In a surprise turn, former IU PG Armon Bassett has joined former IU Head Coach Mike Davis at UAB. Bassett originally verballed to IU while Davis was the head coach.

When thinking of schools these IU kids would go to, it never occurred to me that UAB was an option because I had completely forgot about Mike Davis. I do not think that this is that bad of a choice. UAB makes the tourney from time to time and is always competing for 2nd place in the CUSA (since Memphis is locked in as 1).

Most kids will tell you that they go to a school for a coach...If Davis still appeals to Bassett, then he is making a good choice

UAB isn't a bad choice, but kind of a big jump from IU.

I've always thought that UAB has had a very solid program. To me they are somewhat like Xavier as they probably do not get as much credit on a national scale as they probably should.

Simply looking at RPI alone just as a reference point (I know that RPI alone is not everything)

Overall not too shabby.

Actually they are one of the teams I wouldn't mind starting a series with.

UAB also received a verbal commitment from DeMarcus Cousins, a 5-star 2009 center. He's rated the #1 center of the 2009 class, and #6 overall. By the way, DeMarcus also attended the LeBron James Skills Academy.

Here is UAB's 2009 class per Rivals:

Signed Letter of Intent
Armon Bassett (3-star PG)
Elijah Milsap (SG)

Committed/Not Yet Signed
Maurice Bolden (2-star PF)
DeMarcus Cousins (5-star C)
Tamir Jackson (3-star SG)
Casey Mitchell (3-star SG)
David Murray (SG)

Robert Vaden, formerly of IU, joined Mike Davis when he took the job at UAB, so it's not that outrageous.

Believe they also have Vaden coming back too? I can't remember if he pulled out of the draft... i think he would have one more year left. Think he was a three-star.

Sorry, Muskie; I wasn't very clear, bu I only listed new players for 2009. For next year, Vaden will be back. He did pull out of the draft. (He was actually a 4-star recruit per Rivals.)
