There is a line in Kenneth Grahame's wonderful children's book, “The Wind in the Willows,” that I couldn't get out of my mind, when the subject of T. Boone Pickens buying Travis Ford arose.
J. Thaddeus Toad has sold Toad Manor to a wily weasel and Toad's three friends, Ratty, Moley and McBadger are lamenting Toad's reckless action when they look out the window and one of them gasps, “I say, he bought him a motor car.”
I doubt old T. Boone, may be the best example of Jeff Foxworthy's “you might be a ......,” paid Umass former coach Travis Ford the $5-million to $6-million signing bonus augmented by an annual base salary of $4-million to $5-million he reportedly put on the table when he tried unsuccessfully to lure Bill Self from Kansas.
But you can bet Oklahoma State's version of Daddy Warbucks bought Ford for a helluva lot more than the $400,000 he was allegedly making at UMass (continue readin (http://www.xavierhoops.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4111)g).
