Alright for everyone who doesn't know...
Baltimore and Washington, DC are two completely different cities. Hence they have different names. Baltimore is in a state. Washington, DC is not.
Washington, DC is the nation's capital. Baltimore is Maryland's largest city.
Washington, DC has two airports, Dulles International and National. Baltimore has one called Thurgood Marshall at Baltimore -Washington...whoops!
I hate hate hate when people think that Washington and Baltimore are the same area. They are not. Not even close. And it's always one way. Baltimore wants to get into the DC market, so they pay the local stations to carry the Ravens, one radio station still plays O's games. And this stupid mythology that one huge giant metro area called BaltimoreWashington, DC MD exists.
I hate it. Enough. Sports Illustrated is coming out with a cover that talks about Washington and Baltimore together. STOP IT. Please stop.
Look at this crap. Why are they talking about Washington teams when you have the freaking O's on the cover?

There are many many good things about Baltimore. I like the town minus of course the Ravens. I like O's and glad they are in first place. I like all of the TV shows that are based in Baltimore. Major League II was filmed in Baltimore.
Stop putting these two cities together. Stop trying to put breaded fish on top of chocolate mousse and think it looks like apple cobbler. It simply doesn't work.

This isn't really a peeve because it doesn't really bother me, I just find it dumb.
TV news "live" reports from locations that are totally irrelevant to the story. Channel 19 this morning was talking about the NFL refs coming back, and they did a live report from Paul Brown Stadium at 6:30 this morning. What is the point of that? What a silly waste of effort.

Pet peeve: The new format on this board won't permit me to post any pictures larger than a thumbnail. I see others post larger pictures, yet, either I am not skilled enough or I have had the handcuffs placed on my top notch picture posting.
As an example, just look at the hot broad I posted in the Ryder Cup thread. This is Rory McIlroy's girlfriend and is high quality spank material. The picture is even suited for most work environments.

You did a google search for Rory's girlfriend. Then you used the photo on the search results as a URL. On the search results it's only a thumbnail size.
If you clicked all the way through to the photo original, and then the "full size" option (one more click through) you could pick up the full size URL to copy and paste using the "insert image" icon in the tool bar [IMPORTANT......UNCHECK THE BOX THAT SAYS "Retrieve remote file and reference locally"]resulting in this:
http://www.gsports247.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Rory-McIlroys-Girlfriend.jpg
I have NO IDEA why when I do this it also posts a thumbnail at the bottom of this page. I have nothing going on I can see that results in this extra photo. I tried Glow's instructions from the other thread, but I couldn't make them work.

Now that's funny, and it wouldn't taste very good either, so you made your point with it.
I guess it's a matter of whether or not people have travelled to both - the overall area - to get the point you're making. I can't imagine ever considering them as one big metro area. They're very distinct cities. They're also about 40 miles of I-95 apart, if memory serves me correctly. That's like attempting to argue that Cincinnati and Dayton are essentially linked.

These are the kind of things cops should ticket people for. This type of behavior is more dangerous than speeding.
And can I add that the merge lane is for you to MERGE not to light a cigarette, make sure kid is buckled in, or take one last look at your phone to check e-mail/texts. The number of people that attempt to merge with their head obviously looking down or turned backwards is both frustrating and scary. And I see it almost every day I go to work.

There's another pet peeve right there...Cops more concerned with catching people speeding for going 12 over in a 55 to 70 mph zone than with truly dangerous activity...which should be the reason for ticketing in the first place.

Since driving is the topic, I'd have to say when someone is riding on your bumper. Case in point, Driving through Winton Woods, which the speed limit is 25, going about 33-34 and a car is so close behind me, I cannot see the hood of his car.
Watched someone this morning driving 40+ with less than a half a car length behind someone. The other lane was wide open, switch lanes idiot.

People who switch lanes for no reason. I'm in the middle lane and a car in the right lane with nobody in front of him suddenly decides he needs to be in the middle lane.
That and the people who change lanes then slow down. It makes absolutely no sense, yet I see this more than I can count. People actually change into a faster lane then I see their brake lights.

Lazy, misinformed media. It's driving me insane.
Most media sources are reporting that Lance Armstrong has been stripped of his Tour De France titles by the US anti-doping Agency. He hasn't. They don't have the power to do so, only international cycling (UCI) can do that, but all these media types are just reporting him being stripped, without due diligence. It's a snowball rolling down a hill, they keep just forwarding this idea, without even knowing the facts.
And yeah, he doped, but that's not the point here.

