Two kids left for college. One left. He’s always out. That leaves the wife and I and our two pups. Smoking flower has been impossible for the last 20 years…now it’s not. And boy are we taking advantage…

So….got to having some high thoughts. Enrollment at X is down. Too expensive. My son would have loved to have gone there. But his rationale, at 15 was, “why spend $65K a year when I can go to Miami for $30K?” Hard to argue.

Which leads me to…Sean Miller has to be X’s hottest commodity. And he is in the lower half of Big East coaches in the Big East in terms of pay? Kids come to X to be coached by Miller. This latest kid who committed came to be coached by Miller.

Pay this man. He literally is X at this point. Kind of embarrassing what they pay him.

I don't think X is in a very good position to pay Miller a lot more. Maybe I am missing the value of being in a lot of debt with enrollment down too.

I thought x was paying miller, middle of the road be money? Honestly, I don’t think miller at this point in his career cares about his pay much. Hes made more than he will ever need or want. He cares a lot more if x is making investments in the program nil or otherwise to remain competitive

One of my friends recently had their father move in with him while his mom was in the hospital for an injury. He kept finding his dad trying to sneak smoking weed in his basement. His dad would also borrow his car and return it with no gas. All my friend could think was "is this is what it was like living with me in High School?"

Pro tip. Ignore the sticker price. You can go to X for under $30k.

Also, I visited Miami during my college hunting days, and it sucks.

My brother-in-law works for Miami so I occasionally hear stories about their operation and dealing within the county. Butler County seems about the worst place to send your child to grow and expand their mind. They paid him a ton to move from Colorado to work there but he's already seeking other opportunities after less than two years.

But regarding Miller. He earns a very good living, and considering his situation he was glad to take what they offered. Plus, his staff is better compensated than past head coaches had, which is a bonus for the program. It was a good spot for both sides to grow from. His salary isn't going to mean squat to how many kids enroll. Whether the cost is 30K or 60K today's graduates are looking at college as less of a good investment. The more expensive schools are getting even more scrutiny about what advantages they really give a person going into building their career.

Miller's contract reflects more of his toxicity in the college basketball environment than his coaching acumen. He also just had a sub .500 record and first round exit from the NIT. Pump the breaks a bit, but that said when he is successful again and he will be, the school will pay him accordingly.
