Mack made some interesting comments as reported in the enquirer.

- Not ready to return to coaching but schools have "reached out"

- Cooley has a lot of "equity" at Providence...you don't mess with happiness..."I learned the hard way"

- The family moving to Florida

Interesting. I wonder why Florida? I know his daughter is down at Img but that’s only for a year? Maybe he’s just sick of this bullshit weather in the Midwest area like me

sick of this bullshit weather in the Midwest area

This is the truest statement ever made on this site. LOL. I keep wondering when I will leave this weather. Part of that is figuring out the best place to go that Xavier is likely to play occasionally so I can get my fix no longer living in Cincy.

His other daughter is also going to Flagler college in Florida. I think they already had a place in Florida so I am sure he could always move to his next destination once he he figures he wants to coach again. He also likes to fish so I am sure he will do that a lot in Florida.

Speaking of, if anyone hasnt checked out that complex/school online through Google Maps / image search etc, you really should. Its unbelievable and beyond remarkable (and also over $70k a year if boarding there w/sport fees)

He was on the Field of 68 podcast with Fanta and Goodman. I watched most of it. Both his girls are going to college in FLA and one at IMG, which is mentioned above. I would say that he's probably very much looking forward to it. He looked very relaxed, at ease and comfortable with where he's at in life. He talked a little bit about the grind of coaching and he didn't want to commit to it this year but wanted to ensure his daughters started off on the right foot in college.

You can tell he knows that's a luxury that most people don't have. He did make the statement about learning the hard way, but you know he is also enjoying the piles of cash that has allowed him to choose his lifestyle. He is very good on these type of podcasts.

I'd venture to guess we see him back in coaching in the next few years. In the meantime, sounds like alot of boat time for him. But I could also see him on TV because he's very good at analysis and break-down.

Exactly......he left a great job at his alma mater in his hometown for Louisville. A program that had all sorts of issues prior to him arriving. AND on top of that it was widely known the leadership (president and AD) were not strong either.

I thought one of his daughter was committed to play at Mizzou? Maybe that is the one at IMG? Or maybe that fell through?

Anyway, I think the fact they moved makes it more likely he coaches again one day. I think the hardest part for him was moving his kids and pulling them out of school and moving from his wife's family. But that has already happened with one in college now, the other moved to a different high school, and his son isn't entrenched in only one school he's ever known.

The one that is at img and was committed to go to Mizzou, is now going to vandy.

The leadership was a bit in flux before Mack arrived, but I don't think it's a good characterization to sa that the leadership there was not strong. It lets Mack off the hook. A week after Mack was hired, UofL officially hired Neeli Bendapudi as President. She was a solid enough leader at Louisville that Penn State recently hired her away. Vince Tyra was given the full time gig as Louisville Athletic Director at the same time Mack was hired. Tyra fired Petrino and made a solid (if definitely not spectacular) hire in Scott Satterfield for football, retained Jeff Walz (one of the best women's basketball coaches in the country and retained Dan McDonnell (one of the top baseball coaches in the country). Mack was Tyra's signature hire and moved him from interim to full time AD, so Mack's failure was ultimately Tyra's downfall. He let Tyra down and not the other way around.

I personally dont read too much into the connection between him moving and wanting to coach again. I mean, do you REALLY think it's fun for Chris Mack to be recognized all over Louisville?

The extent of UofLs "crash" has been amazing, and he's a central figure in it all. the BEST you could say about Mack is that he made a terrible misjudgement of the situation. The Worst you could say is that he's accountable for the current state.

yeah, Florida here he comes....

The folks at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville (My Mom went there and my Cousin was President) are definitely not sad that the Mack’s moved out.

I was speaking purely from the perspective of making the decision to leave for UL. The school and specifically the basketball program was a mess.

Now, did Mack do a great job there........of course not. But some of that baggage also didn't help him either. The Gaudio situation sealed his fate.

Mack seems content to follow his two daughters as they play college volleyball over the next 5 years. Would he accept the HC or assistant job at Vandy if it opens while his daughter is there? Perhaps.

I think he will coach his son at St. X in 10 years, follow him around if he plays in college and retire for good a rich man no less accomplished than 95% of college coaches.

I thought the situation with Gaudio really put him in a bad light. That was just some petty, unprofessional sh*t, and it somewhat reinforced some of the feelings people had about Mack from his early days. He can overcome it because he has a great basketball mind.

So I guess we shouldn't be counting on either Chris or Christi Mack to coach the women's basketball team anytime soon?

