1. Will likely be a close game
2. Dixon will get the ball late in the game for Nova
3. Who gets the ball late for us and will we melt down the stretch again?

Sean not being able to bring in a true Big East post player in the last two portals really stands out to me. He has to prioritize a Big East big in the summer or we should be looking for a new coach. Steele got ran out of town for less. Still think Miller is miles better than Steele as a coach but he isn’t showing why we are paying him the type of money he is getting.

If they had shot the 3 closer to their average, they would have lost. They were 10/25…that’s 40%. They also shot 19/26 for FT’s. That’s 73%

Heck of a comeback and Conwell was simply great at the end. A win in spite of all the warts like missed free throws that made another loss likely. The streak of empty possessions after Villanova miscues was frustrating to watch but they found a way to win which says a lot. The remaining games will call for more completeness that do not require last minute heroics. Should be an interesting ride.

Yes. That performance makes it clear my concern was unfounded. I mistakenly misread his body language shown in the Georgetown/St Johns games. It appears it was nothing more than a momentary lapse of confidence.
No one could be happier with that performance than me....Conwell and Swain are solid All BE candidates for '25/26....if Miller can keep them.
It doesn't change a damn thing about the NIL/Portal poison potential. Until proven otherwise....Xavier will always be susceptible to more Des Claude disappointments.

I don’t really think that’s likely, but maybe another 50% 3 point night could do it. I think it’s more likely we win at St. John’s, then home against UConn. Then it can get interesting.
I don’t see either happening, but I think they can snag one of the next 3. Won’t move the needle too much in terms of hope but it keeps the season barely alive, much like tonight. Losing tonight would’ve been final nail. Doesn’t make me more hopeful but at least there’s still slight optimism

For money or other reasons doesn’t matter, it still is a disappointing loss. And that will happen again- but it’s more bc of free transfer rule than money. Would solve a lot of “issues” having to still sit out a year

Hate it. I left work early today and still didn’t see the tip-off. Actually, I was in the building for tip-off, but was still in Duff’s finishing my dinner of a Quatman’s cheeseburger, since with the early start I don’t have time to eat at home. There will always be empty seats at tip-off for 6:30 games.
Maybe when I eventually retire, I won’t care since I’ll be able to leave with plenty of time to spare. Until then, hate the 6:30 starts.

It was unfortunate that both Marquette and St John’s games were during Christmas break. I usually work until 530/6 and it’s a major struggle to get to Cintas by 630. But despite missing the first 2-3 minutes each game I’d rather the game start at 630 vs 830. The old 7pm starts were great.

Not really…you were partially correct. If we just look at the 1st half both of your observations are correct. If you just look at Free, he was 0/3 on his 3point attempts. And, both he and McKnight missed 2 FT attempts during the game, 4/6 and 2/4 respectively…6/10 combined.
Xavier shot only 40% for field goal attempts for the game, as it appeared that there was a lid on the basket for almost everyone other than Conwell. Especially in the 1st half. If everyone shoots at their normal pace for the whole game, X might win fairly easily, but that’s just part of the game. ‘Nova didn’t score nearly what they normally do either.

Put a winning product on the court, and you will have no problem with attendance. This may be considered a “fair weather” fan base by some, but people have busy lives and do not have the time/desire to watch mediocrity.

No doubt in my mind that the weather conditions are also a major factor on attendance. Especially for older fans or fans attending with young children cold and snowy conditions make attending evening games much less enjoyable.

Has little to do with attendance. Attendance is mostly fine. It has everything to do that without the students, the atmosphere has been shit in that arena.
I get people not being able to get there on time during the week or not being able to attend at all. What I don’t understand is attending and sitting on your hands which I have seen a ton this year.

Nobody needs to make “excuses” to you or anyone else. You choosing to drive over from Indy is your choice, nothing more. Others choose to do something different with their time and money. Nobody needs to apologize for how they choose. That some people choose to not go out in weather doesn’t need to be justified to anyone. They shouldn’t be shamed for it, and it doesn’t make you and your friends superior to them either. Get over yourself.

It’s fine if you choose to not go to the game or can’t because of prior commitments. Life happens and everyone is busy. However, it takes very minimal effort to then either sell or giveaway your tickets to an x fan. It seems a lot of the late folks or the ones not getting there are mostly high donor lower bowl people right behind the benches. It’s kinda shitty imo.

I don't think fans are at this point yet. This is not a fair weather fanbase.
This lack of fans at 6:30pm is mostly operational. As I've mentioned a bunch of times, if you're going to play at 6:30pm on a weekday, and you still haven't really fixed the parking and ticket scanning fiasco, then a whole bunch of people aren't going to be in their seats at tip. That was fully evident again last night. It filled up slowly after that.
Thousands of people are stuck having to get to the games late because of stupid start times and ignored issues with parking and ticket scanning upon entrance. Some of this is squarely on X, and they are acting like it's not a thing.

As much as I like getting home earlier, the 6:30 start time has been tough for whatever reason. What’s everyone’s thoughts a couple years into that time slot?
They've had 6:30 start times pretty much since joining the Big East. I wonder what will happen next year as more games not only get streamed on Peacock, but also end up on Turner (TBS/TNT/TruTV).

