Top 60 2024 recruit Tyler McKinley is expected to commit this week. A local post player would be a big pickup for the program. Hopefully Miller can get this kid. Would be a monster start to the 24 class.

He’s going to UC. I don’t get it but that’s where he will commit to.

NIL$ ?
They were the first to offer him back in last 2021.

Not NIL. If that were the case he would go to Alabama or Tennessee. My guess is that some people feel that if you are from Cincinnati you are obligated to play for Cincinnati.

That sUCks! If they get top 10 post Flory Bidunga as well they will have a strong front court for a few years.

Do you know this for sure?

The arrivals I read says he has a good relationship with the UC staff, but is also mentions Sean’s track record for getting forwards to the next level. He mentions he quietly made his commitment already. Did someone leak some info? Would be a great get.

They are not getting Flory lol. I know the guy that runs their 247 site likes to keep his supporters paying him to say stuff like that, but they have zero chance with him.

Tyler picks UC. I don't know if he's a home run, but definitely progress for that team. They need a lot of help still. Probably a couple years away from anything very competitive going into the Big 12.

He was really considering Xavier. Considering the better overall team, I'm surprised he didn't pick X.

You never know what goes into a decision, but these days especially we know you never burn bridges.

Sometimes when you are from Cincinnati there is a lot of pressure to play for the team with the city name and I am sure there was a lot of pressure on him to go to UC. We will see if it works out. Wes Miller needs to show he can win games. He has been a head coach now for 12 seasons and has never won an NCAA tourney game and he only won 62% of his conference games in the southern conference over 10 years. He followed that up by going 18-18 in the AAC. Sometimes as a coach, you are who you are, good or bad. Good coaches win and bad coaches don’t.

Wes Miller was 70-20 in conference his last four years at UNCG. I think he's fine at winning. UC is still a tough gig, though.

Is that good? It is the southern conference. He is Travis Steele and pat kelsey light.

Yes, 70-20 is really good. They were 22-80 the 3+ years before he started as their head coach.

And why on earth would you group Steele with Kelsey?!? Kelsey deserves better than that.

His first year he finished 1st in conference due to what he inherited and then finished no better than 5th the next 4 years after that. The guy is a horrible coach, which is fine.

Yeah, they were so good that year they started 2-8, 0-3 and fired the coach.

Just going off his wiki. He has been a coach for a long time and he sucks. He makes Travis Steele look good. Maybe you are his agent?

Turned out the best career move Kelsey made was to do ab about-face on UMass when he realized what he was walking into. I can't see Travis getting Miami back on track anytime soon.

Hey, if you look at the resume of a 40 year old like Miller and it makes you think he sucks, then you are entitled to your very odd opinion. I hope he does poorly at UC, but his track record suggests he will not.

Based on Miller's record, he seems like a good coach. It is a very difficult thing to(coaching) and most coaches suck. He persevered and got some good records after a rebuild in Carolina.
He hasn't shown he is top 50 so far at UC but he can recruit well.
UC has fallen a ton but I will give Wes 2 more years to right that average program.

Travis seems to be recruiting ok at Miami. However, I am not sure he will bring in enough talent to overcome his coaching weaknesses. Similar to what he was like here. Good recruiter and a below average in game coach.

Miami is a tough gig. Travis would have been better off starting at a much lower level. He had an offer to coach MTSU before getting the Xavier job, which would have been a much better place to start. Travis knows basketball so will be interesting to see if he can learn and win at Miami. If he does he will have bigger offers at some point.

No offense, but I’m not so sure that Travis really understands basketball. He deployed an offensive system with the wrong personnel for 4 seasons. The system was designed around having 4-5 capable deep shooters on the floor at all times and we generally had 2-3 out there. As soon as the opposing coaches started LETTING that system generate open 3s from bad shooters was the moment a good coach would have realized his system doesn’t match his roster.

Obvious to EVERYONE except the guy that made the decisions….

I think he thought that with enough practice his players would just become the Golden State Warriors. Only they didn't pass it enough to get open looks. And it was usually the wrong guy getting open looks.

But enough about him. Tyler McKinley will be interesting to see in 2024-25. He's got some tournaments coming up this summer. He needs to bulk up. Let's see if the Big 12 is something he can handle.

Travis does not know basketball. He knows how to look at an iPad and analytics.

did he ever coach CYO ball? if not, he can't know anything about basketball. everyone knows that the greatest coaches in the world are coaching at the CYO level.

haha, well lets say he ran some very familiar plays, that i was able to snuff out which made me feel good. But his son and one other kid were very good and played the whole game naturally. And yes.. 4th grade bball they were shooting 3's ( and missing) so all very familiar feelings

Curious, was he coaching a Cardinal Pacelli or Hyde Park St. Mary's squad?
