That's for Burger King employees for extra time to play with fire.

Kind of like those in the left turn lane who do not get out in the intersection and turn when the light turns yellow, when they - and probably the care behind them - could have gone. They then sit through another red light cycle.

I get annoyed with drivers who seem to have no concept of how sensors in the street affect the timing of lights. In particular, if you're in the left turn lane, like from columbia parkway to torrence, and you don't keep up with the driver in front of you, the sensor will indicate that the left turn lane is clear, and change the left turn arrow red to allow westbound traffic to move. Keep up with the car in front of you and the light will stay green. If you're busy checking your blackberry and you leave a gap, that light turns red.

The same applies to drivers who are oblivious to the timing of lights in places like downtown where multiple lights are timed to allow for traffic to flow, but if you're spacing out, or looking for a spot without signaling your intention, you're screwing up the entire flow of traffic.

This seems like an appropriate place for George Carlin:

Have you ever noticed, when you're driving, that anyone driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone driving faster than you is a *maniac*?

Since we are b!tching about traffic:

People who squeeze in front of you to make an exit ramp then slow down once they are in position even though the exit is still half a mile away.

Not canceling on street parking during downtown roadwork making traffic narrow from 3 lanes to 1.

I'd add Norwood streetlight planners but I don't think they have any. Can anyone tell me why Frisch's has their own stoplight?

This is a big one for me. The on-ramp exists so that you can get up to speed before getting on the highway. Use it.

Anyone here from the westside of Cincy?

When people try to merge from River Rd/US 50 on the westside onto the S75 bridge to KY and they slow to 30 or come to a complete stop!!! Holy fuck, I'm gonna fucking murder someone someday for that. I almost get killed 3x a week because people can't figure out how to merge at 60-70 MPH coming off the half-circle ramp. It makes me RAGE.

That probably has more to do with the fact that the Waldvogel Viaduct is down to one lane, and it is a giant clusterfuck when it's operating normally. If I still worked downtown, I'd avoid that thing like the plague. We took it today to get to the Reds game and at 1130 it was still a backed up nightmare and no one seems to know which lane they need to be in to get on 75, 5th Street or 2nd Street. If there isn't an accident on that thing daily, then it's simply because of the grace of God. There is no way, unless there is no traffic, that anyone can build up any amount of speed on the viaduct when it's one lane, people are rubber necking like they've never seen construction before, and there are 4 exits within a few feet of each other.

Although, in general people just cannot drive. They're either just bad drivers to begin with, or they're too busy texting, reading, talking, preening, or any other number of things. We were out shopping at Kenwood on Saturday and it seems that for as much as eastsiders spend on their BMWs, Mercedes, and Land Rovers, they would get turn signals with them. We drive Hondas and both of our vehicles have them, but apparently when you start moving up the cost ladder, turn signals are either unavailable or just too pricey to add.

I know I ranted once about this in this thread, but people taking pictures/videos with cell phones at concerts.

The guy in front of me at the taft must have taken 50 pictures with his cell phone. He kept shaking his head because the pictures weren't in focus, so he'd try again. He messed with the settings over and over and just kept trying to take a picture.

Hey asswipe! You're taking a picture in a dark theater with a camera with a 2mm lens that phisically requires to you touch the screen hard enough to move the camera. It's not your settings.

The guy behind us kept taking pictures with his cell phone with the flash on. We were in the 12th row. That flash wasn't getting farther than 3 rows. All it was doing was annoying other people.

I miss no photography rules. It was distracting as hell. I actually thought about knocking the guy's phone out of his hand during the encore when he started recording a video.

Please, please explain to me when you are ever going to watch that shitty ass cell phone video of what was an awesome performance that you missed because you watched it on your cell phone.

People who go to the drive-through ATM and treat it like they're the only people in the world using the ATM. There is a middle aged woman driving a white Cadillac who is lucky to be alive right now because she spent at least 20 minutes at the ATM. I had enough time to back out of the ATM lane (after I waited patiently for 10 minutes), park, get my daughter out of her car seat, go inside, cash my check, let my daughter pick out a sucker, let daughter talk to teller, walk out of bank, put daughter back in car seat and then get in myself and drive away. White Cadillac woman was still there doing who knows what. And she wasn't elderly. We're talking 60 tops. Completely inconsiderate.

That one blows my mind. These dudes just call dibs on multiple machines and go back and forth like it's their personal gym. Sometimes I don't realize they're on one of the machines because they're doing sets on another one. They then come over and tell me that they're still using it. I would punch them in the face, but they're usually huge dudes because they lift so much.

