Spectrum just hit us with a price increase, so looking to potentially make a switch. Has anyone used Tmobile or Verizon for home internet? Spectrum service and the product itself have been great, but saving $600-800/year is hard to pass up. I work from home 80% of the time so reliability is important..

Did you call them and speak to retention? Every time that happens to me, I call and they find a way to lower my bill back to what it was.

I switched to AltaFiber and have generally been pleased. I pay for the 1gb down and where it comes into the house it is generally as advertised. However, with my Google Home system I do see quite a bit of loss going through my home's old plaster and brick walls, but generally it remains about 100mb.

The TV service has been generally good, except that it is about a minute behind cable. Doesn't really bug me except when watching Xavier games and getting text messages bitching about plays that won't happen for another 35 seconds.

We just got altafiber installed in my neighborhood. Was thinking about/. getting the service. Really, one minute delay? Like you, have friends texting about game live not to mention the notifications from the X app.

Reason for potentially changing is Spectrum has been down a lot lately in my area. Any issues on outages? Or just the norm.

Heard upload speeds are much better. Do you see much of a difference in this area? Realize it’s not a big perk for everyone. Finally do you have your own modem. Since I’m not overly familiar with the Google system, it might have its own?

I am using Spectrum. I have not paid for an increase in rates for 5-7 years.

I noticed the sizable increase last week and was about to call them but when I looked on-line again the amount due was back down to within a dollar or two of the prior months. Maybe they made an error or got so much blowback they adjusted?

On the delay, it is that bad. I'll get a text about a charge call that is on the next possession. It is to the point that in high stress situations watching the game live at Cintas and my phone buzzes I catch myself being worried that the text is a spoiler.

The speeds are very quick, but I also went from 50mb to a 1gb.

Good to know and thanks for feedback. Reason why I ask about modem is because it’s $10 a month. So if they charge $69.99 plus $10, this brings me back to what I’m paying for Spectrum (79.99). Getting 300 mbps which is great for downloads.

After my last price increase from altafiber / CinBell, I switched to home internet from T-Mobile. Overall, I’m very happy with it. I’ve had a couple of instances of the connection dropping. Restarting the router fixed it. For $50 a month, you can’t beat it.

I’m now getting TV via YouTube TV. There is a lag compared to TV from FiOptics. If I’m following the game on Twitter, I’ll see something from Adam Baum about 30 seconds before it’s on my TV.

Are you local to Cincy?

Yes. Liberty Township, just north of West Chester. The main factor is how close the T-Mobile towers are to your home. You can check it by providing your address on their website.

FWIW, I just ran a speed test and got 179 down and 48 up. I think the fastest I’ve ever gotten was about around 250 down. That’s a big improvement from the 45 down and 2.75 up I had with CinBell. Bell hasn’t yet gotten full fiber to my part of town. Not sure I’d really need it anyway. I don’t have any buffering or connectivity issue with the speeds I have.
