Who is the better one year transfer? Asked this questions to several friends, seems to be split down the middle.
Boum helped X to a 3 seed but imagine Quincy with Hunter and Free. Can Quincy will this team to the tourney??

As good as Boum was offensively, he was horrid on d. For that reason, I’ll take olivari.

Situations are much different. Q would’ve thrived last year, too. I’m not sold that Boum could on this years team. It’s a damn shame Freemantle went out last year, because I think they had a final four type run in em if healthy. They did beat the national champs twice.
Sounds weird but if I could pick between the two I’d always go Q. If we can’t find a way to make the tournament, boum is the better transfer.

I think there is a serious YTD component to this. As good as Boum was, and he was, his end-of-season fade was hugely disappointing, If Olive can avoid the same fate, and, as Xav stated, make the tournament and then do something, it would be a slam dunk - or maybe a three pointer.
Just making the tourney itself seems a huge expectation at this point. Unfortunately, I will likely forget that and be upset if they do not go on.

Olivari affects this current squad more with his defense, scoring and rebounding. Both are excellent shooters but I also will take Olivari.
How about McKnight? Would you take McKnight over Kunkle or Boum? I would.

I would to because again he is more of a complete player than either of those two. You put this backcourt on last years team, and x is a final four team imo.

I'd take Olivari.
Similar offensive stats so far . . . both have Big East talent/skill . . . but Olivari has a Big East body and Boum did not. (6'3" 200 lbs v 6'3" 175 lbs)

The dude gave everything he had all year and was running on fumes. He averaged over 35 minutes a game and played and started in all 37. All at 175 lbs soaking wet.
There was nothing disappointing about it.

I'm not saying it was unjustified. we would not have been in that position in the first place without him. It was not meant to be disparaging about Boum at all. But it was absolutely disappointing.
I loved cheering for Booooooooooom all year.

To be fair to Boum, a lot of guys had to play extended minutes last year because of a very short bench at the end of the year. I'm not going to hold that against him.

One would think his 157 assists has to factor in, right? Olivari sits at 34.

Only to an extent as Boum was a PG with the ball in his hands. On the other hand you discount Olivari’s rebounds as he is a SG who is bigger. It is like comparing Olivari and McNight on those two data points. That is the problem with taking individual stats from players with different positions and roles. Have to look at the totality.

Is that over 5 years?

Different players, pretty close to equivalent impact.
Last year's team was better, which gives Boum a slight edge.
Olivari on last year's team would have given us Final Four potential. A 3 guard rotation of Boum, Colby and Olivari would have been niiiiiiiice.

There is no real difference in rebounds between the 2 players. Souley grabbed 158. QO will likely exceed that, but it's going to be close.
Boum scored over 600 pts, will double QO in assists, was a cold assassin from the line on a S16 team.

My immediate and gut reaction is Olivari.
Boum was great and he saved many Xavier games with his ability to hit clutch free throws in the closing minutes but Olivari feels like a better all-around basketball player.

Yep. Nothing against Souley, he was a great player for X on the offensive end, but Olivari contributes on both sides of the court in multiple ways. Souley had so much trouble keeping his man in front of him which lead to defensive breakdowns on the backend too much. Big reason why our Kenpom D this year is in the thirties while last year it was in the 60s.

Yep. One of the pet peeves I have is everyone saying how bad our bigs were on D after help defense was off. They looked bad a lot but a good amount of it was bc boum got blown by and left them scrambling so much.

For me at this point is Boum, purely for the fact of the elation that team brought us after the prior 4 years of despair. I think Q is certainly a more well rounded player and I love his attitude and willingness to give back to the community. I am glad both have become part of the X legacy.