You know what I do in these situations? Just keep working out.

Seriously what are they going to do? Fight me over the machine? A few months ago I told a guy I was almost done when I was in the middle of a set and he told me he was using it.

I finished. Asked him what his setting were, changed the settings for him, wiped down the machine (I work out in a gym that doesn't supply towels, and I am a minority in bringing my own) and walked away.

Guys who take charges in open gym.

When I pull off a miraculous sweet crossover on my defender leaving him in the dust, the last thing I want to see is some Swampy Meadows like guy slide in at the last second to draw a charge. Not only is the idea of drawing a charge completely ridiculous and absurd in open gym, but selling it with a Braveheart like yell is complete overkill. On top of this, the floor is now drenched with copious amounts of sweat. To me, it seems like it could be a FBI profiler serial killer trait.

Also, Mr. ref is annoying. You know who Mr. Ref is. He calls every travel, double dribble, touch foul, and a foul on the person guarding him everytime he misses. This guy is irrational and not shy about his irrationality. You block him, its a foul. You beat him off the dribble, its a travel or carry. He tips the ball out of bounds and blames you. There is not arguing with him because the outcome is predetermined. He would yell "And 1" on a wide open layup with all 5 defenders standing at half court

You can learn a lot about a person in open gym. Its almost like a window to their soul. A place where unbridled chaos can breed and fester and thrive with the ferocity of a PMI/Sweet 16 argument.

You do have some control on where your tickets are though. Try and move away from him next year. For this year, buy a few Xavier/NCAA tourney t-shirts (I think there is a Sweet 16 one from this year) and wear them to the games.

Tried to rep you but Muskie apparently is keeping all the reps to himself.

A pet peeve of mine is golf shirt collars. Not all collars, but the ones that get discolored at the "crease" after about 4 washings. Not only do they get discolored, the crease also becomes permanent, and no amount of ironing will straighten them out. Maybe it's just that I buy cheap shirts (I can understand an Old Navy shirt going bad), but it happens to nicer ones like Hilfiger, Adidas and Cutter & Buck shirts, too. I have no idea what causes this or if I'm the only one who this happens to, but it's annoying.

My next door neighbor's kids stand at the fence and stare in our yard like children of the corn. It's disconcerting. If their mother wasn't such a competitive, soul-sucking biotch, I'd have no trouble inviting them over to play in our pool/swingset/trampoline (because we do have an awesome yard for the kids and all the kids like to come over and play and Little LM loves having her friends over). However, this is the mother who has birthday parties next door and doesn't invite my kid or the kid on the other side of their house. She also talks about us to her kids (ages 5 and 3) and then her kids tell us these things when we used to have them over to play (which stopped when my daughter started asking "Mommy. Why does Morgan say those things about us?").

Why is she like this you ask? Well, in my professional opinion, she has a serious inferiority complex and also wide-ranging mental problems as far as I can tell. Her husband is nice, but she's a whacko. We were friends until I had a little girl and she just had little boys and told me she was jealous I had a girl and she was stuck with boys. This is what I'm dealing with here.

So, today we went swimming and I could feel her kids staring at us in the pool. I couldn't take it anymore and invited them to come over. However, their dad said "No. Because your mom would be hurt (what?!?!?) if you went swimming in their pool instead of playing in the sprinkler (yes, because a sprinkler is just as fun as a pool) she bought for you." I thought my head was going to explode. So, he turned on the sprinkler which they ignored in place of staring at us in our pool the rest of the time we were out there.:mad:

It's going to be a long summer.

Thanks for the tip. I try to keep the collars up when I put them in the laundry but I don't always remember. I can always blame it on my wife because she does the laundry but she and I both know that's not going to work.

You can blame her, but then you'll probably be doing all your own laundry. :D

Do you wear aftershave or lotion? Some have a bleaching effect on fabrics and the fold of the color would likely rub your face. But if it fades evenly along the fold, then popping while washing and storing is probably the best route.

I have had very good luck with Nike golf shirts not doing that. Same deal with Under Armour.

You can also buy the golf shirts that have collars that are stitched from the same material as the rest of the shirt instead of the 'traditional' collars which are a separate piece that is sewn on.

