View Full Version : Chick-Fil-A doesn't like GuyFawkes.

You know why? Because Chick-Fil-A is awesome. Obviously, there are times where I just want a greasy burger, but otherwise, CFA is hands down the best fast food. Anything that awesome would have to be tired of GuyFawkes' blowhole.

To be honest, I can't stand Chick-Fil-A.

Not open on Sundays...What the hell. I hate preachy businesses like that. Some people want to make money on Sundays. And some people want to eat awful food on Sundays. So keep the place open.

And the food is so tasteless. The only way I can eat a sandwich is if I put every condiment on the chicken.

I have to say I prefer White Castle over Chick-Fil-A.

Plus, Chik Fil A uses foam cups, that makes them A-okay in my book!!

Some people like to keep holy the sabboth. No need to knock the rabid baptists that own and operate the mighty Chik Fil A franchises on this planet.

I've gone to McDonald's a couple of times since they introduced their sweet tea and Chick-Fil-A knockoff sandwich; it can't hold a candle to what CFA has.

And Guy, don't even get me started on White Castle.

The Mickey D's sweet tea isn't too bad, but I wouldn't even accept a FREE chicken biscuit from McDonalds, that thing was horrible.

After reading this thread for a couple of days, I broke down yesterday and went to Chick Fil A for lunch. Aw good times.

Has anyone else seen the new McDonalds commercial where they have two black girls eating the new chicken sandwiches? They sit there and talk in half-ebonic type language and one says, "McDonalds really does know the taste of da South." I find them amazingly funny based on the stereotypes that are just stressed in the commercial and how they think that this is how the world actually works. McDonalds loves doing it in all of their ads too.

I tried the McD's southern style chicken sandwich.(They sent like a dozen free coupons) When I took the first bite, I was all psyched because it was the closest thing to a CFA sandwich I'd had, plus I live really close to a MickyD's. I nearly didn't finish it though. They took some sort of shortcut and that sandwich really sucks by the last bite.

Won't eat a CFA. They don't hire anyone who enjoys adult beverages. That's their choice, just like not being open on Sunday. But if they don't allow their employees to enjoy the products of my industry, I won't partake in their products. It's personal, not business!

I also like CFA, and I also like the fact that the people who work there (for the most part) aren't shitheaded mouthbreathers. I understand they have specific hiring policies, but it works out in the end when you can go in there and deal with a decent, well-mannered teenager instead of having to go into McD's and want to punch someone in the ovaries. That's what I freaking hate about McD's and their ilk. You go in there and there's shit everywhere and no one gives a damn. At least at CFA the people there are nice and they actually seem like they care, even if they don't. At least that's the way it is around here. May be that way b/c they're based here and they have to be at the top of their game, but in my experience most CFAs are that way.

My next door neighbor, incidentally, owns the CFA franchise here in town. They do incredible business. CFA must be doing something right.

I've never been through a faster moving drive-thru than the ones I've been through at CFA. It could be 15 cars deep and you move through in about 3 minutes...

Kahns Krazy
06-17-2008, 12:03 PM
The fastest drive through I have ever experienced is the Wendy's on route 4. I was doing a contract job for a defense contractor out that way several years back, and Wendy's was fairly close. It would be fast if the line was 15 deep, but it never got 15 deep. Drive up, order, drive up pay, and by the time I had my change, my order was being held out the next window. We used to joke that you didn't really even need brakes.

Also, they never, ever, screwed a single thing up, and I always have at least one 'custom' order.

I was in McDonalds yesterday, and watched as a 'manager' level person blatently pocketed a dollar. I had ordered and paid when I realized I was a double cheeseburger short. I then said I needed a double cheesburger. It was $1, so I handed her a $1 bill. She didn't ring it in, never opened the drawer, and just yelled in the back that she needed a double cheeseburger.

I will give her some credit, I never saw her pocket the $1. I believe she had this move practiced. I don't even think her pants had pockets. I think she tucked it in one of her giant fat rolls. I was debating reporting the incident until I noticed that her name tag said "Mrs Fawkes", and I realized she needed the dollar way more than the McDonalds corporation.

I worked the Frisch's Mainliner drive-thru in the summer of 86'. Had to wear an outfit that was a duplicate of the 80's Astros road uniforms. Never pocketed any money, but then that is the good thing about slackers; we're not ambitious enough to steal.

I worked for a pizza delivery joint in college. At some point, I got a manager's password to the order tracking system. I was able to go in and cancel orders after I had delivered them and pocket the order total. I always figured there was some way I could get caught that I wasn't thinking of, so I rarely did it, but I did 'supplement' my tips from time to time.

