The Big 12 will change its name to be the "Amazon 12" or "Pepsi 12" or "Pizza Hut 12" or whatever.

literally.....

Any.Fucking.Thing.For.A.Buck.

And they are taking investors! Will they go public?

Capitalism at its finest. What’s wrong with that? Can’t wait for the Big East Jeep Conference announcement soon.

It's genius and the kind of thing Val should be doing or done already

I'm assuming you've had the same issue with the on campus arena being named Cintas for the last 24 years?

I'll have to know more before I form much of an opinion on private equity investing in college sports....but sponsorship and ownership are two pretty different things.

no.

But I dont want teh conference to be called the BigMac East.

And i dont want Private equity involved. WTF?

Private Equity means that they will buy a "stake" in the conference and the members will all get some windfall. Then each year when the conference "makes money" the Investors are going to expect their share.

Have you ever worked at a company owned by PE? they dont give 2 shits about the long term outcome. They are thinking about turning that investment over as soon as possible for as much as possible.

on a practical note, does the Big 12 think this will "shorten the gap" between them and the SEC & B1G?

Those conferences are just going to go out and do the same thing but for twice the money.

this might be the rapture for college athletics.

One thing this would seemingly do is handcuff schools to conferences for a certain period of time. Can't take the PE money and run.

In a classic PE pump and dump situation, sure. However, I worked for and with PE firms that provide permanent capital to companies and place them on their own balance sheet. There are different models of PE acquisition and retention.

Meanwhile, our commissioner is working on MAX and Peacock deals, writing mean letters and speaking to NCAA committee members about how to get teams in the tourney.

You have seemed unusually irritable the last several weeks. Are you off your meds again?

This idea occurred to me a long time ago and therefore thought it was only a matter of time. I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. I guess it's no surprise that Brett Yormark is the first to do it.