No, they may never admit that (and it is true that he is). And I wasn't mentioning it as an excuse for his behavior, just saying that the fact that most people were doping re-equalized the playing field (just on a horrible level) and he far surpassed everyone else there. It wasn't a situation where he cheated while others were clean (which would suggest that absent his cheating, they would have beat him). The best competitors also cheated yet still couldn't beat their fellow cheater. Thus, if we measure greatness as relative to other top competitors within the same category, then he was one of the greats.
But just as I think McGwire and Bonds (among others) shouldn't be admitted to the Hall of Fame, I also think Armstrong shouldn't be spoken of with reverence. An amazing cyclist who I bet would have still won at least a couple Tours if he was clean (and it would have been fun to remember), but he chose not to stay clean...and that's on him, while we're left with the "What if's". Since possibly all his realistic competitors also cheated, the fans of the sport stand out as the real losers.

It may have been brought up, and I may get some backlash because there may be some who are on the other side of this, but this is a big pet peeve of mine:
Using arbitrary and ridiculous sports awards as "proof" of a players value. Like Player X is a better player than Player Y because Player X has 13 Gold Gloves to Player Y's 2 Gold Gloves.
The Gold Glove award and All-Star appearances (in any sport) are the two biggest examples of this. How can someone honestly believe these things prove worth? Yao Ming was voted into an all star game in a year he didn't play. Rafael Palmeiro won a Gold Glove at first base for a year he played 28 games at first.

I must have the same baskets. I thought it was because I have an older house that perhaps the doors are narrower.
Besides holding it at 12 and 6 is just awkward, but you end up doing it because your other option is scraping your knuckles.

I can't figure out what the point of this is. Obviously, firemen both eat and sleep while on duty. I'm assuming you are being facetious about you picking up women, but are you trying to say that the other two things don't happen?

Nope, just the ones that play the role of the martyr and distort the facts about how much that good costs. I have zero problem supporting the public safety departments, I just want an honest discussion about it and in particular about financing it. I am very good friends with a police chief in Northern Kentucky. We have had some very candid conversations about the pros and cons of double dipping. I think his perspective is interesting and valuable, but only because he is willing to acknowledge that some of the benefits are very rich.
Intimating that the public perception about firefighters eating and sleeping on duty is inaccurate is not an honest discussion, especially from one who has previously bragged on this site about how lavish the meals can be. I don't think I'm being unreasonable pointing that out.
Back to the post that started this round, I find it a bit disingenuous that the guy on the board who chose a career that in part includes responding to accident sites doesn't understand why anyone else would slow down to see what is going on. If it's interesting enough to do every day, wouldn't it be obvious why it's interesting to us "bean-counters" as we drive by?
So to answer your question, I guess the answer is "Just Thor's".

You get so tripped up in your own words that your only defense is that you can't explain it. Honestly, I can't blame you, because that tactic has worked with city council for years. Stick to it. You are a strange one there Kahns. I have given you links to my pension system, my contract, my pay, everything. It's public knowledge and free to look over. The reason I have ever said "it's not worth it" is because I have to explain EVERYTHING to you since you can't even fathom the most basic of principles. Like your "total dollars paid divided by total employees" mistake. But I'll fix that. The CFD has had 1 class of 40 recruits in the past 5 years. Right now the department is approximately 125 members under optimal manpower, due to retirements (of assistant chiefs, district chiefs, captains, lieutenants, investigators, firefighters, and drivers) that weren't filled with new recruits who obviously start at the bottom. So the department is getting top heavy and as such, "total dollars paid divided by total employees" is being greatly skewed upwards because those higher officer positions are being filled, but not the lower, regular spots. If you include the pension benefits, it's completely solvent, so what's the problem there?
Got it? Did I spell it out clearly enough for you there? Or do I have to spoon feed you everything?
Oh and when someone who has a pension and they die, survivors get some part of that pension, based on personal choices of taking an annuity or a lump sum of a percentage of the pension that involves stuff like number of survivors, length of service, time in retirement, etc.
Care to retort? Did I give you enough facts? Or are do you have to confer with a guy in another state, who does a different job, and is a different system first?
Do you really, honest to God believe that Cincinnati firefighters are getting overpaid?
And I took you off ignore because I was bored, that's all. No sinister backstory or anything.

