Is there a way to stop the board from automatically logging you out?

I would prefer to log in just once and leave it open all day.

It could be your search engine. I use Firefox, and in tools, I make sure that the history/signins aren't deleted when I close the window.

Also, you may want to have the 'Remember me?' box clicked on when you sign in.
