As i've been updating the recruiting forums I have noticed a subtle shift in the regions of the country X seems to be focusing on.
I'll do a little bit of research, but on it's face it appears that we're moving slightly away from the Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky targets and more towards the New York and Georgia markets.
Any thoughts on this, keeping in mind the fact that you obviously have go where the talent is?
For instance 9 Xavier targets are from the State of Georgia and 7 from New York State in the 2009 class (estimates). 8 Xavier targets for 2010 are from Georgia.

The 2009 class in Ohio isn't very strong, especially considering the type of talent Ohio has produced the last few years. With the younger classes, Ohio is a much higher priority because there's more talent.
If we're serious about being a national program, it's important to get a couple recruits from Atlanta, NYC, and Philly to improve our name recognition in outside regions. But I think Ohio-KY-Indiana are still our top priorities. Most kids like to play close to home where their parents and friends will be able to see them. Also, keeping a firm presence in the local region pays off big time long-term.
I'd say that National Recruiting is what is going to take us to the next level (the Final Four) but success close to home will be what keeps us there.

Book is the reason for the shift to the NY pipeline. Gauchos are a pretty legit AAU organization and he was involved with them.

Totally understand the Book connection and how it relates to recruiting that region. I just did a short little summary of recruiting since 2002 (through 2009) here (http://www.xavierhoops.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4429). It's basically where Xavier focused their interests and offers for the past seven years or so.
