Today's competition not too bad. Earned a 1 seed in the Canadian version of the Elite 8 this past season.....will feature 4 of 5 returning starters.

Agreed on the development thing, but major knee surgery really isn't something you can 'power through'.

The Canadian team is better than expected. About the only first half observation I can offer is that, so far, it doesn't appear the shot clock will be a limiting factor for this team.

Interesting first half:

I'm only half watching and doing some work, but observations:

-Claude looks good. Tough going to the hoop and really good in the mid range.
-Olivari and McKnight have both shown flashes of being very good. Very competent starting 3 guards
-Big men have been solid. Nzeh does have serious athleticism, but feel like he won't play a ton this year. Ousmane looked solid but seemed to tire. Duncomb moved well and looked decent...maybe he will surprise and get some minutes.
-Trey Green is going to be a joy--especially if we get him for 4 years. quick. handles. can shoot.

Meh or negatives:
-game has a real pick up game feel. Not sure anything about the club is clear from this
-deep shooting will not be a strength--maybe like last year...good percentage at low volume
-announcer talked about how Swain is known for his ballhandling (at his height) and he had two TERRIBLE dribbling moments (I think they were both him)
-defense? we'll see

Hard to say in a game like this.

If Zach and Jerome are back healthy, I think we're fine. Without them, we're very, very young.

There's also no way alot of these guys are going to get minutes. Will be interesting to see who cracks the top 8-9.

Agree on Trey Green, but he's gonna have a tough time guarding Big East guards. But he's got game.

Hard to tell from a game like this but about what I expect from this upcoming year… good guard play… actually, really good guard play and I think Claude will be a draft pick either this year or next.

If free and hunter aren’t both full go, the frontcourt is yikes.

I was extremely excited about Green when he committed. Thought he had real potential to be something big for X. Not afraid of the movement, can be a real leader. The excitement dropped a little with the transfer portal etc. and thinking it would cause him to have to work his way into rotation and be a regular in a year or two. He still won’t see the time I was hoping for but he will be a solid rotation guy year one.

This style of play sean has brought is really beneficial for (especially) guards and wings. Opens the floor and lanes up to let them really shine. As the years go on it’s only a matter of time until we start bringing in big time players because of the system.

It seems to get tougher every year! Looking forward to this season. It wasn’t too long ago that I almost dreaded basketball starting. What a refreshing change!

I saw Baha Mar on the screen behind Sean I think. We were there for a wedding a few years ago. I think it’s AWESOME that these young men get to go and experience that. Just don’t wear out the bartenders at the pool bars like we did! :-)

I also noticed that Penn State is playing the same two teams that Xavier is down in the Bahamas. Too bad they can't scrimmage against Penn State - would have given a better barometer on how the guys are clicking so far.

Yeah the competition was horrible. That team had two guys leave recently to play for the Bahamas national team that is trying to play in the Olympics. They have 5 nba guys on their national team. Regardless of competition, Kachi Nzeh has a really bright future. I can see him starting if Jerome isn’t ready. He is all over the place and is skilled. Dunks, rebounds, hits jumpers, good free throw stroke and was guarding the other teams guards at times.
