IMO North Carolina will go wire to wire next season. Even without knowing their schedule, I just can't see any team in the country beating them. Even on a bad night I think that they will beat even the top teams.

Three players pulled out of the draft to return to college basketball.

UNC returns all five starters from a team that went to the final four. They return national player of the year Tyler Hansbrough. They add 5 star PF Ed Davis, 4 star C Tyler Zeller, 4 star PG Larry Drew and 3 star SG Justin Watts.

Now I know that to go wire to wire is ridiculous, but they pretty much have everything you'd want. Talent, Experience, and Coaching.

The PG is the key to their team, and he was hurt during the tourney.
This is why it's so important for our PG to step up, lead the team on the floor, and make things happen next year.

Not gonna happen in my opinion. I think they will probably win it all but not go undefeated, its just too hard to do especially in the ACC where no they have to play Duke twice and no matter which team is better both always have a shot at winning that game.

Undefeated... not likely? Wire to wire? Possibly.

You could theoretically lose but not lose the number one ranking... It'd be tough but i think it's happened before.

I don't think they will do either. It's too tough, and a long year. Plus, injuries occur.
I will say that they are my prohibative favorite entering the year.

I got gotcha. Madxster was using wire to wire as saying they would go undefeated though was he not? Because that is what I disagree with.

Did UNLV do it in their national championship year? I know they were undefeated.

I just think that UNC is going to be smarter, faster, stronger and more driven. They went to the final 4 with a hurt PG and have everyone returning. If I was a UNC fan I'd be pumped. In reality it's unlikely, but it is a possibility.

I think that UNLV did do it one year. Didn't they?

They are gonna be dominant. Consider the ACC. Duke might be down, Wake has a stud class- but freshmen wont stand a chance, BC? NCST? FSU? MIAMI? CLEMSON? UVA? Who's gonna beat the?

And the non-con schedule? I don't care who they play, I can guaranttee that UNC, a #1 team from last year with 4 returning starters including the Nat'l POY will be in midseason form.

I could see them going into the tourney undefeated, having barely been tested. I'd love XU to see them in rd 2 as anm 8 seed.

Did you realize than Hansboro is about 23 PPG away from scoring 3000 in his career....in the ACC. Larkin had 2600, DWest 2150, Sato 2000.....

Hettel, I thought all five starters were returning.

I really believe they will win the national championship next year. I dont think Hansborough will let it elude him in his final year. Also they do have all five starters returning I'm pretty sure.

From Rivals

After three North Carolina players chose to pull out of the draft Monday, there was no debate among our panel over who should be No. 1 in Rivals.com's latest preseason poll. The Tar Heels, who now return every starter from a team that was one win away from the title game this past season, are the runaway favorite to win it all.

With or without the three players who put their names in the draft, the Tar Heels were a contender for the national title – they were No. 5 in our previous poll. Add guards Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington and versatile wing Danny Green back to the mix, and the Heels clearly are the team to beat. Tyler Hansbrough, who could be the first back-to-back national player of the year since Virginia's Ralph Sampson in the early 1980s, and virtually his entire supporting cast return from a team that won 36 games and reached the Final Four. The Heels have also added a top-15 recruiting class.

The last team to go undefeated was IU in 1976. UNLV lost at least once that year.

EDIT****

They went 34-1 in 1990-1991 (lost to Duke)
They went 35-5 in 1989-90 when they won the National Title.