06-27-2013, 10:58 PM
Oh wait, did I include how the fire department makes the city money? Did I forget that factor for the Bean Counter? Every permit, every event, sporting event, concert, and the big one...every Ambulance ride brings in money for the city? I bet you forgot to see that part of your one line judgment of the department.
See, when the fire department transports someone to the hospital in an ambulance, it's an advanced life support ride. That means it costs anywhere between $700-$1200 dependent on multiple factors. In a normal day that's about 90-120 transports to the hospital or so, just a guess at the ambulance rides (12 transports X approx 8-10 per day) based on the fact that the CFD does 200 runs per day and 80% are EMS.
So if you lowball it, no wait, let's just say $500 charged per transport, on 50 transports per day, which is way, way, waaaay low. That's still 9,125,000 the city gets back into the general fund. And I gave you ONE factor that the fire department brings in, not to mention the others I mentioned. And I was being very, very conservative.
I bet you don't put that into your "total dollars paid divided by total employees" because you are just simply ignorant. That's not a slam. People are ignorant about things sometimes. I don't know how the Hell a 401k works, but why should I? When they try to think they know something, when they obviously get shown that they don't see the factors, it's not being rude. I mean, I am not privy to any "secret" info. But who wants to go through the city budget? Like why would the fire department take all of the incoming monies and put it into the general fund and not into the fire budget?
Enough facts for you yet?

That's why I lowballed it. Some people pay, most go to medicaid/medicare and then the rest goes to responsible people with insurance. And yeah, the city makes money on ambulance rides. A LOT of money. Especially true since we went to a full on Advanced life support system. Every ride includes a paramedic. Why do you think the city wants to expand EMS coverage? It's a money maker. A big money maker. (I see your point, money usually comes from Peter to pay Paul)

Kahns Krazy
07-01-2013, 10:47 AM
To wrap this tangent up, I am not attacking your career. I see a problem with the funding sources in the city and the use of finds in the city.
I do not think from a base pay standpoint that firefighters are overpaid. I think the problem lies in the benefits, particularly the pension and healthcare liabilities that can increase over time. This creates an unknown future liability that has bankrupted many companies with better financial management than our city has. My idea would be to increase current pay and eliminate unknown future liabilities.
Certainly, we see different sides of the issue.

There was a soft drink vendor on the Cock and Bull side of the street across from the merchandise vendor, and Mad Tree was technically at Cock and Bull, so they weren't part of the event, so I believe the ratio was 5:1, not 6:0.

X2. There is a stop line, then there is the crosswalk. Bad drivers don't even regard the stop line as being there, just roll to the crosswalk. The worst is when they do it, in the left lane, thus making crossing traffic that is making a left have swing wide to avoid their dumbasses.

People who think they are being "considerate" when they don't follow traffic laws/rules and then screw things up in the process.
Two examples: A) 4 way stop sign and the person on the right refuses to go. They just keep waving for someone else to go when they have the right of way.
B) Merging on a highway. You are on the ramp to merge and estimating when the traffic will pass. The approaching car, that you had estimated would pass you in good order slows down and you don't know if they intend on passing or letting you in.

I do not understand why this is happening. Is there a shortage of t-shirts I don't know about? Is someone stealing t-shirts from the lounge chairs of swimmers at the waterpark so that they're forced to ride roller coasters in a way too small bikini top? It's gross. It needs to stop. I'm glad they're all so proud of their bodies, but that doesn't mean you need to show it off to the rest of the world. Ugh.

I have noticed that the current generation of 20 somethings, particularly young women but also dudes, are amazingly comfortable in their fatness. In some ways, I am jealous of that comfortableness, and I try not to care. In other ways, when I see an extra set of cellulite boobs right under the real boobs, I am grossed out.
I also think that the "fittest" 10% of that same generation are in way better shape than I ever remember women being when I was that age, and they also wear tiny bikinis and flaunt it. Maybe it's what comes with the generation that grew up with a camera in their pocket 24/7. Whatever. Overall, I'll take a little cellulite here if it comes with a side of hardbodies.

Yet while driving I look and see a majority of other drivers driving with their windows closed up, separating themselves from their surroundings. Why? These are probably the same types of people who complain about being stuck inside in their cubicles while at work. I don't get it.

