Feels very intentional around the timing
Not sure what they've done with other coaches in the same situation......meaning trying to be consistent in handing down suspensions for league games

Good to see that the fbi wasted all of the money that it did on all of this nonsense. Wasn’t it five years ago those idiots claimed that what they found was going to change the landscape of college basketball and schools/coaches were going down?
Since the only real trouble has been with Louisville who cooperated and announced self imposed penalties. Whoops

It def helped but Arizona appeared to ready to move on. No final fours and Sean was getting a little to chunky for someone who sweats as much as he does. That man should be 80lbs in that desert heat. Poor Book had to go to jail and Sean got a new job.

"So after five years of getting his named dragged through the mud by, essentially, every media member except for me - Sean Miller gets no punishment in the Arizona case.
Sad part is, I just looked at the facts of the case. It was that easy.
Lot of people owe that man an apology"

Ha!! Garvin???
They were accurate on the announcement, but they are Xavier people. I had been told on Sunday that there would be a decision announced this week, but, other than probably Christopher (?) no one knew exactly what the decision would be.
When I asked “my guy” he said that there were still politics in the NCAA and that they didn’t like to be shown up by a panel that the NCAA itself had disbanded. So the speculation on my sources part was that there would still be some minor punishment.
Greg having connections over there probably helped.

Current status of our X program is very high right now.
Likely ranked and on highlights day in and day out. Assistants Cohen, Miller, and Jackson probably can aim higher in the recruiting world for elite Euro player and the best transfer option in spring.
2024 recruits likely will show us X fans how much Sean Miller can attract extremely strong recruits possibly .
Over past 4 years and currently, X has fallen behind UConn, and maybe Creighton. Villanova is always elite but without Wright, Nova is a shell of what they were .
If X can stay ranked and win the BE regular season/tourney, watch out for multiple 5 start recruits hoping to play for coach Miller.

I'd be happy with just getting out first.
I don't follow recruiting much, so I am ignorant on this, but what specifically is it about Xavier that getting a 5 star has eluded them?
I don't say that thinking it is easy, but it seems some schools similar to X, certainly many schools in the BE have been able to get 5 stars. UC just got one too, right (not that they are a similar school)?
I have no doubt Miller will do well recruiting, but wonder if there is something holding X back from getting a 5 star that people know of that Miller wont be able to overcome?
xukeith
01-02-2023, 05:13 PM
Some "stars": want the best coach, the best TV exposure, and top facilities. X really has never had the "top 5%" coach so this addition is huge.
Let's say your a recruit and you rate at #35 in country, a top 3 pg, or sg. Do you want Dan Hurley, Coach Steele, Coach Wes Miller, or Sean Miller?
Assuming FS1 is still a strong attraction, X might be in some lofty recruits' households.

I feel like wojo got multiple 5 stars during his time at Marquette. Do they have a lot better facilities than X? Was it wojo being a Coach K disciple? Marquette having bee to final 4’s, even though way before wojo? Marquette just having a jump start having also been in the old BE? Something else?

The factors are really case by case. Some guys want to stay near home and just pick State U for no other reason. Some guys want the limelight and to wear one of the big time uniforms like UK, UNC, Duke, UCLA, Kansas or maybe one or two other "name brand" schools.
I dont know how many "5 Star" guys there are every year, but lets say around 35. Well, with 350 total D1 schools if it were EQUAL, then you'd only expect to get one every to years. But in reality, the big time schools mentioned above probably get 1/3 of the total. There just arent that many of them...
I think the one thing we really need to do is demonstrate that you can go to XU and you will be prepared for the NBA and get drafted.
For sure MILLER has proven that he can get guys into the NBA. We need to demonstrate this over the next 2-3 years, then we may start seeing the 5 stars.
Also, in my view, with the changing landscape, I'd almost prefer a roster of 4 star guys that stay 2-3 years than full annual turnover of 5 star freshman.

Would be very hard this year, but getting to the FF is big for recruiting.
Getting to ONE FF won’t make much of a dent (if any) in recruiting. Heck, Butler went to back to back championship games. How’d that do for them? There have been several other schools over the last 30-40 years that made a FF and faded away after that. Being a consistent top 25 team and consistently challenging for major conference championships, along with being a school that makes the sweet 16 and elite 8, is more important than being a onetime FF team.
But all of that is moot any more. All that is going to matter is what kind of NIL money can the 5 star expect to get from supporters of your school. Players are going to chase the money, secure in the knowledge that they can leave for another school (and more money possibly) the next year, or go pro if they feel that they are ready. Follow the money. I’ll guarantee that every top 50 player is going to get paid one way or another. I don’t see X having the supporters willing to get into serious bidding wars with other schools for a player. The best I think that they will do is to be used as leverage by top players in order to get more money from a different schools boosters. It’s the Wild West out there now and until there is some kind of structure put into effect it’s only going to get worse.

Various sites have 5 star rankings with different number ranked as such. Depending on the year, they may have up to high 20’s ranked as 5 or as low as 15. For example, 247 has 16 five star recruits for 2023. Ironically, 7 of those are committed to Duke or Kentucky.
Agree with mhettel, give me the 4 stars who may be with program 2-3 years.

I remember Henry Ellenson being a 5-star recruit at Marquette, but never really seemed to fit the Marquette system. The sum of the parts they had later on (Andrew Rousey, Markus Howard for example) was a lot higher.

Good point. Even if you really connect with the coach, it doesn't matter if the coach is not there the next year.
A 5* makes a team in a lesser conference much more successful (theoretically). Wins conference. Gets further in NCAA tourney. The coach gets offers from bigger schools.
Less likely to happen schools with a history of keeping coaches for a long time despite high level of success.
Need a good coach who is not going to jump.
Need to be in a major conference.
Need to have a history of good success.
#1 seemed to be a lock with Mack. Moreso with Miller.
#2 - check
We were solidifying the third.

I think sending players to the NBA was a good point also that someone brought up.
Miller obviously has done a lot of that but it would be great if Colby could get to and stick in the league and X would have 3 current NBA players in the league. I think that would go a long way.
