According to SI.com, NBC has extended their deal with Notre Dame football through 2015. Wonder what effect (if any) that will have on the Big East/conference alignment issues?

In terms of football, Notre Dame never had any plans to join a conference and probably never will. There is just too much revenue to be made by staying independent, and the NBC contract is just one example. Although the Irish were awful last year, the previous two years the ratings were outstanding for NBC. The school might be struggling to get it's football team back to elite status, but if there is one thing ND knows how to do, it's make money, and lots of it.

If the Big East were to ever split, Notre Dame would remain with the football schools for all sports except football. Still, I don't see the Big East splitting up anytime in the next decade. It's too much of a cash cow for the schools and the TV exposure is too great. Xavier is going to have to just stick it out in the A10 and do what Memphis and Gonzaga have done...continually dominate their conference.

NBC sees the recent recruiting work done by ND (no thanx to Ty), and sees them getting back to top 10 status within a coupla years. It's a great move by both parties.

Charlie can recruit but I am skeptical of his coaching right now. He had recruits, that were from Ty, that were still higher ranked that those of Navy. They lost to plenty of teams last year that had worse recruits but Charlie could not come up with any offense that fit his players.

I am a ND fan, and I personally think Weiss is a pompous prick who got a much deserved reality check last year.

I'm not a conspiracy theory type of guy.

But it does seem that annually, ND's recruits are inflated to sell recruiting magazines.

Every year we see ND get the "best" recruits in the country. And they always turn out to be slow.

Guy, the guys on the field (juniors and seniors) were not part of highly ranked classes. I believe they were ranked 40th and 42nd respectively. That being said, they were certainly better than half the schools on schedule last year and Charlie definately should've won more than three games.

More specifically, they too often turn out to be white.

Wait until the horse known as Kyle Rudolph takes over at TE some time this year, and then the Irish will get rolling. And they will also have to teach Jimmy Claussen how to not be such a d bag.