People wearing their bike helmets back on their heads, not pulled forward. This bothers me most when parents give kids helmets but they aren't pulled forward properly. Sure, you are trying to do the right thing, but it's not rocket science. What happens if the kids falls forward and cracks their forehead because you had your stupid helmet on incorrectly? This is an extreme example, but I kid you not, saw a kid on the Little Miami trail yesterday with their helmet on backwards. Way to go Mom.
blobfan
09-03-2013, 01:52 PM
How about parents that let their kids ride in and out from between parked cars then gesticulate at you when you tap your horn to make sure the kid is paying attention? Just because your house is on that street, doesn't make it part of a neighborhood. Parents letting their kids ride in rush hour traffic on secondary streets makes me crazy. Especially when I've narrowly avoided hitting them after they blast through a stop sign.
Kahns Krazy

I think a lot of bike helmets are constructed in a way that makes it easy to wear them wrong. If you go to more of a hockey-style helmet that also covers the lower back part of the head, it's hard to wear it too far back to protect your forehead.
Having said that, I never wore a helmet as a kid on the bike path.
SixFig

As a kid my house was on a hill. One day I was speeding down the (rather steep) slope, hit a snag, and went toppling over my bike. I landed head first in some light brush, underneath which was one of those old 1 gallon glass milk jugs. My helmet smashed that thing into a million pieces, but I was OK and walked away. I can imagine what would have happened if I didn't have a helmet or wasn't wearing it properly.

I kind of doubt their version of the story. Not many retail landlords would jack up rent and risk losing an established tenant, especially when there has been a notable vacancy next door for some time.

This conversation that happened behind us at the Reds game last night:
Person 1: Are you saying you don't support my relationship?
Person 2: No. That's not what I'm saying.
1: Because it sounds like that's what you're saying and I don't know why you'd say that.
2: You know I've always supported you. Even in school I supported you and your relationships. All I'm saying is that if the relationship fails you're going to be left with nothing.
1: But why would you even think the relationship is going to fail? The relationship is fine. Why would you say that?
2: I'm not saying that. I'm just saying "what if".
1: That's what you always say but . . .dammit why does my phone keep ringing. I'm not having this damn conversation at the ballpark.
Now, I know what you're thinking. These two women need to shut it and watch the ball game (because it was fairly exciting - at the time Homer had a no-hitter going). But, they weren't women. No. These two geniuses were men. Well, boys. Well, brosefs is probably the best term.
One of them was 24 the other 26. How do I know? Because I know just about everything about them! For instance, person 1 above is dating and/or engaged and/or married to Ashley. Ashley is sickly apparently because she requires $400 in medication each and every month. She's also not a good cook and wants to buy a house because she is sick of living in a two bedroom apartment. Both person 1 and Ashley are still on their respective father's insurance plans, even though they've graduated from college (hopefully not Xavier!) and are living together in the two bedroom apartment. Guy 2, who is obviously in love with Guy 1, hates everything about Ashley. Guy 2 is also concerned with how much Ashley spends each month, even though Guy 1 lends Guy 2 $10 or $20 every few days.
Guy 2 has it all figured out even though he can't keep a steady job and has a "girlfriend" who is joining the "Air Force". Guy 2 hates his current boss and may just dedcide to not show up to work tomorrow, but that's okay because he has a one bedroom apartment and his car is paid off. Plus the girlfriend is joining the AF, so she'll never know. Guy 2 thinks Guy 1 is nuts for letting Ashley buy a new car, even though her old one broke down and she had no way to get to work in Mason.
This, and more, went on all night long. I thought Mr. LM's head was going to explode. Even the old guy sitting next to them couldn't contain himself. He finally got up, sighed and left for awhile. Little LM is a five year old girl and talked less than these two. I feel sorry for Ashley!

I don't know what her medical issues are (shockingly) but I imagine they're mental in nature in order to deal with the bromance between these two. It's like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, only not as good looking, successful, intelligent or classy.
When they started arguing about whether the relationship was going to last, I wanted to turn around and say "Brosef here is right. One of these relationships isn't going to make it. Either you and Ashley are doomed, or the world's greatest, longest running bromance is about to end. Dude here is in love with you and hates Ashley. The two cannot coexist. There can only be one."

She was standing up with her back to the game literally the entire game talking to the group of people she came with. Just talking and gesturing with no clue about what was happening behind her and laughing, being just an obnoxious bitch. Everyone kept complaining, and yelling for her to sit down. I'm a college coach, and it drives me crazy when I am recruiting a kid and at some point in his response to me he uses "haha" or "lol" in an email. Telling jokes is not part of my recruiting spiel. It'll be interesting to see how this generation of kids are in the future when they bring their text-speak into the business world.
Edit: I forgot to add, completely agree with what Kahn said above me. Do people really think everybody is just going to forget that happened? Just because I haven't brought it up in every conversation I've had today or put up some emotional, attention-seeking facebook status doesn't mean I've forgotten or don't care. Which brings me to my next point, people that put up facebook statuses just for the sole purpose of trying to get attention.

