View Full Version : How Many More wins with Sean?

I was thinking of this today. Our margin of victory has been tight in numerous games and big games. How many of those would we have lost if Sean wasn’t the coach? Souley is a huge factor, but just base the answer on game coaching. I say at least 4 based upon the numerous wasted possessions of former years. Good coaches win close games because they pay attention to detail. Coaching matters.
Have at it!

Before the season I thought it would be 3 to 4 games. At this point in the season, I'm thinking more than 4 but not sure what that number would be.

6, only because 7 isn't an option.

I think after every one of these games, I said to myself or someone I was with, "no way we win that game with Steele as coach".
Hard to obviously remember exactly which games I said that about, but there have been a lot of them.
The mental toughness and unwillingness to crumble under pressure and to have response after response to the other teams runs has been immeasurably better.

Perfect example of how the right hire can get you right back on track quickly, and the wrong one can derail you for years.
Not only has he made an impact in probably 5+ more wins this season, he saved the program probably 1-2 years of having to rebuild through a coach that simply would have needed more time to find his footing. This is why you pay for experience.
Some of these guys are just masters at this, both with coaching and operational expectations. Sean can do this in his sleep at this point in his career.

Steele seemed to do fine in non conference games winning close ones, he just couldn’t win in the Big East due to the other coaches just knowing what he was going to do.

If we include both tourneys - I would say probably 8 - 10.
6, only because 7 isn't an option.
Amen to that!
You can say coaching only, but it was the coach who spotted and brought in Boum. What he’s done with last years guys is nothing short of amazing!

Honestly, I think Xavier would have been about the same with the Tin Man in nonconference play only because other teams haven't scouted Xavier as well as the Big East has.
Definitely the Seton Hall game, at least 1 UConn game, the St. John's road game and the Providence game would not have been wins last season.

To be fair, not his recruits, but game coaching stands.

Begs the question “What would Miami’s record be right now if Sean were the coach there instead of Travis?”

16-7 because Sean turns things around.
