I know he went through a major health ordeal last year, but not giving up on Tucker at this point. Of course, we had to call out the MASH unit today.

On the plus side, he seemed explosive. Appears to have a good first step. Not sure it wasn’t just the byproduct of situation, though.

Think he puts way too much arc on his shot, though.

With Nova coming in 3 days from now, I’m very happy that they could give the starters a blow the last 5-6 minutes. Hopefully Claude will be back for that game. Thankfully Nova has just as quick a turnaround and they have to travel on top of it. Providence is going to be a tough game to win, but I think that they can get the others if they can get past Nova on Tuesday. Good win today!

Let me start by making it clear that I am always happy to see a hard working walk-on receive a scholarship.

Now on to the part about athleticism. I have no clue how athletic GOMUSKIES is, but I wouldn’t be completely shocked if we found out he was once at least as athletic as some of those walk-ons on the current X roster. The level of athleticism we’ve seen from the walk-ons this season doesn’t exactly match the level we’ve seen in the past. Heck, when I was a Freshman at X, a buddy of mine made the team as a walk-on and I can tell you he was a bit more athletic than most (if not all) of those fellas. Even a few years ago, X had some pretty athletic walk-ons - sadly they may have gotten even less playing time than the current walk-ons.

Still, it’s always fun watching the non-scholarship players get in a game with the hope that one of them will throw down an impressive dunk or at least hit a few from beyond the arc.

Never poop (I’m a gentlemen and I’ll leave it at that) and I’ll leave it it that. Some of of you turds think it’s impressive to touch a net. You have know idea how cool it is to see the walk-ns at this level.

I’m pretty sure you should just cheer like X people and not critici a 19-22 walk on. That’s frankly, total.bullshit it’s not like the kid isn’t taking all of those classes practicing like his future depended.

This turd’s intent wasn’t to make the walk-one look bad. Not sure why you are taking this all so personally. I have a feeling GoMiskies initial comment about the walk-one not getting a scholarship was a bit more tongue-in-cheek (about the struggles they happened to be having during this particular night on the court) and not the meaner spirited take that “none of them actually deserves a scholarship.” At least that’s how I took his comment.

No question the walk-ons work their tails off, earn their stripes in practice and also provide enjoyment for the fans. They are clearly the best non-scholarship candidates available. Sometimes a walk-on selected can be more on the athletic side and sometimes he may be a decent athletes but it’s really his shooting ability or maybe his tenacity that really helped him get chosen. The same goes for the scholarship players. Some are a little more athletic than others and some may be better shooters or maybe they have more tenacity and grit.

I was not suggesting that they didn’t have talent - just that this season they “collectively” look to be a little less “athletic” than walk-ons from some other rosters. Maybe they are good at scoring or really solid at playing defense against the scholarship players.

So yeah- they certainly deserve our support and the one who works the hardest all season or contributes the most or maybe even has the most talent of the group deserves to get a scholarship. I love that part of D1 college sports. I just don’t get how you thought I was being disrespectful with my comments.

XUGRAD80
02-19-2023, 06:51 AM
I took his comment as tongue-in-cheek too. I don't think that it was anything other than an observation that none of them looked particularly talented enough to warrant regular playing time. There have been a few walk-ons that did earn some regular playing time in the past, but that's certainly not normal at this level of college BB. No harm, no foul. DePaul kept their starters in until the end, X cleared the bench. DePaul scored some points and X didn't. Big deal.

I do think that everyone here should (and does) respect the efforts and talents of the walk-ons, and all of the other Xavier athletes that toil and compete in relative obscurity. Juggling school and athletics, along with the rest of what life throws at you during those years, is not easy. As has been said, "If it was easy everyone would do it. It's the hard that makes it great."
