The only reason I was fixated on it was because x was on the bubble or in it. I care…. I care that x isn’t even a consideration for it at this point. It matters imo
Yes. At THIS point. Do you still care that X wasn’t ranked in Week 3? Are you still happy that X was ranked in Week 4? Or, have you not thought about it at all for well over a month now?? Being ranked in November does nothing for you if you’re not good enough to stay ranked. Not being ranked in November does nothing to set you back if you’re good enough to eventually play your way in. Take Oregon for instance. In the 4th week of the season they were nowhere near the poll, but no one thinks about that now. Many people think of them as having been in the top ten all season long. That’s always intrigued me. I don’t know why, but it has. That’s really the only reason I point it out.

Utah State is damn good. They have just one loss, and it was at home to UC San Diego, who is also damn good!
Two great stories this year that are sort of under the radar…
1) Drake inching closer and closer to the top 25 as one of the few unbeaten teams with a roster and staff that was predominantly not even D1 a year ago
2) UC San Diego, who in their first year after completing the transition to D1 is on an absolute roll and may get inside the bubble come March.

Not that we should throw too many stones, I guess, but misery does love company!

I just think it’s funny they think they are good. They are an average team with a beefed up w-l record due to their garbage schedule. I think they’ll be lucky to win 6 games in conference

Yeah, to win in Olean, NY at all is pretty damn impressive.
As far as SLU, there is zero reason that school shouldn't be at the top of the a-10 every single year. They have really underachieved for their entire history, but especially since entering the A-10.
They are centrally located in a decent recruiting base, good resources and great facilities compared to the rest of the teams in their league.
Schertz should do well there, but who knows how long he'll stay.

Not a basketball town. I’d say recruiting is not any better or worse than any number of similar cities of that size in the Midwest. I could name 8-10 cities just like St.Louis. But people don’t really care about basketball in general. Of course SOME people do, but broadly speaking the interest just isn’t there

I grew up there, and I'd disagree with you. Yeah Cardinal baseball is one and Soccer is 2 especially at the youth level, with hockey and bb at 3 but people care about basketball. The amount of high d1 college basketball players and NBA players recently that have come up there is pretty strong.

Yeah I grew up there too. And I’m saying it’s not a basketball town. That’s relative to cities like Cincy, Indy and Louisville.
Soccer is a HUGE deal in STL. It has displaced basketball in a sense.
Interest just isn’t broadly high in StL about basketball. The fact that Tatum and Beal and a few other guys are from there doesn’t just translate to excitement for SLU. This discussion is about why SLU is t more successful and it’s at least partially due to general apathy about the sport in St. Louis

To me more importantly is that I think SLU has made a lot of bad coaching hires in its past that has kept them from what I think they should be able to achieve, especially vs who they are currently competing against.
Since joining the A-10:
Brad Soderberg? Yikes.
Rick Majerus---started to really get some traction and would have really kept it rolling...
Jim Crews---horrible hire. Kept it going with Majerus' talent for a bit but then the bottom fell out.
Ford---mediocre as they come and held onto him for way too long.

So what you're saying is that St. Louis has had more NFL teams move away than good coaches.
And Xavier did get swept by a Soderberg-coached team, BTW. That was definitely a lowlight in the 2005-06 season.

Texas loses at home to Tennessee. Texas has a lot of talent, but they are horribly coached. No half-court offense at all. The SEC is really good and deep this year. It will not surprise me if Texas finishes towards the bottom of the SEC this year. Texas fans online seem to hate HC Rodney Terry and know that he is not the guy. Will be interesting how that plays out.

Tonight, on just a regular Tuesday night, there are three SEC games that feature teams that are ranked in the top 15.
I know the SEC will eat itself a little but, but it's crazy to think that we may see multiple teams from the same conference end up as protected seeds that don't even bye into the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.

Loss to Michigan - it was the players and assistant coaches fault.
Loss to Maryland - it was the officials fault, so naturally YTG got ejected early

Louisville was such a tire fire that had Kelsey managed to just turn it into a dumpster fire people would have been happy that at least the fire had changed. He's done amazingly well. I know he used the portal, but still.
I kind of enjoyed watching Louisville suck. I was a huge Louisville fan growing up, but any connection I ever felt to them went away over 20 years ago. Anyone who thinks they're as awesome as Louisville believed themselves to be needs to have a few consecutive four win seasons to bring them back down to Earth. But now that they're good again, it's kind of fun watching them get good again.

Dayton is terrible. They've lost four out of five to teams that are NIT-ish at best, and UMass isn't even a top 250 team. They have been channeling their inner Enron since the big win against Marquette. It's actually quite astonishing.
UC isn't bad, but they are in a conference where pretty much everyone is better than they are. I'm putting the legit over/under at 5 for the number of conference games they'll actually win.
Truth be told, X probably isn't a tournament team either, but I think they have a better chance than Dayton or UC at this point.
Now, Miami OH on the other hand.....
