I know many do not want Xavier to play in the NIT but Xavier was selected and accepted a bid to the NIT.

They will play Georgia who is the 4 seed. I guess at Georgia since X is not seeded.

Seton Hall is the top seed playing St. Joes.

Providence is the 3 seed playing Boston College in the same region as Seton Hall.

I actually love the NIT for matching us up with arch-rival Georgia!

Totally shocked by this! A pleasant surprise that they got in and it’s even better that they didn’t match them up with UC in the 1st round!

Indiana State a 1 seed.

Butler a 4 seed playing a Minnesota and our old buddy Ben Johnson.

UC the 2 seed in Butler and Indiana State region.

Villanova the last 1 seed playing VCU.

Same. Easily the best part of X accepting a bid.

Is the streak winning record or .500 or better record?

If just non losing record we need to win 3 games. Winning record we need to win 4.

Xavier is 16-17, so 2 wins would clinch at least .500 and 3 wins would clinch a winning record.

As far as common opponents go, Georgia lost by 7 against Providence back in November in the Bahamas and also beat Winthrop by 9.

Their only wins of real note were by 2 at Florida State and 5 on the road at South Carolina.

I should also add that Quincy gets to play close to home in this matchup at Georgia.

I think Pitino understands the bigger picture. Get to the off-season, figure out the priorities and attack hard. I assume the only reason X isn’t doing the same is because the guys on the team wanted to play more. That’s fine, hope they have fun and enjoy it.

The only positive memory I have from our last NIT run was a guy wearing a brown paper bag at the first home game over his head. My buddy went on to say that was the final straw and Steele was fired before the next game. Lol

The freshmen could definitely use a little more game experience. At least the freshmen that are still healthy at this stage.

Still waiting; guessing either Tuesday or Wednesday will be the day.

It was the same way two years ago when X won the NIT, but the major change here was the elimination of auto-bids from regular-season champions from lower conferences. X would have never sniffed the NIT otherwise.

I don't think that is it. I think Pitino really didn't like his team and doesnt want to coach them anymore. He made it pretty clear.

Miller, Holloway, English, Matta, and Neptune (well maybe Neptune) aren't idiots. They wouldn't play if they thought there was any chance it sets them back in recruiting for next year.

Tom Crean (who I am not a fan of) said it well imo. The staffs are bigger than ever, there is plenty of time to recruit, work the portal.

UGA will be getting a public bath and meet and greet walk that day in Athens, so we should expect attendance at this basketball game to be < 3,000.

Mind you, this is the same Tom Crean who pulled IU out of the NIT one year so Indiana could start "renovations" at Assembly Hall one year.

I'm all for more basketball, but honestly shocked X accepted. Not becuase we are too good for the Not In Tournament (NIT) , but rather the amount of injuries we have had. Sometimes you just lick your wounds and go home

There were also 6 teams (St. John's, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Indiana and two others) that declined NIT invites. They had to invite near .500 teams just to fill a 32-team field.

That is where we differ from St John’s which is an old team. So playing does not get their squad much experience.

Hilarious how everyone suddenly jumps on the NIT bandwagon. Like we’ve come to grips with the season, anger has subsided, and resignation has settled in. At least we’ve got more X bball to watch.

IMO it’s a complete waste of time especially when half the roster probably won’t even be here in November. However,
I bet Quincy wanted to play, so whatever he wanted is fine with me.

Yesterday I didn’t expect X to be in the NCAA or the NIT, and I really didn’t care much either. But after watching the BE get hosed by the NCAA selection committee and totally disrespected, today I have a different feeling. I want all of the BE schools in either tournament to play with a chip on their shoulders. Go out and show the NCAA and the rest of the talking heads that BE basketball is the best in the country. Kick Ass and take names! Today I’m pissed off! I can think of nothing better than to have two or three BE schools in the final 4 of both tournaments and to have 2 BE schools in the finals of each. Let’s go X! And Let’s go BEast! Release the Kracken!

Really 3 things of benefit.. young guys gain more experience. We have a chance to extend our non losing season streak, and Quincy needs 2 3's to set the single season mark..

Revisiting this, bc I saw this mentioned on twitter, IU actually participated in the NIT but refused the home game. It was the AD, not Crean who decided that and IU said it wasn't about renovations but not devaluing Assembly Hall, which is hilarious.

Unless you are speaking on a different year.

I may need more coffee...but, if we are at 16-17 don't TWO more wins put us at 18-17...a winning record?

Also, whether the team plays in the NIT should not be up to the coach. Should be a players' decision.

Yes, but if we only win 2 more then that means we lost the 3rd one and we are back to .500.

Only the top 16 teams are actually seeded. What happens if both seeded teams lose their opening games is anyone's guess.
