Congrats to all those that are currently at Cintas getting their diplomas. You worked hard, played hard, learned some skills that will benefit you for the rest of your life, cheered on your Muskies, and made great friendships. Don't forget that you represent Xavier University with all that you do, so represent well.
If there is ever a time that you are in need, please be free to ask the XU community for help. And return to the favor to other XU alums.
Make mom and dad proud. Do great things with the degrees and keep us informed on what life has in order for you.
Congrats!

Congrats to all the graduates. It was on this day ten years ago, I received my degree. Ten years later I'm at work. Been at work since 4 in the morning.
Not sure what that means, but it is what it is.
Great job guys and good luck!

Came here to post this. Among the many seniors that gradudated today, Drew, Stanley, and Josh received their diplomas. The unbending commitment to academics and graduation is one of primary reasons I am proud to support this program.

Wow, hard to believe it's been ten years since that incredibly dull, meaningless speech from the President of Xavier University of Louisiana. At least when I graduated from UNC I got to hear Bill Cosby.
Congrats to all the graduates, and for those now entering the real world, sorry.

Wait, was Phil Martelli there to witness first hand the graduation of Stan?!?!

Congrats to all those who now have their diplomas from Xavier. You earned them. Are they still printed in Latin?
And congrats to DC Muskie for faking Xavier out for 10 years- like he really did all the work required for a degree- and not being caught yet.:D

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe somebody had a cardboard face of Martelli when stan went up to get his degree.

i would like to add myself to the list of today's graduates.
Good look on the martelli reference, but I did not see any references to that at the ceremony. It would have been hilarious had someone remembered.

Wow - people actually remember speakers at graduation other than me - back in 2001, I think we had the chancellor from BC speaking. They must love staying within the Jesuit family or something.
Congrats to the 08 grads who frequent the board; good luck in the next step forward.

We had Cokie Roberts in 97. I can't remember a thing she said but remember not being completely bored while she was speaking.
Shortly after she was done, me and the guy two seats down unleashed 3 cans of silly string on the girl we didn't know in between us and then on all of the people around us. The girl was certainly not amused and people had no idea what was going on for a few seconds.
If you were on the left side when looking down from the stage and about 10-15 rows back, I'm belatedly sorry. Ahh, no I'm not, it was a blast.
Does Dana's still open up at 5:30 before graduation?

2001 here as well. That dude from BC was HORRIBLE. My sister graduated last year, and they had the CEO of P&G as the speaker. He was great. Us 2001 graduates got hosed.

94Grad was there and open...I always enjoyed closing Dana's...and then opening it the next morning for graduation

When it's been 49 years since you graduated, like me, you won't remember the darn
graduation speaker, let alone what he, she or it said. Heard some university up East had Mr. Ed address the graduates. Must have been a riot. Or. Maybe not.
Anyway, God bless all the graduates. You've worked damned hard for that sheepskin, or is it plastic by now? Jesuits never give anything away.
I would love to have seen a picture of Phil Martelli shaking hands with Stanley and then waving goodbye to him. Sean and Bobinski should have sent him an invitation and a plane ticket, one way.
And just remember grads, this is not only the first day of the rest of your life, it is your last day of carefree who gives a sh!t living. Party on and good luck. :D

Thanks Webster for the well wishes. Hard to believe it's been four years since I moved into Brockman. I've come a long way since my FreshXU08 days on MM.
It's been an especially hectic day for me and my family. My sister graduated from HS this morning, so my dad was at X with me and my mom was home in Louisville with the rest of the family for my sister. I will say though she is carrying on the tradition and is going to be a freshman at Xavier next year.
I have more to say about the ceremony but my body is crashing after today and this past Senior Week. Thanks again.

I remember the speaker at the '71 graduation was Larry O'Brien. He ran the presidential campaigns of JFK and LBJ and later became NBA commissioner. I don't remember anything he said, but it was a very warm day in the footall stadium and we enjoyed liquid refreshments smuggled in under our gowns. Stroh's as I recall.

I was the last class that graduated off campus (2000). Though we had been promised a Cintas graduation at one point. I cannot for the life of me remember who spoke. All i remember is sitting on the floor of First-Star Center (or whatever we were calling it then) and freezing because the concrete slabs over the ice rink were beginning to flood because of condensation. The Williams College of Business of course went last... so it was a long cold wait.

I attended yesterday's commencement ceremony. My son received his degree as did Frank D's brother. Both did so with honors. I thought the commencement address by Eric Kunzel was okay. He is a man of great musical talent who has done a lot of service. So, service was really his message. The baccalaureate Mass at St. Peter's was absolutely beautiful. All-in-all it was a proud weekend for the vee family.
Stan and Josh stayed around for the rest of the ceremony after making the walk, but I didn't see Drew after he left the stage. Stan spent a lot of time texting. But, to his defense, it was a long wait between when he made his walk and the end of the ceremony. He did see genuinely proud to get his degree.

We had the president of Loyola (Chicago) speak at the '94 ceremony. It was brutal. It was like reading one of Snipe's political posts.
I remember being tempted to walk out b/c I couldn't stand it any more- plus I was dealing with a nasty hangover. It's hard to sit on a folding chair in the middle of Riverfront Coliseum listening to the president of Loyola go on and on and on while you're feeling like ass.

Congrats to the Vee and D families. I know you guys had a great time. Man, the last D kid out of college. Hard to believe.
What is even harder to believe is that the guys who were my room and suite mates, and who I'm still close with, all had kids who also went to and graduated from Xavier. The Canton Barrister had 2, The Floyd County Judge had 1, I had 1.
I guess that we must really have jocked Xavier hard in front of our kids- but we should have.

You can't blame Stan for texting. 15 minutes after I got back to my seat, I got so bored that I started playing 20 questions via text message with my roommate that was 5 or 6 rows behind me.
900 names is a long time to sit around and wait.

Would this be another reason for not attending a place like Ohio State. How does that work? Start on Saturday and end on Monday evening.

Most big schools do it by school. So the business majors graduate at a different time then the Arts and Sciences graduates and Social sciences graduates. I was also told that at purdue and a few other big schools, they don't announce your name, they just flash it across the screen (like they did yesterday at cintas).

Yeah, that's the way UGA does it. And they hold Masters and PhD ceremonies on either a different date or at a different venue if on the same date.

SLU is only like a couple thousand more than XU, but we had two graduations. We had a pre-commencement where each college had theirs at a different time and that is when we walked across the stage, and then we had our commencement on a Saturday for the whole University, where you stood up as a college and the crowd acknowledged you. Joe Buck was our speaker.
