Xavier is battling to reach at least the NCAA Sweet 16 for the ninth time in school history, including the seventh time since 2008.

Xavier did everything in its power to lose to Kennesaw State yet somehow still won. Maybe, for starters, do not do that.

Given their performance the last two games, it is tempting to believe we are due to revert to a more Creightonesque performance. But, for that to happen, Nunge must establish himself down low-----its O.K. for him to pop out to the top of the key and open up the middle-----but he must be able to set up close to the basket. He didn't seem to be able to do that against KSU, even though they had nobody to match his height. Pitt will not have that disadvantage.

Secondly, Colby must wake up offensively. He has been bipolar at times this year and I don't get it. I've heard smart knowledgeable commentators like Donny Marshall (and posters on this board) sing his praises as a lockdown future NBA player. But, almost as soon as we hear a few such comments, Colby seems to disappear offensively or go cold. To me, tomorrow's game rides on Nunge and Jones.

Defense is not a strength of either team, and both teams are due for good shooting, so expect an offensive battle. You can throw the metrics out the window at this point. What matters most is which team wants it more. We need our guards to step it up from this point on. A performance like yesterday will not work against the teams we will face for the rest of the tournament.

Yup, me and a fellow alum are looking to make an absolutely ridiculous day trip by leaving at 4:30am to get there on time, watch the game, and head back getting back by 1am because work Monday AM strictly because tickets are so reasonably priced as well. Gonna be a doozy of a day with a lot of caffeine and driving, but I've never been to an NCAA game so pretty excited! I'd also recommend the TickPic app since they don't collect any fees for tickets if anybody else is looking.

If you're not motivated, and ready to go to war in the NCAA Tourney I'm worried about you, though agreed Miller will have them on their toes for this one I think. It's such a breath of fresh air having Miller over Steele, I would have had no faith in coming back against Kennesaw with Steele, but something about Miller's presence on the sidelines.. this team is resilient and gritty, for all the short comings defensively and what not, you can't say they quit ever.

The margin for error on fouls for this team is basically zero, given how short the bench is. When you consider it, the team defense is actually pretty amazing.

After Freemantle went down I didn’t know what to expect. Honestly my expectation diminished to one win in the tournament and anything else was great. Wish we could bottle that performance up and bring it Friday with an added Boum game. Happy for those guys, they’ve been through a lot. Feel for Freemantle for a few reasons. Mostly because he wanted to enjoy this so much- talked about it all the time. Secondly, I’d like our chances vs Texas much more.

We can discuss it in another thread. But I was surprised to see the line was only X+3.5.

Just watched the team welcome home clip on Twitter. Realized just how much I missed this stuff the last 4 years. It's all gravy now but boy would it be sweet to climb the mountain next weekend. Who says you can never go home? Thank you Sean & players !!!!

Left with a fellow X grad at 5am this morning, picked up another fellow X grad and friend at a halfway marker since he was en route, got to Greensboro parked, in the stadium, and in our seats about 3 minutes before tip off, before getting back around 11pm tonight. The Xavier fans in attendance were loud and drowned out the Pitt fans quite easily. Only complaint were all the Big Blue Nation fans continuing to walk up and down the isles first 5 minutes of the game obstructing views, but not bad seats for $100, didn't know it included the Kentucky/K-State game as well in the lower bowl, but we had to get back since we both work at 9AM, truly a special experience.

Per the game, the refs were interesting during it, felt like at times they'd call a lot of ticky-tacky crap, and with our limited depth Nunge has to be smarter about fouling out when he did, it was soft but at that point, screw it just give them the bucket and don't contest (granted, I'm sure Sean would have bitched him out for lacking effort, would have still found it to be smarter.) It's troubling not to score a FG in the last 8 minutes of the game, and our atrocious free throw shooting. Really wish we could put together a complete game and step on the necks of our opponents when we have them pinned for submission, but all in all a much much more pleasant experience than the Kennesaw St game, and well worth the 14 hours spent in a car today, truly is Sweet to have the program back where it belongs. Just hope we can work some of these kinks out, because Texas is good, and we'll need a complete game.

Xavier has two incredibly disappointing tournaments on their record since joining BE. But they are very clearly separated as the 2nd (wayyyyy behind nova) in terms of tourney success since BE realignment. In terms of wins and 2nd weekends. This despite 4 years lost with Steele.

Marquette has 1 freaking win since realignment and it just happened against a 15 seed. That is it. Providence typically stinks but did break through recently, Seton Hall stinks in the tournament, Creighton finally broke through and now is in their second sweet 16 in 3 years.

Glad to see 3 teams in the Sweet 16 this year with a really good chance to get multiple in the Elite 8 or beyond. Big for the league.