That’s not just a Xavier/Cintas problem either. I’ve had it happen in other arenas/stadiums too.
I haven't had many issues personally because I usually leave home 90 minutes prior to tip to get an early parking space, etc.
I also had no trouble getting through the lines for the DePaul game on Saturday. Of course, that may have had more to do with fewer fans going to their games...

But the parking and ticket issues weren't issues all those years either.
They've created this problem with the parking changes. If you can't get to the game 45 mins early (which obviously many people can't for 6:30pm games, because, you know, people have to work), it's an extra 25-30 mins getting in the door. That's why no one is in their seats at tip anymore.
The parking situation is the main culprit.
It's not just Cintas. I volunteer at a hospital with a Butler season ticket holder. She told me @ their last home game, her brother in law drove around for 30 minutes trying to find a parking spot. Gave up and drove home.

I gave my tickets away last night because I knew I wasn't going to be able to leave until around 6pm. Any other year, I could leave 30 mins prior and be in my seat at tip.
Leaving at 6, I would have just been super frustrated sitting in stand-still traffic waiting my turn to be waived into my lot. It would have pissed me off to no end, and I would have been 30 mins late to the game. So instead of dealing with all that, I gave my tickets up. That's the reality the changed parking situation has caused.
And I'm as die hard as they come. I don't just skip games for no reason typically.

But it didn't used to be this way. It has NEVER been an issue.
Their operational changes created this problem for their fans, and it seems to be "oh well, deal with it". Not cool, especially if you're going to schedule a bunch of early weekday games.
Ample amounts of parking isn't the problem, the new flow is.

You had no way of knowing, but it turns out sitting in traffic would have been preferable to watching the first half, and you'd have still been able to see the second half. Little did anyone know they were actually doing you a favor!

How many people need to say Des left because his inner circle wanted him to play point guard and Sean told him/them NO. We didn't lose Des because we couldn't afford him. PLEASE f!@#ing STOP!!!!
You're shouting into a void with this one. Hett and some others will state anything as fact to fit their narrative, despite the evidence.

The start time isn't a problem for me and it allows my young kids to attend more games (my 5yo boy came last night and is very into the games), however, despite leaving with plenty of time I didn't get to my seats until 13 mins left in the 1st half because of the absolute shit show parking. I came in the back the way I normally do and whoever was directing traffic was doing a horrific job.
I hadn't has any issues the last couple games (I missed last home game) but last night the parking guys were horrific again. This new company seems to be doing an absolute shit job.

I wonder if the same parking company was contracted by both schools. I last went to Butler 2 years ago because it took me forever to get into their parking garage (wait was about 25-30 minutes). I just chalked it up to poor planning on my part at the time; didn't see the first 4 minutes of the game where Xavier peed down both legs.
And then it took an hour to get out of the garage, adding insult to what was already a bad night.
I will be going to Philly in a few weeks for the rematch with Nova; I'd imagine they'll at least have a more professional staff with the game being at Wells Fargo and not the Pavilion.

They tried something new - fine.
It's not working, yet they don't seem to care. And then the coach and others start to comment on empty seats???
Cmon man - this isn't the fan's doing. Perhaps someone should actually give a legit effort into fixing the problem, especially for the early weekday start times where it can be logistically impossible for working people to leave early enough for this to not be an issue.

Its not only the new flow.. its the digital parking passes that take too long or dont scan at all. The hanging placards were fine and so much quicker, couple that with the flow changes, its terrible.

I went to the NKU-UC game last month. I literally live 5mins from the NKU campus. I left home 30 mins before the game and didn’t get to my seats until 15mims after the game had started. The parking people…..local/campus police directing traffic….had no idea what they were doing. A complete s*** show. I could have walked there faster. I’ve had similar problems getting into, and especially out of, Riverbend Music Center. 10 mins from my house and I usually leave 1-1 1/2 hours before any show. Went to the UC-Kansas game last weekend (c’mon, how often do you get a chance to watch a blue blood like Kansas in person?). Got in fine. Took me over 1/2 hour to get out of the garage. Literally sat in place without moving for 25 minutes.
Parking seems to be a problem almost anywhere I go that has a big crowd.

But again, this was never a problem at Cintas! It's not like Xavier is bulldozing the parking lots and there's nowhere to park.
Everything is the same, and THEY CREATED the issue. Don't blame the fans for not showing up on time. How about fix the problem.

Agreed. They can’t fix the problem by changing the start times because TV dictates that, but they certainly can change how the parking operates.
Maybe everyone should email Christopher and cc Miller that parking is a massive shit show.

I would be shocked if people haven't done that.
I will also say that the sections that have the most empty seats are the most expensive tickets. I'm guessing those people aren't happy.

Does anyone know how many parking spaces, if any, will be lost to the Med School?

That number would be zero, at least post construction.

This part of the thread is about why attendance is bad. So now you respond to me making excuses as to why people can do other things with their time. If you’re a fan and have tickets make an effort to go. If not fine don’t go at all. But don’t make excuses for fair weather fans.

You see things as excuses that I see as reasons. Very judgmental on your part IMO. I prefer to not judge and just look at causes without any prejudice. I don’t really think that what efforts you make to get to the games has any bearing at all. Especially on those that don’t make the same effort. You telling them on this board that they need to not make “excuses” brings to my mind the picture of an old man standing outside yelling a clouds. You telling ME what I can and cannot say, I can only shake my head about. Very sad.
