Might as well have a place holder in case they are competitive.

3-2 with a rain out today. It's not your father's Big Red Machine.

Before the loss yesterday, the Reds were 2 games over .500 at 3-1. The last time they were 2 games over .500 was October of 2021. That’s embarrassing!

Reds now have plenty of offense but look to still be a ways away from having good starting pitching. Green and Lodolo look ok, but aren't there yet. Ashcraft has gone in the tanker the last several starts. Beyond that who knows..........Would be nice to see them grab a vet or two to see if they can make any kind of run and be relevant in Aug/Sept. Would be fun for the city.

Ashcraft had good stuff in his last start, which he had to leave the game because he got hit on the calf with a line drive. He showed signs of coming around.

Abbott has done well in his first 2 starts, he goes tonight in Houston.

All of our pitchers are young, so ups and downs are expected. The goal this season is still development.

But if we can keep it close, we have plenty of payroll flexibility to add a couple of arms at the deadline if needed.

Just placed a $1 bet on the Reds to win it all. Pays $151. They are still +450 to win the division which is tied with the cubs for 2nd.

Do the Reds become buyers at the deadline in any sort of meaningful way? Do they have the ammo to buy without giving up any of the promising young talent they are really excited about? Being a Mets fan I don't know too much about the Reds farm system other than the guys who have come up to the majors and knowing the Reds have more coming.

Do Reds fans want them to be buyers in a significant way? Or do you just enjoy what they have done and can do with what they have, maybe try to mildly improve, and see what happens without sacrificing any young talent?

The Reds will be buyers at the deadline, especially if they remain in first place. The farm system is loaded with prospects right now. This is the first time ever the Reds stripped the club to the bone, and executed a complete rebuild. If they can add a starting pitcher, or outfielder than can hit left handed pitching, or some other piece to the major league club for a pennant run, it can't involve their best prospects...especially if the player gained is a rental with an expiring contract.

The Reds are ahead of schedule, and should stay the course. I want them to win and play meaningful fall baseball. It would be awesome if they can make a pennant run in the last year of Joey Votto's deal (yes I know there is a mutual option for next season). But I would prefer they don't ship off their top prospects for a MLB player ready to jump into free agency.

The only player under contract for next season right now is Hunter Greene. The rest are under team control through arbitration. We have payroll flexibility and can make moves, but I am hoping they don't screw up this rebuild and ship off young talent for a chance to win this season, and this season only.

Not a reds fan but I agree. Someone today compared them to the 2014 or 2015 cubs today and I think that’s a good description. If they can flip some of these guys for pitching, they could end up being the 2016 cubs next year.

Was there probably 8-9 years ago. We pretty much ate at the ballpark but there were a couple good bars downtown. If you're driving, though, you have to go to the Brat Stop. It's on 94 - just off the second or third exit once you cross into Wisconsin from Illinois. Get the brat combo. You definitely will not regret stopping there. Rumor has it when Jordan was with the Bulls and they would drive up to play the Bucks he'd have them stop there.

Senzel misplays a ball early in the game, leading to a run. Senzel makes an absolute prayer of a catch, twisting and turning and crashing into the wall in the bottom of the 9th to save the game. Senzel leads off the 10th by parking a 97 MPH fastball into the bullpen on the first pitch. Reds win by 1...

De La Cruz, McClain, Steer, all on the offensive side, Abbot, Greene, Ashcraft, Lodolo as young pitchers, the Reds are loaded with young talent, that doesn't even include guys like Noelvi Marte and Encarnacion-Strand in the minors, it's been really fun watching these guys play. Just for shits and giggles, I just noticed that 3 of the Reds were in last year's Futures Game at Dodger Stadium. Elly De La Cruz and Andrew Abbott were 2 representatives for the Reds and Spencer Steer was with the Twins organization at the time. (Keep in mind that Steer was part of the deal that sent Tyler Mahle to Minnesota; Mahle unfortunately had Tommy John surgery and is out for 2023.)

Christian Encarcacion-Strand was another infielder involved in the Mahle deal that will be worth watching in the minors.

Was having a beer at Streetside this afternoon, and the Reds game was on. While I was watching, the Reds managed a leadoff double (with some nifty baserunning), and then proceeded to have the next three guys strike out on 9 pitches. no one even made contact with the ball, probably aided by the fact that at least half the pitches were outside the strike zone. I have never understood why they seem to be the least patient batting on MLB, year after year after year. I would say it's the hitting coaches, except this problem has persisted for years, through all kinds of coaching changes. Totally baffling because it's so dumb.

Not clear to me how individual players qualify, but as aggressive as they say the Reds batters are, they don't have any listed under the league avg. of 3.90. The closest is Steer and he is ranked 104. They are amazingly patient at the plate.

They started 4 rookies in the infield last night + Benson and Friedl in the outfield who are basically rookies as well. This team is so far ahead of schedule. On April 18th the Reds set a team low for attendance with just 7300 people. Now they are averaging around 24k and that number will probably tick up a few more thousand by the end of the year. Very funny. I heard the broadcast guys a few weeks ago say the execs feel he may be too much of a wild card for live TV. If that’s the case he should do Rockies games so there’s something with a heartbeat going on during the games.

That's about 46,333 fans per game. Was that the weekend the Yankees were in town?

For the first time this year, the Reds are slight betting favorites to win the NL Central. +110 to Milwaukee's +120. Cubs are still hanging around at +500.

+110 for both on DK.
+115 for Brewers and +120 for Reds on FD

Glad I got +425 back in June! Although wish I did it a little sooner in the winning streak....

I got +400 to win the division, +5000 to win the league, and +15000 to win it all. Being the big gambler I am, those bets are $5, $1, and $1.

Didn't Pete Rose make the first sports bet at the Hard Rock back in January when sports betting became legal in Ohio? I remember he bet the Reds to win the WS. Wonder how much that bet was for and at what odds.

Ha, seriously. Long suffering Mets fan here. It's always something.

However, Uncle Steve has different kind of money. No other baseball owner comes close. So there is always hope. He is also doing what he is doing because he understands the importance of building the long neglected farm system. The Mets won't be contenders next year but it won't be a half decade long rebuild.

BOBBY BONILLA!! Neither have been dominant this year, Verlander looks like he's figuring it out his past few starts, but Scherzer was pretty bad this year, his swing-miss rate is at career flows, and his slider isn't as devastating as it used to be, plus giving up a lot of HR's now.. talk about taking a huge swing and a miss for the Mets though, obviously Cohen has the funds to make MLB his playground, but wow this season backfired for them in royal fashion. I'm interested in seeing what strategy he takes going forward now.

It's funny the Mets get so much flack for that despite many other teams doing the same with various players, including the Reds with Griffey Jr who is the 4th highest paid Red this season.

I keep wanting to write the Reds off after a horrible 8-game stretch, but the Braves and Mets have been extraordinarily Good Samaritans. If tonight's games hold up, the Reds will be 1 game out of a postseason spot. Reds play 3 at STL, the Cubs play 3 at MIL and the Marlins play 3 at PIT.

With the way the tiebreakers run, the Reds would have an edge over the Dbacks should they tie in the standings (4-3 head-to-head) but would lose a tiebreaker to the Marlins based on divisional record (Reds and Marlins were 3-3 against each other). 2 wins against the Cards and 2 wins by Houston against Arizona would get the Reds in.

Cubs are literally hanging by a fingernail after 4 kicks between the legs from Atlanta/Milwaukee this week.
