The HBO special 90 minute COSTAS NOW shown Tuesday night. It will undoubtedly be rebroadcast several more times this week.
Please give it a look if you get the chance. It contains matter of interest to all of us.
Its scope was a little too broad for its time constraints, but it will be well worth your time.
This probably will be moved elsewhere, but I just put it here to get it seen initially:D

I second Q's recommendation. I thought it was a great show, and I did want more discussion on several topics.

Glow, speaking of recommended viewing, is that a new pic of Miss Muskie?

I got hooked on CARRIER on PBS last night... it follows the crew of the USS Nimitz through a tour in the Persian Gulf. Fascinating stuff. According to the PBS website it will repeat a lot. I suggest trying to catch an episode or two.

Oh, and BTW, the new Deadliest Catch episodes are now running on the Discovery Channel and the Stanley Cup playoffs on Versus are the best I've seen in years. Ditto for the NBA playoffs, especially the Hornets' games with DW and CP3.:D

Yep. ...and despite her rep, that is only OJ she is giving to the dog. She is trying to make room in her glass for the champagne, but at that time, it was only OJ. She tortured me and made me go to Panama City with her last weekend.

If we post here or other forums, are we bloggers? If so, Buzz Bissinger hates you and all you stand for: Buzz Bissinger fights away demons on a daily basis. (http://deadspin.com/385770/bissinger-vs-leitch) This also means he hates you golfitup and ledgewood and your awesome blog on Xavier basketball.

After this rant I now want to know who has a more f'ed up view of the internet, Buzz Bissinger or Sen. Ted Stevens from Alaska? My money is Bissinger but the series of tubes rant comes in a close second.

I loved the Costas show almost as much as I love Miss Muskie.

Bissinger is an idiot. I think there is validity to the allegation Reilly and his ilk compromise objectivity for access. Bissinger's press box defense was lame. He even recognizes the end is near. If one is so easily replaced then maybe one wasn't so valuable in the first place.

Thanks for the kind words BBC. I read Deadspin every day and for him to do that was just beyond comprehension. Not exactly surprising though. You could tell Will knew what was coming and I'm sure he knew that was probably going to come as soon he accepted the offer to be on the forum.

Newspapers will die because everyone from my generation has virtually no need for them. Until they figure out how to utilize the internet, they are going to keep dwindling in numbers. The Cincinnati Post folded less than two years ago right?

The big thing I dont get about journalists who say, "wheres the credentials of these bloggers?" is that of course we have no credentials. We are just fans who love sports and our teams who now have a place to express that to fellow fans on a much greater platform. Isn't that what "real" journalists do as well for the paper? It's not like they are former great players who know so much more about the games they cover than us. Oh, you get to sit courtside and get cliche answers to cliche questions after the game. Congratulations.

I love sports blogs. Deadspin, The Big Lead, Storming the Floor are all daily visits for me. I even like to go to Flyersfieldhouse and Peanutbutterflyers because they give me a pulse of the Dayton fan. I don't know any Dayton fans so I would have no idea what they were thinking at any time throughout the season. The sports blogosphere allows me to see the pulse of every relevant sports team in the country.

Done.

I had just watched that clip before making that post so I was being a bit harsh. Obviously, real journalists are needed, but they need to stop this arrogance of thinking they are so much better than the degenerate bloggers of the wolrd such as myself.

I just watched a part of the show and Bissinger is one crazy asshole. He seems pissed that other people are just as entertaining even thought they are unconventional in their methods. If he thinks blogs are so stupid and meaningless why does he care so much? If his writing is so superior why does he care so much? He cares because he realizes that his voice is not the only one around anymore. I do think that some blogs are crap and stupid, but the ones that are well done are usually very entertaining.
C. Trent Rosecrans just posted on his blog his reasons why newspapers are hurting now. His view is great because its truthful and he has written for a newspaper and knows firsthand. Its a good read.

All right, here (http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2008/04/internet-media-segment.html)is the full video of the bit from Costas Now. Two things stands out in the video. The obvious one is that Buzz Bissinger hates bloggers and everything about them.

The second is that Buzz hates proper chair posture. He prefers to slouch in his chair and just be an ass. Then again, there is no better way to come across as an ass than slouching in your chair with an air of arrogance.

Golfitup, have you had a chance to read Leitch's book "God Save the Fan"? If you haven't yet, go buy it right now, it's just like Deadspin but a little more in depth on topics.

Don't you know that sports should only be reported by ivy league educated east coasters from privileged backgrounds who went to boarding school. I didn't know arrogance translated so well on YouTube.

I'm glad he used vulgar language to show he could still come down to "our level."

I'm glad he used vulgar language to show he could still come down to "our level."

That's what I loved about the "discussion". Buzz (you are 50, drop the kid name) claims that blogs as a whole use crude language yet there he is cussing and using that same crude/dumb language that he is trying to say is "ruining" sports journalism.

Personally, I love blogs and love what they add to the sports world and the discussion within it. I read a lot of the same blogs golfitup does on a religious basis but still go to sports websites to get real news. The main thing sports writers in the MSM don't get is that fans as a whole are smart enough to get the satire and humor from blogs and seperate that from the fact that is there.

Bissinger claims that people like Will Leitch are dumbing down the future. Instead he and others like him should see that this is a new medium that provides an escape from what the MSM is trying to shove down our mouth.

Another argument that Buzz and his ilk try and make is that bloggers are an uneducated bunch that has no real life experience and in reality he couldn't be more wrong. Will Leitch of Deadspin was the editor at U of Illinois newspaper, Christmas Ape of Kissing Suzy Kolber used to write for the Washington Post (got fired cause he revealed his true identity and the Post didn't like it), and Ken Tremendous of firejoemorgan.com is a writer for the hit show the Office and has been published in SI, just to name a few prominant bloggers that have that real life experience.

So Buzz and the rest of the MSM that claims blogs as whole are bad, do your research. Read some of the better blogs out their. Learn to think rational about what is happening instead of acting on fear. Heck, talk to some of the people who read blogs and comment on them. You all might learn something new.

/End rant

I'm avoiding writing a paper for Media Literacy and this question just came to me. WKRQ, you have worked and written for newspapers and can be considered part of the old guard when it comes to media, so I ask, what do you think of blogs?

I say this jokingly but I will require your answer to be yelled at me while you slouch in a chair with no regard for decent coversation.

Home sweet home. THat is where I grew up (Sandestin area). However, my favorite saying now is a nice place to visit, but would never want to live there again.

I got sick and tired of tourists. Now I just prefer to be one.

You lose all credibilty when attacking someone who you think is glib and profane by being glib and profane.

I can see the part of posting pictures of Matt Lienert getting wasted, but really expressing an opinion and dumbing down something that isn't all that intellectually stimulating is pretty stupid to begin with.

I loved how Wilbon in that piece wanted to know how these bloggers get their credibility. Then on the second half, watching Michaels talking about guys on TV just screaming at each other, much like the show PTI, which made Wilbon and Kornheiser household names.

And speaking of Kornheiser, he proudly displays the fact that he knows nothing about most sports. So why is he on MNF? Where's his credibility there? It's the same stupid argument that people have that says non athletes should be in the booth doing games.

95, I am a golfer, and many of the courses in Sandestin are superb, so being a tourist is fine for me. When just doing beachy things, I go to Orange Beach because it is 2 hours closer.

Sheesh, and I have to admit that I agree with everything that DC said about the main topic.