In regards to game day experience, what we are seeing is people who quite obviously don't really want to be at whatever game, concert or event they are at. They are either going because someone else in their group (spouse, boy/girl friend, boss, coworker, etc) wanted to go, or in some cases merely to be seen as one of the cool kids. I figure that scenario may also be annoying to the reds fan in that group who is too polite to say "shut up, sit down and watch the game". Particularly if it could bring disharmony in another part of their life. Also chalk it up to the "me" generation. "The I only care about what I want to do, who cares about anybody else". These would be the same type people who would try to sue the reds for millions if that foul ball hit them. And probably got upset when told their behavior was outside of social norms.

Like the Horseshoe casino incident WLWT has up its grill. Ten guys, who were on private property did not meet whatever dress standards that private property decides to impose. They were given an opportunity to change or turn the shirts inside out (then lodge their complaints in a civil manner), they refused. Then got all bent out of shape when the casino reacted to their reaction by ejecting them. At least it only seems like WLWT is coddling them. I like their "defense" "We were in there over 90 minutes before they said something" as if not getting caught for 90 minutes makes it alright. Like if they had instead been breaking into slot machines and taking the money. "We'll, they didnt say anything when we broke into the first 25 machines would be a reasonable defense.

It is still the house of the Lord. There's something disturbing about seeing a man in his 40s or 50s dressed as I described above - especially when he's the one collecting the money. Stick her with mental trauma lawsuits. She nails the wrong parent (read an attorney with some free time) and they could stick her with loads of legal bills on a mental stress case. This is, of course besides the fact her house will get trashed, and everybody in that town that can make her life a living hell, will.
Once her address makes it to Facebook, she may as well pack it up and leave town.

People with absolutely no knowledge of an individual's situation who try to stick their nose in, especially when this behavior involves shaming a young child.

People who spazz out about the weather - especially when "the weather" coincides with Halloween! Good God! The way people are carrying on you'd think kids were going to miss out on getting gold bricks tonight. And the way people talk about the weather. Geez. We've gone from severe thunderstorms to tornadoes and hurricane force winds. People make me sad.

People who dress like hobos for church. Don't get me wrong. The hubby isn't wearing a suit and tie, and I'm not in my "Sunday best" clutching my pearls, but I still think we can do better than sweatpants, ill-fitting (i.e. too small, too tight) Bengals sweatshirts from the early 90s and gym shoes that look like they've been around since the first Christmas. It is still the house of the Lord. There's something disturbing about seeing a man in his 40s or 50s dressed as I described above - especially when he's the one collecting the money. But, he's not alone. About 1/3 of the congregation looks like they rolled out of bed and stumbled to the church. It's sad. A little effort goes a long way.
Sounds like st Dominics.

It wasn't St. Dominic. But, honestly, we've been to about 7 churches lately in our search for a new parish, and I've noticed it at more than one service. That particular week we were on the east side with friends when I spotted the hobo who set me off. This week at church, I was lucky enough to sit next to the guy who decided to chew his gum with his mouth open. Cows chew more quietly. If that wasn't bad enough he then starting popping his gum throughout the service. When I turned to give him my "look of death" (that all of us moms perfect), I noticed he was wearing a UC t-shirt and realized that he probably didn't know any better being as that he's pathetic enough to be a UC fan.
But seriously, if others can hear you chewing or see you chewing your food, you're doing it wrong!

This. A million times over.
Or, when a group of say 4 friends or family members must walk shoulder to shoulder taking up an entire sidewalk. Can't you break up into twosies so people can get by?

On the track at the YMCA is where I get annoyed by this the most. There are three lanes: walk, jog and run. There are always people walking at least two wide who I have to dodge in the "fast" lane, where I certainly don't belong. And then there are the people who just wander onto the track without looking either to start their walk/run or to walk across to the weight machines. I almost collide with a few people this way every time I run there. The worst, though, are the parents who want to watch their brat's basketball or volleyball game on the courts below by standing in the "fast" lane on the track. I hate those people.

At least each of those exist and the confusion makes sense but in what part of the English language does of follow would or should?

