happy for what we have.
Hell think about it this way. I was fully willing to bash on Butler when Matt Howard chose Butler over Xavier. I honestly thought he made a horrible choice. But now, looking back, he made the right choice for him, and Butler did damn well. Sometimes our personal opinions are just flat out wrong.

Xfactor's final post is good enough for me. If they wish to continue to banter then let them. It will be without cognisant thought.

I waded through the first two (of 3) pages of that thread on the IU board and first, thanks Xeus and the rest who defended Xavier and Sean.
Momma used to say "It all depends on whose oxen is being gored." A bit of history. After IU won its last championship in, was it 87? Yes, I think, David Minor, the Purcell-Marian grad who was a member of that team, asked Bob Knight to release him so he could transfer back to Cincinnati--of all places to Xavier.
He knew his playing time would be next to nothing the following year and I personally think--while he spoke highly of Knight's coaching and off-court personality--grew very weary of Bob's foul mouth. David being a religious lad who was a very talented singer in his church choir, transferred to Xavier and I believe stayed one or two years and quit leaving school to become a professional singer in a group.
And didn't Ricky Calloway leave the Hoosiers after a successful season and win a championship elsewhere?
Transfers are indeed a fact of life. The fact that Sean and Xavier would seek to JOIN other schools petitioning the NCAA for a waiver of the transfer rule is certainly not surprising.
Xavier didn't go to the other schools who accepted IU transfers and say "Join us in our attempt to screw IU," no, Xavier has considered asking if they can join in kind of a class action. That's it, nothing more. And they're likely to win, because the NCAA likes to put it to violators in many ways.
Having seen nothing but "wish you well, Jordan," posts from a majority of the early contributors to the thread, I note the sh!t doesn't begin to hit the fan until a couple of pissed-off posters started their conspiracy theories.
The "it was only phone calls" made me chuckle. Sampson illegally contacted Xavier recruits after they had signed letters.
There was a helluva lot more wrong with that program than phone calls.
But look at it this way. You're dating a girl in whose behind the sun rises and sets. She is the one, the perfection of perfection. All of a sudden she says "Bye, bye" and starts dating a guy you introduced her to at a friend's party. Just an introduction, nothing more.
After she leaves you the guy she's taken up with calls you and apologizes for "moving in on your girl" and has the nerve to ask you about her character and what type of person she is. You've got a choice, you can either say, "I'd rather not talk about her, we're history. Good luck and best wishes." Or, you can begin a character assassination pointing out all her faults down to the way she sticks her pinky finger out when she drinks from a cup and how annoying it is.
I think the choice is obvious and you'd show class and say "Bonn appetit." That's what most of the posters on that thread did. And then some of their brethearn showed it's far easier to sling sh!t than to say good luck and God speed.
Let's also face some more facts. Xavier has entered the world of high-stakes recruiting in which there will always be a lot of Jesuit Mental Reservation involved. Hopefully not as a matter of policy but more or less as a Walter Cronkiteism. And that my friends is the way it is...
Just remember Dandy Don Meredith--"Some gotta win, some gotta lose, Good-time Charlie's got the blues.":D

On the surface, I am a little bit uncomfortable about this on again, off again scholarship situation. I don't know how often a scholarship is given, then taken away and then given back the next year, but it probably doesn't happen very often. Could it be that there was an understanding, up front, that this could occur?

With the low post count, this message sounds like it's from a humble troll.
That's not a bad thing. I like humble trolls much more than the other type of trolls.

I just went to the IU scout board again. And I honestly feel a little bad about claiming that the board turned "bitter" on Crawford.
The majority of posters wish him the best. It's the negative posters who comment often who skewed our impressions.
It takes a low, low person to wish negatively on a 19 year old kid.

Pretty sure dicoumarin has posted on other X boards in the past. If you personally know dicoumarin then I can understand your post; otherwise, you might consider a troll would typically have more than a single post in 5 months.
All scholorships are one year renewable contracts. A school can revoke a scholorship after each year for whatever reason they feel like.
Obviously, it is in bad taste to do so.

See, I have defended the taking away of scholarships before especially with the Majerus situation, where I dont know if he necessarily took them away or the kids decided to leave after him telling them they didint have much of a shot, but I have defended the taking away of scholarships before, just like academic scholarships can be taken away. I think where I am a little different on this issue, and maybe some others as well, is that it happened so late in the year for Taylor. Unlike Bronson where he had plenty of time to reevaluate things and take action for the future, AT doesnt really have the time to do so. Now maybe he doesnt want to leave and wouldnt have if this happened 3 months ago, but I dont know. Also maybe he was on a "conditional" scholarship and he was just happy to have for for a year last year. I am not sure.

Also, Bronson wanted to go somewhere else to get minutes. That is obviously not the case here, and Taylor was in effect asked to pay the way for Crawford.
