Farewell to a friend
by wkrq59

I did not know Brian McCormick. Like many of us on this board and on MM, I had never met him in person. I never had the privilege of buying him a drink at Dana Gardens. I never had the joy of laughing at his stories and swapping tales with him. And I am the lesser for that.

But I truly lost a friend when he died last week.

There are of course no words sufficient for me to eulogize the man I knew only as Pablo, who once told me I was “a voice of reason.” Attempts to console his dad, Dick. and the other members of his immediate and extended family would be woefully inadequate (continue reading (http://www.xavierhoops.com/forums/showthread.php?p=36043#post36043)).

Thank you for your beautiful tribute to my son. As the title of my posting states, the Irish have a terrible time being humble, but Brian, his brother Matt and I have to stand in silence and respect for the caring and sympathy that has poured forth to us from the Xavier Nation.

Today the President of the University con-celebrated, with three other priests that are dear to our family, the funeral mass of our boy and the 300+ people there were bonded into one family. Each of us were challenged to love our familes more deeply and to open our hearts more to others as Brian/Pablo had done in his life.

Any of you with children know how much you appreciate praise of them from others.
I can only bless you all for that that you have given our son.

People that have never been to Xavier told me today of the positive impression that the Xavier family made on them. One friend told me that her neice was considering other schools, but now she was going to speak with her about the attributes of Xavier and that she was going to attempt to influence her to select Xavier as her University of choice. Go X!

Every penny that Brian's mother and I spent on his and his brother's education at Xavier has been repaid with rebundance. Thank you for your kind tribute to our Brian and your Pablo.

Good stuff, Mr. Q. As always.

Thoughts and prayers are still with you and your family Mr. McCormick. Honestly, Brian has been on my mind a lot this entire week, and I never even met him. He had such an impact on so many people. I wish I could have been there today to celebrate his life with others from the Xavier family.

I did not know Brian as well as some of you. I shared a few drinks with him and saw him at games, but this week has been bad for me (just reading some of the stories and the obituary). I just can't imagine how you feel Mr. McCormick.
