I had no idea that a ball was still live once it touched the rim? (in terms of goal tending).

Aw right. There is a cesspool in Southern california and the tiny village of North College Hill, Indiana's trying to escape heavy sanctions, and the colleges are still allowing John Cahill to ref games--just kidding, or am I?--and the NBA's so-called "hard foul" has filtered into the high school snd college ranks, and we're worried about bouncing the ball off the backboard and slamming it home ao we put more onus on referees???

I believe there is a difference in offensive and defensive goaltending. Offensive can only occur if the ball is above the cylinder of the rim. The backboard rule only refers to defensive goaltending.
