The commercials for this "weatherman" bother me.

Here's a sample:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NTn4m4qcdY

The slogan, "Derek said it would be like this" suggest that Derek is a profit, or a messiah, or the Nietzschean Superman.

It all creeps me out. Derek is not Moses. He can't perfectly predict the weather. He doesn't have any contact with supernatural forces.

He's simply a crony. An impostor.

I think Derek is a good meteorologist, but you're right--- his commercials have got to go.

I like the tshirt that has a picture of the ark and its raining and below it, it says, "Derek said it would".

I'm pretty sure that Derek's commercials are done with tongue firmly implanted in cheek. Humor and hyperbole usually work for me in advertising situations. For example I enjoy the WEBN billboards with their simplicity and over-the-top statements by ficticious Greater Cincinnatians. Some of Target's recent TV commercials make me want to reward their efforts by visiting that store first when I'm in the market for products they carry.

Guy, will you ever create a thread that starts: "I like...".

(Oh, I thought of one: "I like to begin threads about people and things that I don't like.")

Guy, please save your angst for the commercials that are really bad, such as the Heineken Light commercial where the heroin addict gives a beer to the homeboy who gives it to the Viking who gives it to the ballerina ad naseum. That song makes me want to smash my High Life bottle and cut those f#$kers a new orifice.

Sorry about the hijack. Back to your regularly scheduling bitching, Mr. Fawkes.

I disagree. I think the jingle is hilarious, whether they attempted them to be funny or serious. I heard an interview of Derek on Willie during the winter and Willie tried to get Derek to apologize for one of his bogus forecasts. All the weathermen were predicting like a foot of snow and 2 inches at most appeared, or something like that, and Derek would not apologize. He more or less said that he felt God chose him to be a weatherman. It was some decent radio.

I'm with the Fawker on this one. I have had enough of Derek and the merry bunch of boy choir 'mos singing his praises. Creeps me out.

You're a weatherman. The computer does all your work for you. You should be a hot chick, like on the now defunct "Back to You". http://michaelmaddox.net/imglib/ayda_field_l4ed.jpg

I know very little about about Elder High school. But since that damn commercial came out, I passionately hate the place.

The commercials are ridiculous. But I don't think they are suppose to be satirical.

Yes, I guess I like to dislike.

I just ask you, don't tune into Derek, "The Messiah" Beasley's report. If you go down, go down with your dignity.

If you see any hags flying by on a bicycle, head for cover. I think we're safe for the night, although I heard XU lost power today and MU students had to head for shelter.

Hey all...

Just happened to stumble upon this thread, and decided to pop in to say hello. The "Derek Said It Would" commercials were part of a name recognition campaign to get my name out into the community in a catchy way. When you are the new guy on the block going up against chief meteorologists that have been in this city of 10+ years, its a quick and effective way to get the name and face to stick in people's head. Negative or positive, if people are talking about it, then the commercials are doing what they were intended to do. Was it my idea? No....it's not my style. Did I have fun doing them? Absolutely...I got a chance to get out into the community and meet some of the really cool people in Cincinnati. As a matter of fact, since I am a Xavier fan, and have been for years.....we were trying to get a commercial going with the Xavier hoops team right after their tournament bid.

Either way...thanks for the feedback, positive or negative. Have a good one!

Have we ever had a celebrity post like that before? This is tight.

lol....i can only imagine the ratings if they had used the Xavier team. They would have lost about 90% market share while gaining about 10%....if that makes sense :)

Have we ever had a celebrity post like that before? This is tight.

Pete Delkus has always been our message board weather man. I don't know how he will feel if Derek intrudes on his turf.

For the record, I like Derek Beasly and his forecasts. I watched him when he was on the early morning broadcasts, and was glad to see him get promoted to the night gig. Good for Derek.

I know Pete and he is was definitely one of the best to come through the area. I hear he's doing very well in Dallas. My intent was not "intrude" on anyone's turf. I like Xavier....have friends and family that have gone to school there, so I'm just here to show my support for Xavier Athletics. Definitely nothing more. :)

Thanks for the support nuts4xu!

The comment about Pete's turf was tongue in cheek, there is more than enough room on this board for more than one weather man.

Keep up the good work Derek.

Derek, we will need you to go to the golf thread and start giving us daily updates on if we are going to have good weather for our 18 holes or not.

If we are to believe Guy Fawkes, he doesn't need a weather forecaster to play his 18 holes!

huh, is that really Derek Beasley?

well, umm, yeah, this is a little awkward.

I did create a thread stating I didn't like teachers and kids. So Beasley is in good company.

And I never said the commercials were ineffective. Sometimes, out of nowhere at work, the song will pop up in my head.
