View Full Version : Something I have learned

One thing I have learned from working at my summer job at the BMW is that the majority, and I mean pretty much all personalized license plates, are the dumbest things ever. I mean the things some of these people have on their license plates are just mind numbingly dumb. I work in the washbay at the BMW dealership on Stewart Rd. which is also a Mini Cooper dealership. Why does someone have to describe the car they drive like we dont know what it is? "My Mini" I mean c'mon, dumb. Or "Beemer" also stupid. There are just too many to mention.

On another note, if any of you own a BMW or Mini, let me know. The free car wash for BMW and Mini owners is on Saturdays, and if you let me know I could possibly get you in the front of the line, even if you have one of those stupid personalized license plates. ;)

They are called vanity plates for a reason. I used to have BEATUD, but then a friend at Danas asked me "What's Be A Tud mean?" so I had to lose it.

Saw one today on a big Beemer SUV that made me want to get out and punch the lady with it. U NV ME. Yeah no.

Yeah, that is a bad one. The ones that piss me off the most though like I said before are the ones that describe the car. Just so pointless and stupid and unoriginal. I have seen some good ones, and I have seen a few XU plates and obviously I liked those, but pretty much all of them are dumb and makes me think personalized license p;ates should be banned.

Plenty of folks have asked me what "GOCKS" means. (I was too cheap to pay extra for the State to put a space between the 'GO' and the 'X'!)

If I ever get a personalized plate on my Honda it would say "Ed's BMW" - when people pulled up and said my car was not a BMW I would reply that I'm not Ed (I stole that one from the guy who wrote Airplane).

The only plate I thought was clever was on the plates of a guy I went to college with - 3 putt. A self-deprecating plate would be the only type I wouldn't make fun of.

I'd ask her - What does "you Nevada me" mean? It's fun to see the reaction on people's faces when you read their "clever" plates wrong, like your friend did to your beatud plate.

I drove down to Bristol Motor speedway last year for the night race (insert joke here) and saw some doozies. My favorite was on a ford 350 full of chicks and it read Btch4x4. To the left of the plate was a bumber sticker that said "If you're going to ride my ass, at least pull my hair" Tennessee class.....

I once made an off-the-cuff statement that a higher percentage of Bug owners have personalized plates. The person I made that comment to countered with Mini's as the champ. The guy is relentless and never fails to point out a non-vanity plate on a bug, but I rarely get to return the favor with a Mini. I have now conceded defeat and declare Mini Cooper owners the most vain car owners..................except for those people who can't afford a car, but somehow managed to talk God into buying one for them.

It is friggin amazing the amount of Bug and Mini owners that have personalized licenes plates. They must not even let you off the lot until you order some kind of personalized license plate if you buy a Mini or a Bug.

I have personalized Bengals plates on my car that I ordered in a drunken stupor. I keep them because it is a daily reminder to me not to do stupid sh*t when I drink. It also makes my annual renewal about 10% of the value of my car, which is not stupid at all.

Just be glad you don't live in Georgia. When I moved there in '96, I owned a 1995 Toyota Corolla (I don't know, I think those cars cost about $15k back then) and I had the pay the state of Georgia $274 for my license plate. That was for just the cheap one. It went up from there for personalized.

I just got an e-mail from the BMW store referencing my 1995 BMW 325i convertible. This is excellent news as I was previously unaware that I owned one. I will take a free car even if it is 13 years old. Where should I pick it up?

Also, Dwest, is this your first year there? I know some people that used to work there.

I did have one, and was not embarrassed by it at all. It was not a 325i though, and I sold it more than 3 years ago. That was the e-mail I got though.

I have no interest in having my car influence my lifestyle. Though if it did, I would consider my lifestyle more Honda Civic than BMW.

13 years ago, my boss bought a BMW 5 series. For the life of me, I couldn't understand why anyone would pay so much for a car that at the time I didn't think much more of than a Camry. I've changed my mind. I really like almost the entire BWM line. They are still pricey, and you are paying a premium for the badge, but they are really nice, generally well built cars, and I personally like the styling. If I was planning to spend that kind of coin on my car, I'd certainly be looking at the BMW.

If you live in Kentucky.

Kentucky will give you a tax break if you trade in a vehicle to purchase a Used vehicle. If you trade in a vehicle to purchase a new vehicle there is no tax break. Thus the tax incentive is to purchase a used vehicle. I guess Ky is a green state and prefers to recycle.

I agree. BMW's are sweet. Really sweet. I am of the mindset that you can't really afford a BMW unless you can either pay cash, or put a hefty amount (say 1/2 or more) down. I would never buy one new either, unless I could write a check for $60k and not even blink. YOu can get some pretty good deals on used ones.

Accords are unbelievably good on gas. The interior is pretty nice too if you get the EX. I was surprised at the quality of the leather. It's not that cheap leather that cracks in 5 years like you used to get on Accords. I drive an Audi right now, but I am getting tired of the maintenence, poor gas mileage, and premium fuel. My next car will probably be an Accord.

We bought my wife's X5 as a certified pre-owned. I honestly believe that is the way to go. It was three years old at the time and had 34k miles. The CPO warranty is 6 years or 100k miles. Therefore, she got a 3 year 66k mile warranty all for the price of an Explorer. I honestly don't see why everyone doesn't own a BMW. For just a little bit more you can prepay the maintenace as well. I think that paid for itself when they changed the brakes on it for free.
