If you remember, back in January IUPUI's Hunter went barefoot to coach a game in order to raise awareness and shoe donations for a charity called Samaritan's Feet. The charity hopes to raise 10 million pairs of shoes in 10 years for those that go barefoot in Africa. Hunter's hope was to raise 40,000 pairs of shoes but by the night of the game he had already raised 110,000 pairs. He is still planning on keeping to his words of delivering the shoes himself and will do so in July. To date, 150,000 pairs of shoes have been collected.

NCAA has been more cooperative now and is allowing him and his team to go over to Africa and deliver the shoes because of money that is raised to pay for their costs. I think that it is a great thing that the NCAA is allowing. Imagine the learning experience those players are going to get. A culture shock, a better sense of themselves and what privileges they have, and being able to do some charitable work.

More details and hopefully higher numbers of shoes to come later

Ron Hunter is involved in several worthy causes around Indiana. He's a very generous person.