• Hard to believe his daughters are already for college. It seems like a short time ago seeing those little ones on stage at Musketeer Madness.

• Mack screwed up with handling Gino, but in the grand scheme of screw ups with coaches, that seems like small potatoes. I think he would have turned things around there if they stuck with him. He must have really clashed with his bosses.

• So...you guys think the weather in FL is less bullshit? Hurricanes. Losing shoreline. Constant high humidity. Falling iguanas when it hits freezing. I hate the predominant gray skies of Cincinnati, but the weather is pretty stable compared to much of the country.

• His advice to Cooley should be noted. Don't mess up a situation that's working for everyone.

PS: Didn't Pitino have a home in FL after he was fired from Louisville? Maybe it's part of the contract?

Midwest weather is consistently shitty for most of the year. Winter is gray, summer is typically hot and humid as shit without an ocean...we get about two nice weeks in Spring and fall, that's all.

I could not care less about losing shoreline or the possibility of a hurricane. To each their own though..until the kids are grown, I'm stuck here so let me complain lol

The last 2-3 years of Fall have been great, but over the course of the last 25 years, you're right.

Florida's great this time of year but the summers are brutal speaking from 31 years experience. Most the summer you are hermetically sealed in the house on the 95/95 days with $300 electric bills. I always took an extra shirt to play golf as I would 1. Sweat thru the first one or 2. Get rained on. Going out to the attractions is a sweatfest in summer with no shade. Can't tell you how many LL ballgames got rained out, at least 20% of the time. I survived 4 hurricanes. Love the Colorado summers. Never turned the air on once, probably cuz I lived in Fl. so long. Beach to the purple mtn majesty. Nice change.

FL is tied with TX at 3rd most natural disasters. They've had 10 major natural disasters since 2021. Hurricanes and tropical storms. That's a lot to go through and it's getting worse.

Your other states would be much better in that regard.

OH has had zero natural disasters in that time. Flooding has been the biggest severe issue over the years.

Us Midwesterners always pick Florida for vacations, but I agree, it's miserable in the summer.

Colorado, especially the mountain towns, in the Summer and Fall is unmatched. Sunny, dry (humidity wise), perfect temperatures and comfortable. It's literally a comfortable desert.

Ohio is going to become one of the most populated states in the next 20-30 years due to climate change and diminishing resources . Hold on to your houses because you will be able to sell them for a fortune when you move to your under the ocean home in Florida. Cincinnati will be beach front soon enough. F Florida, one of the shittiest states in the country. Great in October though.

If it ever gets to a point where beach front property is available in Ohio, there won’t be any people left to purchase it. We will have all starved to death thousands of years before.

[Groan] Al Gore called; he wants his fear mongering back.

Ohio is top-20 in the country for average age of the population, and it has been steadily increasing over the past 20 years relative to other states. In fact, were it not for baby boomers living longer, as well as those demographers call the "aged aged" (those 85 and above), Ohio would be on the edge of a demographic cliff. Very, very few kids I grew up with still live in Ohio. And no one I've ever met has had a hankering to move in. And yet you think the Ohio real estate market is going to sky rocket because of... climate change? Please excuse me for stifling my laughter. Even if The Day After Tomorrow moves from fiction to fact within our lifetime, Ohio will not be some Shangri La for the displaced.

I'm no climate change denier. I'm a moderate on the topic - take all the precautions within reason just in case the worst predictions would otherwise come true. Discretion is the better part of valor, after all. But seriously, the prognosticating about some climate calamity occurring within a certain period of time makes me snicker every time. When is the last time one of these predicted disasters came to fruition? If Al Gore had been correct in his prognosticating, we'd all be underwater right now.

I've been living in South Carolina since 2012. Just took a job to move back to OH. Can't wait to get out of this place. The summers here are absolutely brutal. From June to September it's next to impossible to really enjoy the outside. The humidity is through the roof. It's like breathing through a straw. I know that December through February are rough in OH, but I now have friends in warm places to escape to every now and then. I also truly miss the seasons of the Midwest.

That's because you live in Columbia...the hottest place in South Carolina.
You should have tried the Upstate. And then down to the beaches when you could.
Good luck on your move!

Yeah, I lived in Cola until 2019. You are right, it's brutal. We now live in a lake community just south of Charlotte. We like it better, but it's still awful in the summers. My daughter just moved to the upstate. She is hopeful the summers are better.

Thanks!
