My son and I will be attending the Big East Tournament for the first time this year. What is the easiest/best airport to fly into in NYC to quickly get to MSG and surrounding hotels. I appreciate the advice. Thanks!

Can you really use NYC and quickly with regards to time?

I'd probably guess both the Newark airport and La Guardia will give you easy access to the subway into MSG. Hotels would certainly be cheaper on the New Jersey side, but as BJF points out, it also depends on what else you want to do outside of the Big East tournament.
Too bad the Midwestern Big East teams aren't connected by train like all the eastern Big East schools are. Not that I mind hopping into a car and making nearby roadies.

LaGuardia.
Not JFK.
Haven’t been through Newark in years.

For the holiday tournament last year we did Newark. About a $60 uber ride into the city. I think the train would have been about $20, but we were on a tight schedule and didn't want to risk any unnecessary delays.
Newark, the train from Newark lets you off less than a block from MSG.

I would recommend Newark as the train takes you into the city and arena in a timely fashion.
JFK is ok
LaGuardia is terrible (avoid at all cost).

Newark. They have a train directly from the Airport to Penn Station, right under MSG.
That assumes you are staying in a nearby hotel to MSG.
LaGuardia is the absolute worst and Kennedy isn’t much better.
If you don’t mind a long train ride in MacArthur on Long Island isn’t bad. You can take the Long Island Railroad train right into Penn Station. Need a cab to get you to the train station though. It’s a walk at Newark.

I just went to MSG back in December for a Knicks game, flew in and out of Laguardia and i must say it was really nice with the remodel they did. Was about a $50 Uber ride in to Times Square.

You got it Web.
$4 billion remodel. Lobbies, concourses, gates, even the roads around and to and from the place.
The place is gorgeous. Unrecognizable from where it was.
It’s so nice that you wonder if NYC couldn’t have found a few other things to fix around town.
No reason to avoid LGA because it was a dump. And it was.

You'll love it, it'll love you, MOR.
I can't see it working out any other way.
My place is in the financial district, so I usually fly CVG-EWR bc it’s so easy to take rail all the way to lower Manhattan, or to go right up to Penn Station if you are staying near MSG. EWR has always been easy and efficient for me. One hour, from EWR to World Trade.
LGA has always been fine for me, and the terminal updates are signifiant. Easy cab ride in.
JFK kinda sucks. But taking the A train into the city from JFK is a great American melting pot experience.

As a former New York resident, in terms of how easy it is to get in and out without swarms of people overwhelming you, I always found Westchester County to be the easiest airport. I think it's the best kept secret for flying to NYC. I was always happy to pay a bit more and take Metro North down to the city instead of fighting insane crowds at Laguardia, JFK or worse, Newark.

Totally agree. Having flown to all the metro airports except Newark, it was easiest. And flying into MacArthur really only makes sense if you are going to Suffolk County. I flew in there when I was working summers in East Hampton back in the '60's. The owner of the Sea Spray Inn where I waited tables to put myself through college was a distant relative with his own plane and pilot's license, and so my experience there was always in a (very) small private plane.

The problem is finding a flight into White Plains. There may be flights but with at least one to two stops and lengthy.
I 100% agree on the convenience of the port.
I randomly ran into and sat/talked with Pro Golfer Gary Player in that airport, then he invited me to sit next to him on our flight to Cleveland. He was a Mark McCormick client just like Arnold Palmer, and was flying in for a weekend with Mark and his family as well as checking on a couple of thoroughbreds that he owned in NE Ohio. This was back when Cleveland was a Continental hub and had non stops everywhere.
A very nice and gracious man.

Is the Knicks' Dolan related to the one that owns the Cleveland Guardians?

So, Charles Dolan is the Brother of Larry Dolan. Charles is the father of James who runs the Knicks. Larry is the father of Paul who runs the Guards. Charles made his money owning Cablevision in New York. Larry is a Lawyer. I *think* Larry used some of Charles money to buy the Indians 20 years ago, or at least used Cablevision stock as collateral.
Funny that fanbases in both cities think that the Dolans suck and that both James and Paul are idiot sons whose fathers bought them jobs & livelihoods.
