Sorry my formatting looks weird once I post, can't figure it out. But click the link to see the tweet and pick your 5.

Crawford biggest value imo.

Tyrique most over priced imo.

You guys are clever, lol. It may be because you are only looking at my bad formatting but there are rows of players to pick at each position and you take one from each row.

So you can't have Tu and Chalmers. Also can't have West and Grant or Sato and Crawford.

If we disregarded the rows my list would be different.

Ok, definitely not clear. Assumed we could pick any 5 as long as it added up to $18 or less.

How about Semaj, Crawford, Posey, West and Nunge. Semaj deserves a chance to finally play on a Xavier team where he's not the only good player!

One from each row is $15 -- it said I have $18, why should they care what row they are from if I don't go over the limit. Oh well, these things are always fun, and I like my team for $18.

Sorry, I should have said column, not row!

If only I could figure out how to get the picture to post instead of writing it out myself but then having the format all messed up once I actually post!

If you were allowed to pick any players that added to $18 regardless of position or column, I would make one change to my original pick.

I would not pick Frease for $1.

I would shift West to Center and add D. Brown at PF.

So:

Tu
Crawford
Tre
Brown
West

SteveSpivery

PG Semaj 4
SG Macura 4
SF Brown 1
PF West 5
C Love 4

Brown definitely best value for money.

I'm shocked anyone took Bluiett when you could get Posey AND save a buck.

JP may go down as one of the most overrated players of all time. The fact that he's valued more than Crawford and Sato is laughable.

Ill go

Semaj
Sato
Posey
West
Stain

Bluiett was a three time 1st team all BE player. When looking at college stats on sports reference they give a strength of schedule rating for each players seasons and career to reflect the level of competition. Posey's career SOS is 4.64, Tre's is 9.71. Posey was 1st team A10 his senior year and 2nd team his junior year. Also two time 6th man of the year which he excelled in.

Tre and Posey are my 2nd and 3rd favorite players all time. No argument from me if someone took Posey over Tre in this exercise. Posey was clearly the better overall player with his defensive capabilities, but Trevon was one of the best scorers who ever came through X and he did it against the best competition X has faced throughout their history in various conferences.

I think Tre may be underrated by some.

There is only 1 X player who doesn't have his jersey retired right now that is guaranteed to have it in the rafters one day and that is Bluiett.

I don't think I'm undervaluing Bluiett. Great player at X. I just can't see taking him over Posey (and spending the extra buck). There's a reason Posey spent a decade in the NBA and Bluiett did...not.

Bluiett was a featured scorer on a team known for scoring. Defense....not so much.

Most of these rosters that people have proposed include at least 2 or 3 other big time scorers. Trevons value as a scorer is diminished a little when you've got so many other options.

Posey played more 4 than 3 at XU, but his ideal spot is at the 3. He'd lock down nearly any opposing wing player if he was able to focus on that as opposed to having rebounding responsibilities.

Can I get Lavender for free? I feel for Scruggs. He is a victim of the Steele era. He really should be a SG. The question is what value he would be as SG? (I got him replacing BJ on the $1 line.)

My team: Tu (PG), Sato (SG), Posey (SF), West (PF), Frease (C)

My struggle was the center position. I mostly wanted a defensive presence, but I didn't want to pay for Tyrique or Love. Therefore I had leftover cash to spend on Tu. But if I can get Lavender for free...

Brian Thornton was an underrated Stud. Anthoiny Miles was pretty good too. karem Kanter. Hell, Zach Hankins.

I view Frease as having not met expectations. Its not that I dont like the "guy", its just that I'd find a way NOT to have him on my roster in this scenario.

Exactly, what shapes many of our perspectives on Frease is our expectation of what he would be. He was a top 60 recruit who had a slow start to his career. But if you put up Frease's stats from his junior and senior year against any of the guys you mentioned they at least measure up comparably if not better.

Oh man, how did I forget about Thornton?

I agree Frease was an unfortunate victim of the high school prospect rankings. I would gladly take him on most any Xavier team.

In this scenario, I'm thinking mostly of a center to pair with David West. I want someone who can play defense so West doesn't have to bang so much, rebound, and leave space in the lane if needed (even though I know West's midrange game became his calling card in the NBA). Someone like Tyrique or Thornton would be great. I prefer Kenny as a lane-clogger. I'd put him with an athletic or stretch 4. (Which I recognize is somewhat ridiculous because we're talking about David Freakin' West.)

Yep. We remember Jason Love so fondly because of the huge jump he made from coming in to his senior year. Even his junior yr to senior yr jump was huge. He wasn't heralded but worked hard and became better.

Frease was better right away and had better career numbers and their best seasons were very very similar, yet Frease is a $1 disappointment and Love is a $4 star.

Can Steve Thomas come in off the bench?