Luckily, I follow no one but my friend's business which is why I was on there in the first place - to help her get followers or whatever. Mostly, I hate twitter and have never twittered or tweeted or chirped or whatever the hell it's called. I'm merrily speeding thru the Florida Panhandle at the acceptable Trooper approved rate of 79 mph when someone inevititably pulls into my lane at a slower rate causing me to "CruiseBrake" (hit the brake while on cruise control) . Then I have to wait 10 minutes while the moron can't muster an extra 1 or 2 mph to pass the other bozo causing a high speed hwy blockage. Holy shit people! Did they stop putting mirrors on cars? I drove recently from Phoenix to Flagstaff in a rental car that had a totally inadequate amount of horsepower for said drive. People would pull out in front of me to get around a truck on a two lane highway through the mountains, and I'd have to slow down to avoid rear ending them. Then they would speed up, and I'm flooring this stupid thing to catch up, but by then, I'm the a-hole going 60 in the left lane of a 75MPH zone.

This isn't a pet peeve exactly, so much as it is a WTF moment.

Our phone rang Saturday at dinner time and it was a woman calling from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The conversation went like this (no kidding). . .

Diana from St. Jude: We have you on our list as being a frequent donor. St. Jude does lots of great things, blah, blah, blah. We would like for you to join our care program where you would make a donation of about $20 per month.

Me: No. I'm sorry I'm not interested in that. St. Jude does a lot of great work, but I'm not going to donate each month. I will however make a one time large donation, or make a donation now and another at the end of the year.

Diana: No. We don't want that. We want you to donate each month. You don't only pay your bills twice a year do you? No. You don't. Just like you get a paycheck each month to pay your bills we need you to donate each month so St. Jude can pay its bills each month.

Me: Is this call for real? Are you really from St. Jude?

Diana: Yes. I'm Diana so and so, and I'm calling about blah blah blah.

Me: So you're telling me you're turning down my donation because I want to make it all at once and not monthly?

Diana: Yes. We have bills we have to pay each month.

Me: Right. Well, I've got to go I've got people over and since my money isn't good enough for St. Jude you can go ahead and take me off your list. I don't want to receive anymore calls from St. Jude.

WTF?!?!?! What kind of charity turns down money? I feel like I'm living in bizarro world.

Lady my gut reaction is it was a scam call.

I thought so too. So I called St. Jude today to see what they said (using the 1-800 number on their website) because I do believe in their mission and if it was a scam, then they should know someone is scamming using their name. Turns out, sadly, it was real. They have a program called Partners in Hope where they get people to make monthly donations of $10 or up. They wouldn't verify that Diana worked for them, but they verified that I had received the call on Saturday. They also told me that that isn't how the call is supposed to go at all, and that they would check to see if there was a recording of it to use as "what not to do". The woman I spoke with apologized profusely and said they'd be happy with any amount anyone is willing to donate at any time. I don't want anyone to lose their jobs, but seriously that call was screwed up. I think someone was crabby that they were working at dinner time on Saturday. That problem might be rectified now.

Because many of those 17,000 customers get to the ballpark early to try to snag one of the bobbleheads and in the process buy concessions and merchandise before the game. Giving out less than a full house worth of the promotion might anger some people, but they still get there early and spend more than they would otherwise. And they still come back the next time, too. That said, I agree that it stinks. I only get there early if I really want something, but then I use the season ticket holders early gate to make sure I beat the rush. And I only live right down the street so I bring my own food.

Yeah, my tactic in those games is to go to Machine Room to eat. Opens three hours before the game and they do give you the premium item when they seat you.

So you get there way early, but you snag the item. Then you have a sit down lunch/ dinner. Then you go to the game.

Basically I would write and email to the two of them, with specific questions to the IT guy and the woman would write back, "I just spoke to Joe, and he said blah, blah.."

Men, who do not look like Ryan Lochte (swoon!) or Michael Phelps, but still insist on wearing Speedos is not only a pet peeve, but it's also gross.

And, not to betray the sisterhood (again), but just because they sell a bikini in certain sizes does not mean that it should be worn by a person who wears that size.

I try not to be overly judgmental (or so I tell myself), but if the beer gut is hanging over and almost completely covering the Speedo, or the extra baby fat is still hanging around over the string bikini, then perhaps you should look for another style bathing suit.

I'm a big proponent of everyone learning how to swim. That said, if by the third week of lessons (held for a half hour each day ) your son is still crying hystericaly throughout the lesson, perhaps it's time to throw in the towel for this summer. Give the teacher, other kids and other parents a well deserved break instead of just screaming at your son to stop crying and telling him to be more like his big brother.

I agree that parents shouldn't let their kid ruin everyone's experience just because they paid for something, but tossing a kid in the water isn't the answer. I have an aunt that was tossed into a lake by an uncle when she was a kid and is still traumatized today. As she continues to tell me every time I see her near water. Pretty soon I'll have trauma by proxy.

Which leads me to my recent pet peeve: people that dwell on the same negative stories for years and years.