I for one would feel better if threads to sell out games were accompanied by threads telling people what time they should be in their seats, (with explanations of how bad it looks on television and to recruits when we're not in our seats at the properly appointed times), threads telling people when they can leave their seats, and threads about how to cheer, clap, etc. Really, why not just knock out all four most annoying thread subjects simultaneously?

This is kind of part of one of my biggest pet peeves, which is slow play. Going 31 in a 35 or sitting out in the fast lane while steadfastly refusing to go over 55. Taking 3 minutes to line up your 8 foot putt. Deciding to take a nice leisurely stroll down a crowded downtown sidewalk, stopping to look up at the pretty buildings at 1 in the afternoon on a Wednesday. When you're using things that are "shared" - like the roads, sidewalks, golf courses, whatever - have a little thought for others using the same thing you are and keep up the normal pace.
Just a little common courtesy and awareness of your surroundings. Is that really too much to ask?

Haven't posted on this thread...but on my day free from work and coaching (practice tomorrow), I had two of my biggest pet peeves happen to me today.
1. Anyone have a McDonald's near their house that has one drive thru lane that branches into two at the front of line? Once you get to the front of the one lane line, you can choose to go to the inside or outside order lane. I hate it when dumbasses just drive right past the single lane line to the outside order lane. Drives me crazy. I'm sitting here waiting in line with three cars in front of me and three cars behind me...I've got 3 obnoxiously loud kids who are hungry for lunch....I'm following the rules...and some half wit drives to the front. It ends up causing 2 order lines and people can't get out of the parking lot. Do these people just think all these cars waiting in line (and waiting in line correctly) are too stupid to drive to the front of the line? People are friggin' clueless. I almost got out of my car today.
2. Went to a restaurant for dinner to have a beer and get food to go. See an acquaintance (not a friend). They come up to talk my arm off. I'm fine with that...but then my to go order arrives. And they keep talking. Then I tab out....and they keep talking. 5 minutes after my food comes...I'm fine with still talking. I can even tolerate 10 minutes....but 20 minutes later...and this person is still talking. I don't want to be rude...but my food is getting cold. At some point, wouldn't the person say, "well, you don't want your food to get cold, you'd better get going." This exact thing has happened to me multiple times. I would have said something tonight...but the person I was conversing with was telling me about their father who is about to die. It was brutal...I was agonizing in my brain and acting like I was listening intently. I had my mind on my wings and my wings on my mind. When I finally got an opening, I high tailed it. But when I got home, my food was cold. Annoying.
I don't think its a coincidence that two of my biggest pet peeves involve obstacles to me feeding my face.

not sure if this is a pet peeve or if it deserves its own thread. Meat prices. Ground beef is like $4 a pound. Decent steaks are $12-$15 a pound at Kroger. Chicken wings can be over $3/lb I try to get a lot of my meat at Sam's, but sometimes I just need something, and it's crazy what meat costs these days.
Also, for sure a pet peeve, the Michael Bolton Honda commercials. If I were in the market for a car, those commercials alone would take Honda out of the running.

For once, we might get a decent snowfall (and a chance to write sUCks and AAC in the snow at Nippert). That being said, why does NBC and the Weather Channel feel the need to name a winter storm? This isn't a hurricane.

You can thank the "alternative fuel corn ethanol morons", for the price of meat. It has also made the price of milk skyrocket. Corn is a major feed for beef , and corn being used for ethanol, has driven the price of corn sky high, ergo the price of meat has gone way up. Just another dumb idea from the envirnmentalists.
As for the Bolton commercials, my guess is they are aimed at middle aged women, not guys who frequent bball message boards.

"Lukewarm" is the most positive response you can get from environmentalists on corn ethanol, especially because of how the obsession with corn diminishes the production of other crops, burns out the soil in areas not suited for corn, and expands farming farther into natural habitats. Some farm conglomerate lobbies probably love the subsidies though!

I'm sure this has already been mentioned....just didn't want to read through the entire thread....but my biggest pet peeve? Cancer. I get so angry when I learn another loved one, friend or acquaintance has passed due to cancer. We put a man on the moon in 69....that's over 40 years ago. Science has made huge strides in medicating HIV/AIDS and that only became an epidemic in America in the mid 80's. How the hell hasn't man figured out a way to beat cancer? Infuriating.
When I've talked about this issue in the past, the discussion always turns to the conspiracy that the medical field doesn't want a cure. That just pisses me off even more. Making such a claim is just horrible in and of itself because it's just so in humane...infuriating. And if, by chance, it's true? I lose all faith in humanity. I f'in hate cancer.
