View Full Version : Free & Hunter
There are rumors from inside the program that Free & Hunter will not see the floor this season. Free's foot has had a setback, and Hunter's heart episode evidently will not let him resume this year. No personal knowledge from me, just read it on another site.

This came up in another thread a few days ago. Certainly wouldn't be shocking, especially given the roster moves late in the off season. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Not surprised. Hope for hunters sake that he is ok in his daily life.
I hope that at some point free can be healthy, but feet and big men are a bad combo.
There’s been way too much smoke for this not to be the case, or at least would not be surprised in the least.

Disappointing, to say the least. Hoping for miracles.

Bummer for sure, but the recent additions certainly telegraphed what might be coming. I'd prefer if those guys were available, but i do like this roster construction now that we've added the Euro bigs that can shoot.
This team now has ONE returning player that contributed last year.

This probably explains why were second place in the BE last year, and there are 5 BE teams in the current ESPN top 25...and we're not one of them.

And a returning head coach that will make it all work

Honestly I'd be super bummed for both of those guys most first and foremost, like I couldn't imagine not getting to play your last year, would be insanely frustrating.. secondly, I guess we'll just have to see what happens, not the best of news to log in to see.. as Muskiefan82 said, gotta trust Sean Miller to make it work out, which I fully do.

Yes, this season will rise or fall on Miller's ability to build these guys up, buy into his system and get them to work together. He'll need to earn his keep this year.

It’s not life defining….but it is something that does stick with you. You always play the “what if?” in your mind, especially when senior night rolls around every year.

We're gonna struggle on the offensive end, esp in the paint.
We need some offensive production from some post players. Would be nice if Nung was still around.

So Nzeh and Lazar lead the freshmen hype as they have a great amount of talent but need 2 years of experience before being all BE.
Ousmane looks like he is in the lead for minutes as center.
We will likely need Duncomb to throw his weight around.
It will be a very interesting year with Miller balancing all these 11-12 newcomers. I suspect the Purdue game could be ugly.

The headline of the article is "Potential Loss" of Free and Hunter.
The first sentence after the intro says:
Xavier Basketball suffered a huge blow earlier this week after it was announced that stars Zach Freemantle and Jerome Hunter would both be out for the entirety of the upcoming season.
A little confusing.

Talk about confusing, the author also names four guys we lost to graduation and the NBA, but they are not all in the NBA. He also talks about Claude as a senior. I just stopped reading.

Boum and Jones are in the NBA. Kunkel is in Kazakhstan. Nunge is in Italy. I think that line is fair.
Calling Claude a senior is just sloppy.

It’s not the NBA, so it’s inaccurate and misleading. That is almost equally sloppy, IMO. Let’s just say, I won’t be taking his word for anything.

I haven't read the article, but Nunge/Boum/Kunkle did graduate and Colby is in the NBA

Poor guy, hope this one fixes it, I really wonder what exactly the issue is I haven't really looked into it, wonder if it's something that MAYBE just MAYBE he could come back this season from?

Man, when I sat in the arena and watched us get shellacked by Creighton, I had no idea I might be witnessing the end of Free's playing career.

I too am still hanging on the tiniest of hope that Zach can do one more season and leave on a NCAA final 4 appearance. He deserves that with all his talent and competitive juices.