I'm going to start running a tab. I noticed the 32 oz cup and lid at Sam's Club are yours as well. Though knowing the Wal-Mart corporation, that is not your highest margin sale.

I love the concept of a cup at the checkout and a self serve fountain. I think if grocery stores did this, I'd buy one pretty often. It seems I'm hungover pretty often when I do my shopping.

Chick-fil-A ‘blessed’ with increased sales

By JOE GUY COLLIER

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Chick-fil-A credited a loyal customer base, affordable prices and menu upgrades for helping it increase sales in 2008. God’s blessing didn’t hurt, either, a company executive says.

The Atlanta-based chicken chain reported Thursday system-wide sales for last year of $2.96 billion, up 12 percent from 2007. The company has increased sales every year since the first Chick-fil-A opened in Atlanta’s Greenbriar Mall in 1967. It was the 16th straight year of double-digit sales growth.

Same-store sales rose 4.6 percent. The company added 83 stores, ending the year with 1,422 outlets.

Chick-fil-A benefited by being a lower-priced option for consumers, said Dan Cathy, Chick-fil-A’s president and chief operating officer.

“We’re not a high-end, plush restaurant with a $30 average ticket,” Cathy said. “Thankfully, we’re a much more affordable part of your day type expenditure.”

He also was quick to thank his customers and God for the year. The Cathy family, which keeps stores closed on Sundays, is known for its involvement in church and faith-based charities.

“I do think that God has blessed our business,” Cathy said.

Among restaurants, the fast-food category is holding up better in the recession than full-service, higher-end eateries. In 2008, U.S. sales at limited-service restaurants rose 2 percent, compared to a 2.5 percent drop for full-service restaurants, according to Technomic, a Chicago restaurant research and consulting firm.

Chick-fil-A is among the fast-food players that are staying ahead of the industry pace. McDonald’s Corp., the biggest fast-food chain in the world, also reported this week a 4 percent increase in U.S. same-store sales and an 8 percent increase in U.S. operating income.

McDonald’s, by the way, cited chicken products as one driver of growth. It introduced last year a Southern style chicken sandwich and biscuit that bears a strong resemblance to Chick-fil-A’s own offerings.

Chick-fil-A, a privately owned company, does not disclose profit data. While sales increased in 2008, the company is being cautious this year, Cathy said.

In 2009, Chick-fil-A expects to add 76 outlets, down slightly from last year. The company has delayed a move by some corporate headquarters employees into new office space.

It also will keep staffing levels even at the corporate headquarters south of Atlanta. Chick-fil-A has a corporate staff of 732 employees.

Chick-fil-A won’t have layoffs and will replace staff members if they leave, but investments and hiring will be focused at the store-level, Cathy said. The chain plans to renovate 65 restaurants this year.

“I think all of our staff knows that against the coming economic backdrop, with where their friends and neighbors are, we’re eternally grateful to have a job and be with a healthy business,” Cathy said. “We want to make sure it stays that way.”

Chick-fil-A is rolling out an initiative designed to take their customer service the “second mile.” The first-mile elements, as Cathy explained, are the basics of the business — a clean parking lot and restaurant, hot fries and a smiling staff.

As part of the second mile, Chick-fil-A is teaching etiquette to employees, starting with training sessions for store operators.

Company employees are already known for responding with “It’s my pleasure” to customer thank yous. As part of the next phase, employees might be walking through the dining room asking customers, “Sir, may I refresh your beverage?”

Chick-fil-A also has new products in the works. In 2008, Chick-fil-A completed an aggressive product rollout that included a new chargrilled chicken and fruit salad, larger chicken strips and a chicken salad sandwich with chunkier meat and new wheatberry bread.

The restaurant chain expects to add a peach flavored milkshake this summer, Cathy said. It’s also testing a spicy chicken sandwich in some markets that could be added in 2010, he said.

“We are always tweaking and refining,” Cathy said. “The challenge you have with a 63-year-old family business is: How do you continue to stay relevant with the customer? How do you continue to reshape the business, retool the business?”

Truett Cathy, Dan’s father, opened his first restaurant, the Dwarf House, in 1946 before going on to create Chick-fil-A.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I go there not only for the food but also b/c I know it will be clean and the employees won't drool while they cuss you out. That's one reason I hate McD's. one of many.

The peach milkshake sounds awesome. Can't wait for that. I haven't been to CFA in a while but I wonder if this area is a test market for that spicy sandwich. Might have to check that out. We were a test market for the shakes. Their shakes are not cheap but they're damn good.

We were a test market for the shakes

Since Atlanta was the founding location for Chik-fil-A (Dwarf House), you could say that Atlanta is the "test market" for the entire freakin' menu.
