Listened in on Coach Miller's show last night. He sounded positive in regard to our defense. Said team had a good practice yesterday and, in part, he blamed tired legs from playing three games in a week, for Saturday's poor defensive performance. I don't see how you fix a porous defense in one practice---my take is that we have some players who just aren't going to be good defensive players and a lack of depth. Still, that's my opinion and I'm going to trust Coach when he says he thinks we're going to play better this week.

And we must raise our game this week and next. We absolutely must. I'd be ecstatic if we win two of next three and I'll take one of those three. I acknowledge our record, the big wins we have had at home and our juggernaut offensive stats. I'm a huge believer in Miller but I'm uncertain as just how capable this team is. I also understand (or think I do) how difficult road wins are in this conference. But until we go into Storrs or Omaha or Milwaukee and beat good teams in a hostile environment-------until we do that, I'm unconvinced we can win the conference.

I really want to see how hard we play tomorrow and Saturday. Not just defensively but how we react when we get sucker punched before 10,000 blood thirsty, screaming fans. Are we tough enough to win important and challenging games on the road? I hope so.

Honestly I think it does too. I think another Quad 1 win does more for us than a Quad 3 loss hurts us. The committee seems to always favor more of who did you beat than who beat you.

10 of the top 25 NET teams have a Quad 3 or Quad 4 loss. On the other hand only 5 teams in the top 25 have 9 or more Quad 1 wins.

Q1 wins differentiate us more than the Q 3 loss.

Unfortunately I think you’re right with the situational thing. If they have a very good PG, we struggle mightily. Conference play we had Kolek, Richmond, and Spears (even Gibson). Noncon we had X Johnson and Roach. Fortunately we play Newton and UConn tomorrow. Saturday we may struggle.

I’m in the camp that I know the defense won’t be good- and will end up being the downfall in March. That could be first round or could be as far as final four. The defense has won X some games though. Most impressively holding the number 1 in the country (efficiency) offense to 28 points in the 2nd half (Marquette). And I think key stops at end of games against SH and Creighton. It gives a very small hope that the flashes we have seen can help turn things around overall….but we will never win because of the D. Can we get a few key stops when it matters most is the question.

As for Uconn, it’s a massive opportunity. I think X is better but being on the road is tough. I think X covers 7.5 and keeps it close

As to your other point, the state of Connecticut demands that UConn plays a certain number of games at the XL Center each year, but I don't know the rhyme or reason for how they're selected. They know what would happen if they had a weekend game in Hartford with a number of Xavier fans crashing the party.

Respectfully disagree. If less than 3 seconds, maybe even as many as 5, take the points Going full length and making a 3 is a low percentage operation. Just don’t foul in act of shooting!