I'm pretty sure if you threw this kid into the deep end, he'd drown or come damn close. He cries non-stop and screams when the teacher tries to take him away from the wall of the pool. When I posted my original post this morning, I think the kid almost hyperventilated and had almost climbed from the water to the top of the lifeguard/teacher's head. This kid is about 6 and I've never seen anything like it before in my life. He starts crying as they enter the gate to the pool. It's incredible.

In addition to his overwhelming fear of swimming, his mother is adding to his problems by saying things like "I wish you were more like your brother John. Do you see how great John is at swimming? John loves the water. Why can't you be like John and love the water too?"

Every time she opens her mouth I think to myself "You're going to make this kid's therapist a very, very wealthy person, and good luck getting little Matt to come around you when you're old and dying."

It'll be 4 weeks total when we're done, but it's worth it. She's not quite 4 and can swim the freestyle and backstroke fairly well for a 4 year old. She's desperate to join the swim team and cannot wait to learn how to dive. What's really cute (to me anyway) is that she's been watching the Olympic Trials so before she gets into the pool, she shakes her arms and legs like the pros do. Kinda funny to watch a preschooler performing Michael Phelps' pre-race routine for swimming lessons. I need to get it on video so I can embarrass her with it later in life :D

What the hell does that mean?

Me: "My grandpa just died. I have to go to Iowa tomorrow for the funeral."
Boss: "Oh, well, we'll send some good thoughts your way."
...
Me: "Uh, thanks."

Just let me pull out my good thoughts catching net and let's do this thing!

Really, why don't you just say: “I feel sorry for you, so here’s a trite expression of my pity that I know will be ineffectual in any way except by possibly giving you the feeling that I care about you.”

I mean, at least when people say, "I'll pray for you," they usually believe their prayers will in some way make an impact.

If you're worried about offending me by saying something of a religious nature then say, "I hope things get better for you and your family," or something like that.

"Sending good thoughts" just seems...empty.

After further consideration: Please don't think too many "good thoughts" about me. It's a little creepy.

It's also bizarre to me that the Chinese can be so dominant in this "sport". Are they training harder, training better, or do they have some sort of genetic advantage when it comes to doing something exactly like someone else. Maybe it's because they all look alike. (Kidding - calm down).

Announcers in general that say dumb stuff. During the men's 3M synchronized diving (it was on in the background) I heard the announcer say that very few people in the world were doing this particular dive.

It's freaking mens syncronized diving. Very few individuals in the world are doing any dives. It's a dumb sport. How many men compete in synchronized diving world wide? 1,000?

Great! I'll try that the next time I find the "TP Problem."

How about this one -------

Spouses who never answer the damn question you ask.

Example:

You: "Dear, it's your birthday coming up. What would be your dream birthday restaurant dinner together?"
Spouse: "Anything you choose will be ok. Just make sure you don't make reservations at (insert restaurant name #1) or (insert restaurant name #2) or (insert restaurant name #3)."

Observation: Don't you have to wonder how many other restaurants would not live up to spouse's "dream dinner together"? Also, If "Anything you choose will be ok" were really true, why did the birthday spouse specify some restaurants not to call? Will you ever be sure you made the right choice --- a problem you woudn't have had if you'd received a straight answer to your original question.

And when you ask questions such as, "What do you want for your birthday, Christmas, Anniversary, Mother's Day" etc. - you don't even get the 'what NOT to buy' examples leaving you totally hanging in the breeze.

I'm sorry but I've done that and I reserve the right to continue to do that. I do it with my friends too. I am the only truly non-picky eater in my family and social circle. Rarely has my first choice been suitable for all parties so I just quit having one. Particularly with my husband's limited palette we tend to visit the same few restaurants frequently so if I'm not in the mood for one, dang-it, I'm going to say it!

Now that tempers aren't flaring quite as much, I feel like I'm less likely to incur a lot of wrath by saying that a big pet peeve of mine is people writing or saying that Xavier (or anyone) "could care less". If Xavier could care less, then there is more caring left to be had and therefore there is hope. Whereas, if it is said and written properly as "Xavier couldn't care less" then that means that Xavier has zero regard for whatever it is we're talking about.

On the opposite side, I had a meal with another couple Friday night at 20 Brix in Milford. We arrived at 7 for our reservation and left just before 11. We never once felt rushed. It was the kind of service that makes you feel good about leaving a tip.

Peeing at a urinal next to a guy who has difficulty getting the stream going. Especially when they are grunting and breathing hard. That's just plain awkward, and it's a reminder that someday that could be me.

There's no real solution for it, but I don't like when it happens.
