Taking off from the thread on the men's board, I just checked out the newest Rivals 150 for the 2008 class. Now, I understand rankings like this are to be taken with a grain of salt, but looking at A10 performance, it's a little disconcerting.
There are exactly 5 members of the top 150 headed to the A10:
42. Kenny Frease - C - Xavier
100. Terrell Holloway - G - Xavier
103. Mark Lyons - G - Xavier
108. Brett Thompson - C - St. Louis
139. David Gibbs - PG - UMass
I'm not one who has followed these sorts of rankings in the past, but that seems to be a disappointing number of highly-ranked recruits pulled in by the 7th ranked conference. Is that par for the course?

I have nothing to back this up but i would tend to think so. There are over 60 BCS schools and most kids are gonna be drawn to them over anyone else.

I think in a few years if our recruiting continues to make gains Xavier will be the Memphis of the A-10. Superior talent vs the rest of the league.

I haven't followed the rankings for that long either, but this seems about right. Even if some of these Rivals 150 players don't make it to places like UNC or UK, they still prefer the bigger conferences so they can play against the best. Typically, the Atlantic 10 only sees a handful of these types of players, with Xavier (and sometimes Dayton, GW or Charlotte) getting the lion's share.

Not that big of a deal. Actually Fordham had a guy in there as well but the big 12 only had 10 guys in the 150 and 4 of those guys are going to Kansas. There are only 150 spots available so The A-10 getting 6 is not really that bad. Considering Xavier has 3 of those guys shows that Xavier is getting it done.

JDM2000, Please add Jiovanny Fontan #148 (Fordham) to the list.
Rankings are not the end all it's what's accomplished on the court. The following is for numbers people.
By Comparison:
There are 150 in the Rivals top 150 (that was for Thor)
8 of which are uncomitted leaving 142 (that was for Thor also)
18 went to non BCS conf. leaving 124.
By Conference here is the breakdown:
SEC 32 2.67 per team
ACC 23 1.92 per team
Pac 10 22 2.2 per team
Big East 20 1.25 per team
Big 10 15 1.36 per team
Big 12 11 .92 per team
A10 6
Conf USA 3 (Memphis)
By my count there are 73 teams in the BCS conferences. Here is a list of BCS teams that didn't get a single top 150 recruit. (insert opinion here)(Yet some are considered high major in basketball because of their conference affliation) I have no idea if any one team had no schollies to give thereby putting themselves on this list.
Villanova
Marquette
Notre Dame
Providence
St. Johns
S. Florida
Illinois
Michigan
Northwestern
Penn St.
Colorado
Iowa St.
Kansas St.
Nebraska
Oklahoma St.
Texas Tech
Oregon St.
S. Carolina
Here is a list of BCS schools that recieved only 1 top 150 recruit. I have no idea if any one team only had one scholly to give thereby putting themselves on this list.
Boston College
Georgia Tech
Maryland
Miami
Virginia Tech
Pittsburgh
Rutgers
Seton Hall
DePaul
Indiana
Iowa
Baylor
Missouri
Texas
Arizona St.
California
USC
Only two non BCS teams had 3 top 150 recruits...Memphis and Xavier. Vitually all posters on Rivals main recruiting board who speak about non BCS schools consider Xavier to be the best only behind Memphis. There are alot of flamers who post there but on a national perspective Xavier tends to get alot of respect.
