Xavier’s Nunge Named Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year (https://www.bigeast.com/news/2023/3/8/xaviers-nunge-named-mens-basketball-scholar-athlete-of-the-year.aspx)
Xavier forward Jack Nunge has been named BIG EAST Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The selection was made by the Conference’s Academic Affairs Committee.
Nunge will receive a $2,000 scholarship, which may be applied to graduate or professional studies.
Nunge, a graduate student, has compiled a 3.97 graduate GPA in the Xavier MBA program after a 3.35 GPA as an undergraduate in Accounting. In addition to his academic work, Nunge has participated in Xavier Special Olympics. He is a member of the Xavier Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
On the court, Nunge has played a critical role in helping the Musketeers to a 23-8 overall record and a 15-5 BIG EAST mark. The native of Newburgh, Ind., is averaging 14.0 points and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in rebounding with a 7.7 mark. He is shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from 3-point range. Xavier will be the No. 2 seed at this week’s BIG EAST Tournament.

Kolek named Big East POY....likely based on his 1st half at Cintas. Just force him to go right to cool his jets.
Souley Boum comes up 2 points shy of Adams Sanogo in total points. Still a lot of hoopin' left though!

Without such a balanced starting five, Boum, Colby, Nunge or Freemantle each could have won Player of the Year in a different scenario. It is easy to imagine their stat lines cranking up with higher volume shooting. Reminds me of the team balance and all-conference results from 2008.

Any freshman that plays significant minutes is going to make the all-freshman team. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t better freshman on other teams, but only that they didn’t play enough in the league games for the coaches to see them. They won’t vote for players they don’t see play.

I don't know about that. There were 12 freshman that played at least 10 minutes per in the conference, and obviously only 6 got honors.
Fielder from Gtown, Abass from Depaul, Ball from UCONN all played very significant minutes and were not selected. For X to get two selections shows the promise and talent that others in the conference see that even some of our own fans don't.

Add to your last sentence, Des was voted most improved player. Obviously other coaches in the league see our potential moving forward.
